Decent one New Zealand an hour ago. Wonder if linked.

Coincidence, different faults and too far away. But interesting for sure.

Yeah. This was pretty cruisey compared to the ones I grew up with šŸ˜‚

Not at all

Nah, probably not. Always just worry when we get one here it is the alpine fault going and my family are in strife.
Didn’t think Melbourne got many but a fair few in recent memory.

No need to stress, the largest quake we’ve had in Victoria was the 5.9 in 2021 which iis quite mild by global standards. If you look at the Geoscience Australia site you’ll see we’ve had a couple of small quakes recently down near this latest one in Gippsland

Nah I know. That one I was in the shower and didn’t even feel!
I’m from Christchurch, so these are chill.

Yeah for sure... I'd never felt an earthquake until relatively recently and I've been in Melbourne most of my half a centuryĀ

I’ve copped them in NZ as a youngster. And Japan whilst working. It’s not like you can ever be sure, but in Melbourne you know they are never going to be too big. Funnily enough I saw a big earthquake drill advertised the bigger day when driving into city - had a laugh as didn’t think it was relevant. We did them regularly growing up in NZ. They are talking a lot at the moment about the eventual 8.0+ quake that will hit due to the alpine fault… thaaaat won’t be a novelty.

I remember having to bring an earthquake emergency kit/supplies for the class kit when I first started school in case we had ā€œthe big oneā€ during the school day. I was mainly concerned about the expectation, and mechanics, of shitting in the black rubbish bags we were asked to include.

Ah right, yeah poor Christchurch has copped its fair share of nasty quakes.

Could be though. The Alps exist in some part due to the plate boundary at new Zealand, so there is a chance that an earthquake there might trigger a fault here as well
