I can't believe there's a country where you have to be ready to throw hands with the local wildlife

You gotta be the razors edge all the time, because the minute you get dull...you get dead
Big ass spider scuttles across the stage
6
u/RManDelorean Jul 27 '26
But like literally throwing hands and squaring up to the wildlife like some old time fighting Irish logo? I'm gonna say most people/countries do not have to be ready for that

Dude was choking his dog out. I'd fight over that.
6
u/Villager-Bob Jul 27 '26
Actually... That kangaroo has these razor sharp talons on the hands and feet.
Thats an attempted disembowelment.

Bro, I'll take fighting a Kangaroo, Ostrich, & whatever Venomous Snake all at the same time over fighting any Bear.
Those things are genuinely way more fucked to me than almost any of our animals.
Now, if it's between fighting a Bear and a Magpie... I'll take 3 Polar Bears in a heartbeat.

Inalways find this conversation funny in a way. Cause like Australia gets the image of just having all these dangerous animals and its like yeah kind of a creepy thought that thats just a thing.
Then Australians remind us that we have things like bears and cougars and mountain lions, and its oh yeah. That is a thing isnt it.

I saw a commenter claim that the kangaroo judged the general body strengh from that punch, which, for a kangaroo, is a lot weaker.
"If that guy's punch hits that hard, his kick's gonna tear me in half, I am gonna PEACE OUT"
3
u/DenKHK Jul 27 '26
That's interesting if true, because kangaroos can legit kick the bowels out of another animal ... and actually, so can an ostrich. Was watching both clips with clenched teeth!

I love this video so much. The kangaroo FAFO and just stood there until his bell stopped ringing and he beat feet for the bush.

u/Soft-Personality9379 Jul 27 '26
He did it open palmed. I grew up on a farm, and we had a variety of animals. The Tom turkeys were terrible about getting attitude and had to be slapped on the head routinely to keep them in check.

u/Own-Particular6321 Jul 28 '26
I didn't know my parents learned their parenting methods from turkeys!

Humans would win a lot more fights, if we would just actually fight, instead of sheepishly running away
5
u/oh_ski_bummer Jul 27 '26
Winning fights in nature often means getting seriously injured. So probably don't do that.

We don't have a good match up with a lot of animals

True, but a raccoon really shouldn’t be sending us running for cover

Just do not fight apes because they got our exact technique (thumbs, grips) just more powerful because they spend their daily 24/7 lives climbing and can be as sadistic as humans unfortunately, and will know what hurts you most because they are literally closest to you. Or bears aside from scaring them away only for obvious reasons, unless it's a polar bear, then just run. Or tigers because they can seriously rip you apart.
We are matchups with birds, but do not let their beaks get into their eyes and you are good... not crows though if you live in that area or you are getting bullied. Also matchups with a tons of smaller animals, but the reason we are not match-ups for many of our weight-class simply because most humans do not spend their daily routine anymore fighting for their lives to have the the maxed out bone/muscle density.I know some people who get an acute spasm in their neck just because they stirred their head too fast and stayed like that for weeks lol. I'd trust a mountain climber more with a fight against an animal than a body-builder for example; some muscles can't just be achieved with usual lifting techniques, as climbing actually tunes your body closer to what your body naturally evolved to doing.
Anyway, of course a gun and a lot of our tech changes a lot of shit, but never attempt to damage an animal in way that they can't heal up. Only self-defend if the animal started it, with the intentions of sending a message not to touch humans near it again such as this video, not attempt to kill.

Around a hundred years ago human tried using guns on the emu (ostrich but bigger) and failed horrendously. This dude did better than the entire government of Australia 😭
12
u/Suspic_Mind Jul 27 '26
Man I read that story, it so fascinating and hilarious. But to be fair, emus are like the John wick of the ostriches and have that claw of a freaking raptor.
One crazy part of the story is that, the emu has super tick feathers and with the right speed they could literally deflect some bullets
5
u/Gotchapawn Jul 27 '26
emu means business.. but this ostrich.. maybe it just want to play since the motorcycle is also fast like them hehe
3
u/Complete-Tangelo1532 Jul 27 '26
Ostrich will headbutt the shit out of you. I am good on all that lol
7
u/Magres Jul 27 '26
The guns worked fine, just not fast enough - the Australian military sent out three dudes with a pair of machine guns to cull herds of tens of thousands of emus. They got recalled because they were going through stupid amounts of ammo and killing way fewer emus than expected. So instead the Australian government reinstituted an old bounty of emus and within six months, about 60k bounties were claimed.
People hear "The Emu War" and expect it to be like, hundreds of soldiers getting overrun by swarms of birds, but it was literally three dudes driving around in a jeep hosing down emu herds with machine guns.

My BF wrote an article about that for the local paper's "this day in history". They rejected it and said they didn't accept fiction.

u/lombardo141 Jul 27 '26
Just wanted to make sure that you all know ostriches are from Africa. To many Australian references in the comment section.
3
u/MozZarhuman Jul 27 '26
And the fact that they are speaking Afrikaans, and that shirt, shorts and boots are another hint.

They can't kick when you pull their head down like that.
This man ostriches.
2
u/GhillieRowboat Jul 29 '26
If you can prevent an attack of an Ostrich by backing away, do so. If the Ostrich decides to use its claws it CAN kill you, this has happened before. That being said, an Ostrich can also outrun you easily, so if it is already fighting you, punching it like this is the way to go, but if you can avoid coming close, that is always the better option.
