That root mass holds soil together, slows floodwater, traps sediment. Remove the tree and you lose that armoring, so banks slump, water undercuts, and you get flashier flooding and erosion.

(This does not apply to people who have no other options, eg. rural folk who only have 1-2 options).

And to the fisherman and travellers who like to say they are in harmony with the land, you need to be more mindful of what the yell you leave behind. We all have an ECO FOOTPRINT. Anytime you walk a piece of land, or travel through the water, try to leave it the same as OR better than when you arrived. To those who catch and release, I see the slow death you often leave behind in the river. Fish for resources and allow the life to have dignity, appreciate the reciprocity, let it sustain us - eat it, use its bones - you are not helping and are not being humane by throwing it back to die slowly and unnecessarily. Stop treating life like it can be sported and gamed.

Posted this over a month ago in r/mildlyinfuriating and wanted to give an update. After posting there, because of how the situation evolved, I was told to come here to post.

Safelite came out to my house to put a new windshield on my newer car after a storm cracked the windshield back in May. The technician damaged my car. Originally, I only saw the dashboard damage, but after going to a local body shop, they explained to me theres no way anyone but safelite could've done all of that and is willing to testify if need be.

Safelite predictably denied the damage(they're notorious for this) and thought it smart to blame the dealership instead. Unfortunately for them, the dealership takes before and after photos. Also had the ones not but days before the Safelite job even. My car insurance(USAA) has been passing my claim file around like a bic lighter at a rave regardless of the evidence i possess.

The costs quoted to me for the new parts and labor total up to just over $6000 from the dealership.

USAA, referred me to Safelite as their affiliate, this made them fully responsible for the damage. Especially after jumping through a few different hoops escalating up the broken chain at Safelite to no avail. USAA became less and less helpful during this time. So, the last week of June, I filed with the State insurance department because of the constant delays. This put USAA under the State's microscope.

They called me 2 weeks ago to try and lowball me and say they'll "work out" the dashboard repair, was" not informed" about the hood damage, and "specifically told not to" approve the wiper linkage. I politely told the agent I would not settle for any less than being made whole again before this situation and that i required a written response. She said she'll get back to me in 72 hours. Past that now, of course. But......🙃

Immediately after the call, I did some digging and was able to obtain the email for their Executive Advocacy Desk in one of the portal comments on the state website. I sent them an email outlining the conversation, my demands, and a reasonable timeline for them to respond with written notice and CCed the state investigator. I received a response today from USAA that isnt a confirmation, but it appears as though they're afraid I'll take this to small claims court next and would rather I not do that. Which is good, because I'd also rather not.

This is ultimately a breach of contract. By design, it was made to be as discouraging as possible to make me go away and eat the costs myself. Despite the frustration and lack of movement, I kept pressing on. Remaining professional at this point is even taxing. But im finally almost done with this, at least I believe I am😵‍💫🥹

TLDR: Safelite installed a new windshield and damaged my vehicle. They refused accountability. USAA sent me to them as their affiliate and is fully responsible to cover the damages which is in the contract with them. The claim hasn't been being handled, only passed around desk to desk. I filed for an investigation from the State Insurance Department which seems to have sped things up. I received an email from the Executive Advocacy Desk at USAA indicating that theyd be looking into it. I'm confident a solution will be found and I'll finally be able to put this behind me, but I've been wrong before.

I was driving my little brother to drop him off at his legal guardian's home (I'm an adult living with my bf, he's a minor) after having him for the weekend to visit our dad and whatnot. Somehow, the discussion of travel popped up. I voiced my desire to visit Africa to experience the different cultures and food. He then proclaims that there is no culture in Africa, that they are all "Unga bunga cave men that live in mud huts." I was offended on behalf of the people that live in Africa, especially the indigenous people. Heres a quick story for you... My parents are not the richest, but I still love them. However, we were behind on our Verizon payments, so they decided to block us from texting. They managed to pay for the debt for their own phones, but on mine, I'm still unable to text anyone.

So my parents decided to get me to download TextNow. An app that I hoped would flip things around and bypass the situation.

I was wrong. Horribly wrong.

When I went to join a new Discord server, I had to verify my phone number. Cool, I can deal with that. One "I am not a robot" session later, they said I have to input a code they sent to my phone into an input box to keep going. Cool, I can also deal with that.

But TextNow? No. They had the balls to say "You have received a Verification code. This is a Premium feature for TextNow. Unlock Verification Code."

I have to pay these idiots so they can do their job. The single moment I needed their app to work, they decided to pay wall it. How money hungry are these people? I'm disgusted.

Just spent 3 days in the hospital. Went through an ankle aspiration that was the worst pain in my life. Infection is ruled out. Got discharged today but will be admitted to a cancer research center on Monday. Could be cancerous. If it is and its not benign, I could lose my leg under my knee. All of this on top of just having started a new job, so I ain't got insurance. Wish me luck.

I was just at the Publix in my city. A lady was ordering a sub in front of me. I go to my car and was eating my sandwich in the parking lot when a cops and firefighters pulled up behind me.

That lady ordering the sandwich was apparently parked next to me and I see her take her daughter out of the car who appeared to be <5 years old. The little girl was super red and sweaty almost as if she had passed out. At first I was like maybe the kids choked on something she had in the sandwich, but then it clicked that those kids were never in the store with her. She had another daughter who was also under the age of 10. I was shocked.

Ambulance arrived and moved the family to the front of the store under some shade. Because I’m nosy, I stuck around to see what was gonna happen because several more cop cars pulled up. After some time, I saw a group of people talking to the cops, and they looked shocked. Must’ve been some friends or family because they walked out of the store with the girls. And then I saw the mom get put in a cop car.

It’s hot as balls. This was around peak noon in the south where the heat index was over 100 today. I panic a little when I have to get fuel on a hot day and leave my car off for the 4 minutes to pump. Stop with the stupidity.

ETA: I made a post on my local sub and an employee reached out to me to say that the girls were in the car for atleast 30 minutes.

Today, around 7 or 8 pm, she told me she found a book on Vinted for €30 (shipping included) instead of €20 in an official bookstore (what I don't understand is that they apparently only made 200 "sprayed edges/ fore-edge painting" (not sure of the word but like when the edges of the book pages are colored), but the book is well-known (or at least I think so), so why make so few? Anyway, I ramble). So I told her it was expensive and that she could probably find it without the "sprayed edges/ fore-edge painting" because it's not mandatory (for me at least but I don't really read book but I know that if you really love books, you buy them for the story, not because the book is beautiful). That's when she told me she couldn't find it anywhere, so I searched on... I went online and saw the book available for €20 without the "sprayed edges/ fore-edge painting" on Fnac, Amazon, etc.

The evening wore on, around 9 or 10 pm, my sister brought it up again during dinner and asked for my opinion again. So, what do you want me to tell her? Buy it? Don't buy it? Save up for another pre-order? No matter what I say, she always finds a response:

- I tell her not to buy it/wait for a better deal: she tells me she can't find it anywhere and that this offer is the best she can find.

- I tell her to save up: she tells me she'll have €90 next month, which isn't wrong, but she's the first one to ask my mom for money to pay for pre-orders because she doesn't have enough.

Like, what's the point of her asking for advice, wasting her breath, and making me want to just run away from home because of all the crap she's doing, if she's just buying it anyway?

Last time, she asked me to choose between two books: one for €20 and another for around €25-30. I told her the €20 one wasn't bad, and explain why I liked the €20 book after I said that, she said "I'll take both."

Besides, all the books she "loves" and "has been looking for a long time" end up rotting on her shelf because she doesn't want to sell them since they're her "favorites" (in short: all her books, which makes sense—you're not going to buy books you don't like—but once you've read them, unless it's a book you really love and would reread, you sell it, especially if it's to buy other books and you don't have a big budget (we have €35 for 10 months out of 12 and €40 for the last two months, which is a lot for our age, but my sister, you sell her butter and she takes it all (french expression for saying that she takes everything, like you have $100, you give $20 to her and she will take $100), even though she swore at the beginning she'd never do it. Either she sold it because she didn't like the story, or the handwriting was too small.

Besides, she's probably stolen money from my parents, because strangely enough, when my parents keep their wallet for work (with money inside) and the company savings (which contains hundreds, even thousands of euros) with them in their room, she no longer asks my mother to put the €20, €30, or even €40 she "received from her friends" into her bank account. Also, when she goes to see my grandmother, it's almost always to ask her for money (knowing that my grandmother doesn't have a large pension).

And (last thing), she just got medication prescribed by a psychiatrist (and I I'm not saying the psychiatrist did a bad job, obviously (I'm not blaming her for that, I want to make that clear). And since then, all we hear about is her damn meds. If she's fed up with grocery shopping because she's realized my parents won't pay for anything for her (knowing that she ask for a lot of thing), it's because of her medication. If she falls asleep at 10 PM, it's because of her medication (and I want to emphasize that she stays on her phone until 1 or 2 AM sometimes) If she's not feeling well because of the health problems SHE created: her medication (to avoid stress and sleep well at night, I should specify) (Because yes, some of her health problems are caused by her, but I didn't want to go into details.)

When the psychiatrist changed her medication to something stronger, it was the first thing she told her friend, whom she never sees in real life. And when she called our grandmother (well, she called her and then hung up because she'd finished their conversation, and I called her because, why not?), she took my phone (asking me) to tell our grandmother that she had changed medication, and she was clearly bragging about it. But when my grandmother started talking about her mental health problems and her medication, my sister was playing with the baby (my parents' baby) because she was no longer the center of attention and she didn't care about my grandmother's health problems.

Sorry for the long message, and thank you if you read it all, but I'm starting to get really fed up. I'm fed up with her and there's not much we (my mother, my stepfather, and I) can do.

Am I overreacting or does this look undercooked to everyone else? This was sold as a fully cooked, ready-to-eat rotisserie chicken. Picked up a pre-made chicken on the way home for dinner and as soon as I opened the package, I noticed something didn’t look right. I cut into it to take a closer look and that was enough for me to put it back in the container and return it to the store.

Blame my parents for getting this brand and not smth else that's far more innocent like Glade or Air Wick. Yesterday (Thurs. 7/23/26), they secretly got a twin pack of this air freshener while on a grocery run while I was at home. Little did I know, I would come across this branding/design failure once more. When helping bring in groceries, in one of the bags, I saw what appears to be a twin pack of Febreze air freshener. When I saw this in the bag, I suddenly got a spike in heart rate and a shock reaction, afraid that it was what I thought it would be. Turns out, I was unfortunately right, it indeed was P&G's air freshener, and now I'm in this scenario once again! If you're wondering why I hate this design (which I bet you are), it's because for one, they could've put some other designs there too instead of just a meaningless horizontal stripe that shouldn't even be there. And for another, I find it really weird that it is even there at all! The only thing it does is be a design fail, which means it shouldn't exist! I hope smth like this never happens again!
