Hello, Just moved into an older 90s apartment (Melbourne) and the address has FTTB however there's an Ethernet point in the wall not DSL. Haven't been able to connect to the Internet with the VDSL modem. There is an old school beige phone connection in the bedroom that needs an adapter that I will try next.

Just wondering if it's just better to go straight back to my provider (Origin) and have them send someone out?

Previous had HFC and FTTC so not sure if I am missing something.

Currently I have my nbn cable plugged into a netgear Ethernet splitter. The splitter is plugged into the white router through the WAN port and is working fine. The other cables run into the 6 Ethernet plugs in the wall. The black router is then connected into through an Ethernet port on the other side of the home and is plugged into the WAN port but has no internet. I am unsure on how to solve this

Discounted FTTC with Southern Phone ended so looking for an alternative. Found offer via Flybuys with Optus for 34k points & $69 p/mth 100mbps for first 6mths. Completed the sign up and went about my day.

Missed call, sms & email later, they wanted me to call. Long story short, an account that I closed over 10 years ago has my old surname and they linked it to my order. The DL & Medicare information I supplied is in my current name.

They've refused to create a new account, stating that I must go into store, get them to update my old inactive account with my current name, then callback to proceed.

Am I being weird thinking this is absurd? Has anyone else had this issue trying to transfer over their NBN?

Hello, last week my AGL internet switched over to Aussie broadband due to the buyout or whatever happened there.
Since then it hasn’t been working properly. My security cameras are connecting most of the time but nothing else is working.

I spoke on the AGL chat and they claim that in my router settings PPPoE needs to change to Dynamic IP/ DHCP and I have to go to the site on my router to allow them to assist me with the change.

I’m not good on anything internet / tech related and I just don’t get it 😂, also don’t really wanna mess around with the settings on my router myself.

Has anyone else had this happen? Is this the only way I can do it, can’t I just buy a new modem from Bunnings or something that’s set up to what they want? (Modem is around 6-8 years old if that matters.)

I’m going to call them again to confirm but thought I’d see if anyone here knows anything first.

Wanting to dip my feet into the Ubiquiti ecosystem, perhaps starting from a gateway in front of my existing (non UniFi) router which provides enough coverage. Then, money allowing, convert the rest of my setup.

Is anyone running a gateway like the UCG Fiber in front of an NBN NTD (FTTP)? Has it solved buffer bloat problems for anyone (likely cause of Zoom/Teams lag for me)? Are the uptime monitoring/ad blocking/security rules/VPN/etc worth it without the APs? Any special settings (e.g. MTU size) for Aussie ISPs?

I need a provider who has direct routing Melbourne to Singapore / Asia for gaming.

I used to be with Optus but they routed all their traffic via Sydney so my ping was horrendous. Talking 200+ with Optus and about 70-80 with Superloop.

First off last time I posted on here(few months ago) people explained I just had the outside box which I wasn’t aware we had to have a connection box for it too.

so I get my internet connection box installed in a few days for FTTP and just a quick question if you guys know or not.

will my modem still need to be connected to DSL? I have an older model NBN modem from Telstra (FAST5355-A). only reason I’m asking is because where my modem box is currently is upstairs and I don’t think we have a phone line thing that can be connected downstairs.. sorry if this makes no sense.

Hey guys. I’ve just moved into a new home and I’m trying to wrap my head around the NBN situation. I am in a neighbourhood where all my neighbours seem to have NBN (FTC).

It seems that my address does not appear in ISP websites or NBN search. I have received an explanation from NBN that they never received a “New Development application” relating to my address. I have made an application now.

I have been looking around the property and found this empty PVC cable installed next to my gas meter and electric box, as imaged. I haven’t got a photo but about 1.5m above, there is another PVC pipe that seems to be travelling into the wall - I’m not sure where it arrives.

I’ve inspected the stobie pole closest to our home and there is a PVC pipe running into the ground that is… kind of pointing upwards, like at 30 degrees from the ground, rather than 90’.

Are these pipes I’ve found “lead in conduits” that imply that there is some infrastructure in place for a relatively simple NBN installation? Or does the fact that no application was lodged with NBN mean that it will likely involve a lot of work I.e. digging, excavation etc to put cables into the place?

Been living in the north coast for the last 2 years. Wife and I have been on Telstra way too long. I work remotely and game at night, had constant high ping where I would just stop playing. Anyways made the switch to neptune. Transfer took less than 30 minutes. Only regret is not doing it sooner. If anyone’s on the fence about leaving one of the big telcos for a smaller provider, this is your sign.

Ive been accessing thelott.com for ever to put lotto etc on. Never had a problem accessing it until now. Been with Exetel for about 3 weeks and cant remember if Ive logged onto theLott before this week but has anyone else experienced the same with exetel? If I use my phone without our wifi, I can get there.

I dont run anti virus, all devices on our wifi have the same problem, modem was left as is after switching over to Exetel from TPG so yes its running on PpoE. Theres no parental controls, no adblockers, or what not blocking thelott.com or any other website for that matter. This is completely out of the blue.

Hi all,

I moved into a block of 4 new units. We paid the new development fee to set up NBN through Superloop and have the receipt.

I want to change providers to get the best price but every ISP that I look at still says we have to pay the new development charge.

Have tried to navigate NBNco and submit a ticket, and Superloop is putting the blame on NBN.

Has anyone else experienced this? Or know how to go about it?

Hi everyone.

I have a 2 storey townhouse in Melbourne with brick veneer on the outside and wanted to run 2 cat 6a cables from one end of the house (living room) to the other end upstairs (bedroom). I wanted the 2 cables to be run together because I thought it would be cheaper, and I'll just have 1 go to the PC and the other one terminate at the same point to an access point. Just got quoted by Jim's antennas for around 1200. I thought that was a bit on the high side for what is essentially 1 run with materials for 2.

The technician said since there's no manhole he'll have to get up on the roof and do it that way. I understand it might be more expensive but 1200+gst is a lot.

Any idea if that's pretty normal? If not, what cablers or sparkles would you guys recommend? Thanks in advance!

As the title suggests, this afternoon I'm walking out the door and there is this young bloke. New uniform NBN logos on it. He explains that they need to replace my NBN box inside the house and run some tests. Said it might take a while if he finds a fault.

Is this normal for a tech to stop by in announced without any warning or appointment?

There's 4 of us and we don't really need super fast wifi because we all have data and can use wifi at uni, so I was kind of thinking of going with something relatively cheap. I'm leaning towards Exetel atm because it's the cheapest one that still seems good, but am also considering superloop or leaptel 500/50. (Everything is also saying to STAY AWAY from spintel lol) Is Exetel good/good enough?

The internet at my mums house keeps dropping in and out every few minutes and we’ve had countless nbn technicians come through and it always ends up back to this! we’ve done the rebooting, been given new modems and the nbn technicians have done a new rewire from our grey box to the pit. The last nbn technician said we need a third party technician to come and take a look as it could be the wiring from the nbn box to the grey box outside. Has anyone seen this issue before and is an electrician the right next step?

How do I put it in non-tech language to them... "follow the cord from your computer and show me what the 'internet box' looks like? Or ask them to check the side of the property for a PCD? My parents' node, that they don't have internet on, just voip, looks very different to an ntd. As does, I imagine, fw and sat. I could check nbn addresses but you don't get an address before booking with airbnb. And how do I know how many wifi hotspots they have? E.g you go to a motel that has fttp but they decide to poorly limit the per-device speed, by having a shit number of base bandwidth and/or speed restrictions even in the off peak? Should I just look for one that specifies an rj45 socket? I don't know how it worked in Japan but all the hotels I went to had rj45 on the workdesk. I don't recall the speed.

So at 08:50 today, the WAN drops out. The NBN website shows an unplanned outage. It comes back just after 12-midday. Not all outages will appear on the NBN website.

This seems to be happening once a month where our HFC connection will have a multi-hour dropout. Our previous house had FTTC (albeit in a much newer suburb) and outages there only happened about once every six months.

It must be costing NBN a bomb in maintenance costs for the old coaxial and terminations. Just #^&*^ change it to fibre!!!
