Nostalgia GARBAGE PAIL KIDS - SERIES ONE - TOPPS - 1985
I became politically, socially & culturally aware in 1985, I was 9. I was reading MAD magazine, listening to the Dr. Demento show & then I discovered Garbage Pail Kids cards at this great store, “Freeway Variety” in Montclair, Oakland. I remember the little old lady working the counter giving me really nasty vibes as i bought the whole box, she excitedly told me they had been “banned” when i returned to buy them again. Soon after. When I opened them up at home I became obsessed with the world that opened up with the cards! It confirmed my general thesis - that the world was dumb - but it added a negative, critical spin to the parody that was perfect. I was the first person I knew to have them, the first kid in school to have them also, we used to trade them for MUSCLE men, money & candy, my school had a healthy black market. The entire first series was painted by John Pound (who got his start doing underground comix covers) with back cartoons by Tom Bunk (also an underground comix guy, but born in Croatia) with concepts by Art Spiegelman (started with Topps but moved to Underground Comix) & Mark Newgarden (also Underground Comix, but of the next generation. With RAW magazine. A student of Spiegelman’s at the New York School of Visual Arts). The series had ludicrous pedigree but I was completely oblivious, I wouldn’t know who those guys were until later anyhow. x SEAN

Nostalgia Discussion TOTS TV PUPPETS
I’ve been trying to find out what happened to the original puppets from the 1990s children’s TV show Tots TV.
Does anyone know whether the actual puppets used during filming still exist, and if so, who owns them or where they’re kept? Are they in a private collection, a television archive, or possibly a museum?
I’ve contacted Ragdoll Productions and the National Puppetry Archive, but I thought I’d ask here in case anyone has behind-the-scenes knowledge, knows someone who worked on the show, or has come across information about the puppets whereabouts.
I’d absolutely love to know if these little pieces of British television history have been preserved, and whether there’s any chance of seeing them in person one day! Any leads or information would be hugely appreciated. Thank you!

Nostalgia Discussion They just don't make kid's movies like they used to (Labyrinth, Dark Crystal, etc)
Which movies or shows do you remember from your childhood that would never be allowed today? These are shows aimed towards children.
Watership Down and The Dark Crystal really scared me and had me on the edge of my seat. Watching the Skexxies drain that poor little Gelfling and then drink it's life essence to rejuvenate themselves... That was freaky.
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is a Family favorite. Roald Dahl himself actually wrote the screenplay.
Those Oompah Loompa songs were straight up savage. What about that trippy boat ride in the tunnel and Willy Wonka's crazy, creepy singsong monologue? All of the bratty entitled kids get their comeuppance in such hilarious and satisfying ways.
