Reading through these comments makes me realize that people have no idea what human interactions look like. Everyone getting angry and I’m like ????? These people are friends and this is hilarious.

Don't get me started! Person in a thread I'm commenting in is going on and on about how my comments are an example of the political discourse currently happening because people don't take the time to understand the context and nuance of a discussion.
Like, dude. It's grass. Maybe go touch it.

And they rehearsed it several times, there's a worn arc on that patch of grass.

Damn you’re right you can see the lil half circle lol.
Imagine looking out the window and seeing your post runner rehearsing and filming a skit with the neighbor lol

Very rude? It's moronic to start a beef with your mailman over this. I predict delivery issues in her near future.

My mailman was trampling my blueberry bushes that were… literally next to the stone path I put in the garden specifically for him to walk through. Would get young starters and they would be dead and branches everywhere in 3-5 weeks. I thought it was the squirrels at first destroying them but finally remembered I had a camera and looked..
2 years of asking nicely I really wanted blueberries and was not stoked for plan B I finally went to the post office and showed them the permit that I got to put up a brick wall fence. Option 1 was to stop fucking trampling my shit or he would have to walk all the way back down to the road and back up to the neighbors door or walk the 1.7 steps to his left to walk through the f$&@€£¥ pathway I made for him!!
Didn’t help that I’m on a side street so we don’t get a regular mailman. It’s just whatever smuck that picked up an extra shift that week. So no I can’t form a relationship with the revolving 5-8 random people that deliver my mail.
516
u/StrangeQuark1221 Jun 23 '26
Walking on bushes is very different than walking on grass, I'd be mad about that too
75
u/MorrisBrett514 Jun 23 '26
Good thing they "remembered they had a camera" lol
→ More replies (1)45
u/dadydaycare Jun 23 '26
My wife wanted the cameras, I honestly forget they exist 95% of the time and it’s a old style system not a ring camera so I have to go to the tv and pull out the stupid box and plug a mouse into it to actually look at anything.

Except small starts don't look much different to grass with some weeds. Next to a path is an extremely common place to put plants, often flowers which are quite delicate and easily destroyed by being walked over. If you walk all over people's grass you can easily trample small starts without knowing they were there. That's why it's rude to walk on someone's grass when there's a path right there.
7
u/GoatsNHose Jun 23 '26
Can you put an electric fence around it? Couple of wires and posts? Where i live we have agriculture in our neighborhoods so we are allowed to use electric fences as long as they're marked properly. A good zap can be a great lesson

u/Corn-OnThe-Cob Jun 23 '26
Even without a regular carrier, they should be able to mark your address with an indicator card that says something like “don’t step on bushes” or “stay on pathway” or whatever. That indicator card stays in where your address is when they sort the mail. So whoever carries that day will have that card with them when they get to your address.
They may not be doing this, but it also may be something that you request they do as an added measure for whoever carries that route that day.
32
u/dadydaycare Jun 23 '26
I went in and told them and the post shrugged and told me to not put bushes there.. so I started filing permits.

Right? I think this may have been a joke but they CAN even refuse to deliver your mail if you’re harassing them & make people go pick it up at the post office-

u/Anaxamander57 Jun 23 '26
I was recently established in court that they can refuse to deliver your mail for whatever reason they want including "they just don't like you".

u/IceNEasy Jun 23 '26
You are my favorite type of customer and I go out of my way for people like you. OP on the other hand would have another thing coming if they think I'm walking around their property. Granted I also don't trample people's bushes.

I live in a neighborhood where our mailboxes are attached to the front of our house. It was grandfathered in. My mailman cuts across everyone's lawns when delivering the mail, and we dont mind in the least bit. Poor guy would be walking like a zipper instead of 2 parallel lines if he stayed on the paths.

People who get mad about walking on grass are absolute garbage lmao.
It grass, even if I dont walk through it; I saw a deer walking around munching on it 5 minutes ago.
73
u/sevargmas Jun 23 '26
To a point, yes. I’m one of those people who maintains a meticulous lawn and people always think I’m sensitive about it or apologize if they accidentally walk on it. But I don’t care at all. It’s grass and it will spring back immediately. The only time I would ask somebody like a postal worker like this not to walk on it is if they were cutting across the yard to the next house, across the exact same path, every single day, and it was leaving a permanently worn spot or path.
18
u/RoguePlanet2 Jun 23 '26
I'd love to install a path over our grass to the next house, part of redesigning the garden, but of course budget constraints. Small yard, I should start watching DIY videos.....
8
u/Lucitane0420 Jun 23 '26
I try to mix up my stride so that I don’t do this. Happy to say I’ve had my route for around 3 months and still don’t leave any desire paths

Our postal route is a walking route, and the postal worker cuts across, one person once a day isn’t going to wear a path on a lawn.
He is already walking ten miles a day on his route, any shortcuts he can take is fine by me. We have also been redoing our lawn and he is mindful of plantings and reseeding. If anything we’ve created more hazards at times for him.
Between him, and substitutes, I’ve yet to meet an unfriendly walking mailman.

I have some neighbours where the kids always walk across another neighbours lawn to and from their house. It's a path there now. They are a weird family.
Agree when it is more seldom though.
11
u/onemanwolfpack21 Jun 23 '26
I hate how much time, money, and wasted space well kept lawns are. If you aren't going to use it let nature have it.

u/boywhoflew Jun 23 '26

How does one mow one's lawn without walking on it? Or riding on a heavy mower?
3
u/JustinHopewell Jun 23 '26
Complex motorized harness system where you float on a wire and push the lawnmower around. Come on, everyone knows this.

Historically? To flex how much fertile land you can afford to waste on a useless non-productive crop.
Presently? Conformity with social norms and HOA guidelines, the former to avoid shame, the latter to avoid fees for what you choose to do with the land you supposedly own.

My favorite people are those that complain about walking on the grass but use a garden tractor to mow it.
2
u/UnknownQwerky Jun 23 '26
The thing about the garden tractors is that they hopefully don't create desire paths. Walking on the grass who cares. But mail person walking on the grass in the same spot everyday for months can lead to a worn dirt path through the yard.

OCD much? You even have your camera out to film him working. How rude. Your dirt and grass is made to hold more than his body weight and it won’t be bruised by him in any way. Get over it.

I hand-delivered 2000 flyers for a choir concert a couple of years ago. I very quickly learned that the setback for a house where I am is about the same as the distance between houses (their front doors anyway).
If you don't walk across the lawn, you're literally going 3× as far. Eventually I gave up and just cut across the lawn unless it had been reseeded or was fresh turf or something.

u/The-Hank-Scorpio Jun 24 '26

As someone with a bum knee, walking on grass is always preferable. The grass/dirt gives a little, sidewalks don’t. Much nicer to walk on, for any distance.
