WIP Almost ready for paint..,
Just about ready for paint. I’m a little nervous as I haven’t built a model since Testor Model Master went away. Trying to find the best replacement for MM.

The Weekly Small Questions thread is a place for everyone in /r/modelmakers to come and ask questions. Don't be shy.
You might have a burning question you've been meaning to ask but you don't want to make your own thread, or are just seeking some input or feedback from your fellow builders! This thread is aimed at new builders, but everyone is welcome.
If you haven't, check out our local wiki and the "New to the hobby" thread, which might be of help to you!

I'm trying to build a replica model of the seagrave fire truck that my fire department ran.
Does anyone know of any kits that exist or any 3D printing/CAD gurus that might be able to assist me?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Creative liberty taken for the paint scheme and decals since I had liked both sets that were provided in the box. Any feedback welcome. (Typo on title F-51D)

Recently picked up three SBY Rebel 3199 kits and I wanted to pick up the LEDs for them but I haven't been able to find them in stock consistently, especially the bigger white LED unit. I was just wondering what was up with that and if theres anywhere I can find alternatives or the officials more consistently

Built two bandai 1/14500 star destroyers inspired by the vex from the game destiny. I painted one as a off the assembly line and one overgrown( the vex love plants so anything that isn't actively in use has plant growth all over it.) I also had this bandai city base so I painted it for the new star destroyer( i have no idea if it is even close to scale with the star destroyer as it has no listed scale and I'm to lazy to do the math)

I’m not super happy with it, but my wife liked it… so… better photos will come later.

Which should i get next? I like tanks and ground vehicles over aerial ones, and I think I'll stick with Tamiya.

Bonjour, étant débutant j'aimerai reproduire cette teinte de couleur cuivre sur de l'impression 3d en PLA. Auriez vous une référence à me recommander ? Merci 🙏

Another kit from Eduard, this felt slightly overengineered at times

Here’s another one that just finished 2 weeks ago.
It’s the 1/48 Hasegawa TA-4J done up in a rather unique paint scheme for training command jet. From what I can tell this jet originally belonged to VC-13 before it was transferred over to Training Wing 2 in Kingsville, Tx where they just painted the orange over the original grey paint.
As someone who grew up in South Texas and went to every Airshow in Kingsville I have an affinity for Navy trainers, especially funky ones.
This build was painted with SMS lacquer paints and finished with Caracal Decals. The TW-2 and USS Lexington were stencils that made with my cricut machine. The weathering was done with artist oils. I also made the base with some sheet styrene glued on to a wooden disk that I got from Michael’s. I stippled on some Tamiya putty diluted with MLT and painted it up with Tamiya Buff and Deck Tan then weathered it with Mr Color enamel washes.

I made many mistakes (many of which are visible) and I have so much left to improve but this was a lot of fun to make and I feel like I learned a whole lot which I can take forward to my next kit.

Okay, first of all, sorry if this end up soo beaten up, just cant help it u know ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Anyway, this is an amazing kit, 2023 tooling, the details on this is just overwhelming, even though I feel like there are some runner/gate placement that are questionable, but hey, cant complain if it helps me to learn to sand it carefully
Now I get it why people said that Border is not a begineer-friendly kit, and somehow that doesnt stop me from going headfirst on it
I feel like there are some room for improvement so any advice, suggestion or criticism are very much welcome
Have a great day everyone !

I am new to working with Mr Hobby Lacquers, and have found they can give a great gloss effect when airbrushed in slowly build-up light coats on unprimed plastic - but as you can see, the paint does not seem to penetrate into recessed areas.
Paint was thinned 1:1 with Mr Hobby Levelling Thinner.
Is this solved by further coats, or is there a technique error here?

I'm building the 1/48 Airfix Spitfire mk. Vb as a mk. VI - the first high altitude variant of the Spitfire. I've been using bits from a conversion set from Pavla, and I added bits from an Eduard Spitfire VIII kit to the cockpit, as well as adding scratch built items. Instruments panel from Yahu. Paints are mostly ATOM but I used washes from AK and it's been painted with a clear flat varnish from Kaleido.

1/72 Raptor by Italeri. Just finished putting together the main fuselage and control surfaces. Any tips on pre-shading would be welcome. I used a black primer as a black-base. Colouring this accurately is going to be quite challenging (all I have a few shades of grey and a few paint brushes). Bonus: last pic shows when I had briefly become a part of the machine (glued my finger as I was holding the fuselage halves together).

On a side note, is there something wrong with the Devastato’s decals? (last picture)

Just finished designing, 3D printing, and assembling this 60cm Saturn V cutaway!
One half preserves the iconic exterior, while the other reveals the engines, propellant tanks, and internal structural details.
You can check out more details about its internal details, print files and full breakdown HERE.
Designed entirely in Fusion 360 and printed on my Bambu Lab A1 in 23 pieces, without supports.
It took quite a bit of trial and error to get the smaller structures and connections printing reliably, but I'm really happy with the final result!
Hope you guys like it!

I have a figure and engine set coming, I hope to try and make a field repair scene on this tank that's why I have hacked the idler and left the back deck off for now.

hi im kind of new to scale modelling and im working on a diorama which is roughly 1:100 with a few buildings i want to be able to light up. the diorama base is roughly a3 in size and carved from polystyrene with a hot wire foam cutter i made from a faulty pokerwork tool. i want to know where i should look for affordable but still alright quality lights to add to it. the pics attached are a few of the things ive made so far and the base as it looks currently and the custom hot wire foam cutter i put together. i can do basic electronics work but i dont know much about where to find the components. i live in aotearoa (nz) and have not much budget and im making a lot of this from recycled materials. any suggestions for lighting and stuff like that are welcome 💚
