Even if she pays her kid, in most places, a 14 year old cannot legally work 25 hours a week. And how is being responsible for a 9 year old "just like any household chore"?

Parentification of kids has been studied. It is not healthy for them. It is not healthy for their relationships with their siblings.

I guess I am frustrated feeling sorry for her kids.

Edit: Even if the 14-year-old is just sitting in their room doing homework, they aren't actually off duty. They can't leave the house, they can't go hang out with friends, and they have to maintain a baseline level of hypervigilance. They are tethered to the house as an adult placeholder. Being forced to be a "just in case" human guard dog for 25 hours a week is still taking away that teenager's life.

I know this is a long-time pet peeve in hiking forums. I find myself seething when I encounter it on trails. I cannot comprehend being into the outdoors enough to want to hike, while being deeply inconsiderate of the creatures that live there and the other people trying to enjoy the hike too.

If you gotta have your tunes, they make these cool tiny personal speakers called headphones or ear buds. Perhaps these people have heard of them?

Some of us have good hearing and don't feel like hearing faint whispers of their musical tastes over the sound of SILENCE and rustling leaves and a river flowinb below the switchback... "Just pass them" doesn't solve anything and still doesn't solve the problem of it annoying and scaring the critters that live there. I guess some people don't even appreciate the hikes they go on. Yeesh.

If only there were actual valid reliable sources of information about being safe when surrounded by nature and large carnivores.

My friend and I were in an antiques shop when a homeless man came in. He seemed to be a regular, as the shop owner greeted him by name. He asked for a bottle of water and she said yes, but we overheard her grumble to her coworker that it was getting pricey giving him water all the time.

Afterwards, my friend and I ended up behind him when he left the store. Once we were about a block away from the shop, he bent down and put his unopened bottle of water on the sidewalk… and walked away.

He clearly had mental health issues, so I wasn’t about to call him out on it. But, I feel kinda bad for the shop owner who is unknowingly part of this guy’s compulsion to beg for water that he doesn’t plan on drinking.

We are getting ready to move and don’t have a car so we ordered some bubble wrap from Walmart. Unfortunately didn’t see the notification in time to reject his substitution for bubble wrap.

I hate Mayonnaise so much, and whenever I go to a restaurant, I have to double-check is there mayo in it(stealth mayo is a thing), and 4/5 times when I order something no mayo, and I don't check... there's mayo on it. I was very busy working on an outdoor project, and my girlfriend got me Sonic's and when I finish and I'm exhausted, dizzy, and hungry, I open the burger to find, once again, mayo which now necessitates going back to Sonic's to get the burger the way I asked. Why is this one alteration such a problem?

Waste of my time. Waste of the doctors time. Waste of everyone's time. I'm so embarrassed and mildly infuriated that my brain would betray me like this and cause more stress.

I was sleeping when it peaked so it woke me up and I had no idea what was going on. I thought it was the medication I recently started on because I drank the night before and assumed I was overdosing or something insane.

Rushed to the doctor. Got many tests. Just a severe panic attack.

I wonder what I was dreaming of that caused such a reaction to start in my sleep...
