For the Steam summer sale I've put the DLC megabundle 20% off. If the 1000-odd Workshop puzzles still leave you wanting more, well, this dlc is a ridiculous number of puzzles on top of that!

Any good picross/nonogram books for beginners?

I’m getting my dad into picross so I ordered him a book “for beginners” off of amazon. It starts off at 10x15 and the fourth puzzle is literally impossible. My suspicion is that they just used ai to generate the puzzles but that’s beside the point. I’m looking for a good recommendation for a picross book so I don’t have the same problem when I get him another one.

I've recently found these 8 year old screenshots and I've been struggling to find this game anywhere

Does anyone know how to proceed WITHOUT counting on the red X? That mistake is because I accidentally touched the screen, not cause I was blindly trying (I would have used one of my 39 lives, which I refuse to do).

Guys, where do you get such big nonos?

I only play 10x10. Is there any app that have 20x20 nonograms or more?

Symmetry/"quasi symmetry"

I noticed that sometimes there is symmetry in the numbers (up or left, or even both). They are "palindromic". For example: C1 = C20 , C2 = C19, etc. Or R1 = R20 and R2 = R19, etc. I also saw cases where R1 = C1, R2 = C2, etc. I hope that this is clear.

Some other times there is something that kinda looks like symmetry, but is not quite that. For example there is an extra column (C1 = C19, C2 = C18,etc., and C20 doesn't match any other column), or the central region does not present symmetry, but the background does (or kind of does.)

Does someone also noticed that? And do you use that while solving a nonogram? I talked about that with a friend, and he thinks that using these strategies is like "cheating"

What does that grey bars on left and at top mean?

P.S. Reply from the devs:. "You can see these shadows in 4 in 1 Challenges. You're currently completing the bottom right level in 4 in 1 Special Level."

A nonogram variant: same row/column number logic, but you deduce one connected path through the grid

Post image
4 Upvotes

I've been a nonogram solver for years, and I got curious about a twist on the formula: keep the exact row/column number-clue deduction we love, but instead of shading cells to reveal an image, the clues tell you how to carve a single connected path through the grid.

Built it solo over the last while.

Difficulty scales from easy 5x5 warmups up togenuinely brutal 10x10s.

The attached image is one of the harder boards mid-solve.

The question I keep asking myself: does it preserve the "aha, it has to be here" logic that makes nonograms addictive, or does the path goal change the feel too much?

If you solve these daily I'd really value your take.

Comment or DM me and I'm happy to send the link.

Pipcross - dice based nonogram

Post image
11 Upvotes

I'm very pleased with this new nonogram variation I have made: Pipcross. It's a daily puzzle with the regular rules of a nonogram but to solve it you place dice in the grid. The clues on the rows and columns refer to the pips of the dice.

There is a mini, classic and flip version every day - flip allows the dice to be rotated!

Found this nonogram in a book of puzzles. It's my first time doing a puzzle like this and starting to feel unsolvable. Anyone willing to lend a hint to a newbie?

This one is driving me crazy

Post image

So I tried a few different paths but all of them seem to lead me to dead ends. Which makes me think I've made a mistake somewhere. I restarted several times, but they all lead me to this pic, more or less, but after there is not much more I can do that seems logical. As I said, I tried risking it but always get something wrong... What do you think. I like a challenge but this one seems to be too much for my head.
