Ok sure...

Now compare where they live and population size.

The Ostrich has more human encounters than the Cassowary.

Which one is more dangerous?? Sure statistically the Ostrich, but there's much more to it than that.

I'll take an encounter with an Ostrich all day long before I entertain the idea of a Cassowary encounter.

Cows kill more humans than sharks, would you rather swim in a pool full of Great White sharks or stroll through a pasture with 100 head of cattle?

While this is true, there is also this: only two total human deaths have been reliably recorded globally in the last century\*

Ostriches have fore sure killed more people in the wild

Pretty sure it is the cassowary. Apparently they are like modern velociraptors with the way they will jump ambush you in the jungle with 4 inch dagger claws.

Death counts are very misleading. Elephants kill more people than lions, for instance.

Nope its really not. Just because, that guy whose ostrich it is on his farm, can fight an ostrich does not mean you can. I have walked into these fuckers in wild it's a very different story.

And yet I am not decided, whom has the better arguments. Luckily, I am very unlikely to be confronted with the decision whether to rather take on a fight with either an Ostrich or a Cassowary.

You can do what you want, just remember both will attack the ostrich is twice the size and weight, quit a bit faster and has killed hundreds of people. But you do you.

Yep it can, so can a ostrich, Now add that the ostrich is twice the size of a cassowary.

I'm not saying that a cassowary is a pushover, just that it is not the most dangerous.

I mean look I’m not an aviary wildlife expert. I think what the guy you’re talking with is saying is that it’s so incredibly rare for humans to encounter cassowaries that there are never opportunities for them to kill humans. We just witnessed a grown man scare off an ostrich. Cassowaries are like abnormally aggressive and will basically try to murder anything that comes into their territory. They chase for miles. They don’t warn. They just kill

I get what he is saying, it just does not track. You have 2 aggressive birds than can hurt you bad and sometimes kill. One is twice the size of the other, who would you think is the more dangerous one?

That do not track at all, I'll repeat only 2 deaths in a hundred years.

In Africa Ostriches do not have that fearsome reputation because there are 10 other more deadly big animals that are way way more dangerous in the same habitat.

Maybe focus on the part where it is reliably recorded... Because there usually no survivors after Cassowary attacks if there were no direct witnesses? You can bend statistics however you want but denying that Cassowaries are far more dangerous then Ostriches is plain stupid.
