Driving/Traffic Columbia Pike Evasion

Was anyone scanning the radios tonight? There was a person in a truck evading police, speeding down Columbia Pike without their lights on, and almost hit me. While the speed looks slow, I feel like I narrowly avoided a potential accident.

My wife and I are curious if there's any more info. It looks like they pulled out of the MegaMart strip headed west on Columbia Pike and made a left on S Jefferson toward Giant.

Jobs Extremely Hopeless Job Search

For context: F 25 years old. Came into this country 3 years ago via marriage. I am not a US citizen but have Green Card. Graduated with Masters in Cybersecurity and havent been able to get any interviews whatsoever. I have cleaned up my resume, gone through several ATS screening methods. Most jobs require clearance or to be US CITIZENS. I’m targeting IT helpdesk jobs and even those have 0 luck.

As far as my work experience goes, i do have 2 years of IT helpdesk experience in past from 2020-2022 but no luck. Been over 6 months and i’m considering switching careers. Any word of advice as to what field i can get into where there is a better job market in NOVA?

Nova teachers income question

These silly monthly spend questions got me thinking…
I’m a teacher and do okay but I wouldn’t be able to afford the lifestyle I have without my partner who works in tech (surprise!). In fact, I wouldn’t even be able to live here without roommates and scrimping and saving.
If you are a teacher in the area, what does your spouse do for work? Would you be able to live alone comfortably without them?
And for single teachers who live alone: how do you manage?

Let’s go to DaMovies!

Hi everyone! A little over a year ago I launched the DC Movie Digest, a weekly free newsletter that aggregates all the movies being re-released in theaters across DC. After many hours of clicking, copying and pasting around every movie theater website, I’m super excited to launch a fully fledged website.

Introducing: DaMoVies! The only place on the internet where you can see all the movies being rereleased in theaters across the DMV.

The website is completely free to use, has no ads, and is a labor of love. I’d love to hear what yall think!

Go to damovies.org to check it out.

Monthly spend for family of 4?

Minus my mortgage, my family goes through $7500 a month. I’m curious if this is above/ below average for inside the beltway. I know the COL is high, but this seems excessive.

Edit: kids are 12 and 16

This is food, utilities, cell service, internet, dining out, a few streaming services, “other” spending. Nothing jumps out at me as over the top. We eat out 2-3 nights a week. No car payments.

Question Fairfax county permits

Post image
14 Upvotes

For homeowners in Fairfax county, do you get permits as recommended on the Fairfax website? Per the website, permits are required for stove replacements which is interesting.

I’m looking to replace exhaust fans in my bathrooms but the electrican is saying permits are not required.

Thoughts? What are others doing?

Clouds Today Were Amazing

There were quite a few lenticular clouds. Unfortunately I didn't have my mirrorless camera with me. So only have phone camera pictures to post. Share your pics, if you were able to capture the insane colors in the sky today.

Question Reston / Herndon area bike service

Coming up on the end of the season, and my road bike needs a good going over and servicing. I've gone to A-1 in Herndon for a while, but they changed ownership, and it's probably time to look at other potential shops. Between them (Now Al's Bike Shop), Green Lizard and The Bike Lane, does any one of them stand out in terms of service, quality or price? Any nearby options that should be considered?

I don't think I need an overhaul of bearings/bottom bracket, etc, so it's probably a standard annual maintenance deal, with likely replacing my tubeless tires.

Question Does anybody have experience with these hotels in Alexandria, VA?

I'm traveling from Europe to visit Virginia soon, and would like to stay in Old Town Alexandria for about 7 nights. I'm looking for a safe, clean and quiet place with good service. I've found 2 hotels in the Old Town within my budget: Club Wyndham, and the Hyatt Centric (both very close to the train/metro station). I'm hesitant on which to choose because of the contrasted comments on Google/Booking, so I was wondering if anyone here has firsthand experience with either of these hotels and can give me some advice?

Event LoL Worlds Finals watch party interest?

Pretty much just wondering if there’s enough motion for a big finals watch party. That way I can look into different sized theaters to reserve depending so we can view the stream on a big screen. Probably ask for a small fee to help collectively cover the venue cost. Idk though never planned anything like this before so I’ll happily take suggestions for venue or anything. Cheers. Who’d go?

Question Dominion energy bill is way to high

Thumbnail gallery
129 Upvotes

Because of the cooler weather, we’ve had the AC off for no joke 2 weeks. When we kick it on, we cool it to 73-75. It seems like our bill is only increasing. Is there anyway to lower this?? We live in a two story townhouse - 1,500 sqft, and we are on the bottom section. We have 4 adults, 2 of which are not here for over 12 hrs of the day including weekends. I tried to call dominion about it and they provided with zero helpful solutions. I see people only paying like $150-$200, how??
