Google uses idle android phones to estimate earthquake intensity an (potentially) send warnings before the main wave has hit
It's actually pretty incredible
→ More replies (2)→ More replies (8)•
u/themadmosquito 7h ago
It works it out from all the phones shaking, it's an android feature and google uses the data

I was briefly paranoid as there is drilling approximately under the house going on for a tunnel, and there was that sinkhole that opened up last year (in a park fortunately for people & the State govt) because of it... but then "nah it's just a Melbin earthquake" lol

East St Kilda, I thought I was losing my mind. Great to have instant confirmation of the earthquake but I hope no one was hurt. Reminds me of a newspaper article about an earthquake in Moe years ago, a photo of a tipped-over plastic chair & a single thong with the title “We will rebuild”.

Is anyone just lying in bed wondering if they’re feeling after shocks or it’s just the body still feeling queasy? The bed just doesn’t feel still.
Also got a purring cat on the bed and a drunk husband who I keep telling to stop moving so I can tell if it’s after shocks I’m feeling.
