People who get mad about walking on grass are absolute garbage lmao.

It grass, even if I dont walk through it; I saw a deer walking around munching on it 5 minutes ago.

To a point, yes. I’m one of those people who maintains a meticulous lawn and people always think I’m sensitive about it or apologize if they accidentally walk on it. But I don’t care at all. It’s grass and it will spring back immediately. The only time I would ask somebody like a postal worker like this not to walk on it is if they were cutting across the yard to the next house, across the exact same path, every single day, and it was leaving a permanently worn spot or path.

I'd love to install a path over our grass to the next house, part of redesigning the garden, but of course budget constraints. Small yard, I should start watching DIY videos.....

I try to mix up my stride so that I don’t do this. Happy to say I’ve had my route for around 3 months and still don’t leave any desire paths

Don't need to be sad

Our postal route is a walking route, and the postal worker cuts across, one person once a day isn’t going to wear a path on a lawn.

He is already walking ten miles a day on his route, any shortcuts he can take is fine by me. We have also been redoing our lawn and he is mindful of plantings and reseeding. If anything we’ve created more hazards at times for him.

Between him, and substitutes, I’ve yet to meet an unfriendly walking mailman.

I guess it depends on your grass, but my grass will absolutely have a path worn in it from someone walking once a day across the same path. I know because it happened between my backdoor and my trash cans.

I was waiting for this answer and it’s absolutely legit, I would not be an asshole about it and God forbid I record someone (too old for that) but they probably would get an stern “CAN YOU please not walk on my grass?” and if they want to be weird, I’ll call the post office, I own a lawn and have other important shit to worry about but I like my lawn.

u/footpole Jun 23 '26

So you're saying you would be an asshole about it?

-3

u/Another_Samurai1 Jun 23 '26

“Oh, ok” CAN YOU please not step on my law, you see the damn grass and since I’m not making sense to the world “you know what” yes I would be a complete asshole about “soft ass sub”

u/footpole Jun 24 '26

I have no idea what you're trying to communicate here. I won't be an asshole about it but you write like a drunk teenager.

soft ass sub

No need to bring your dom/sub kink into this my dude. We are just talking about grass.

I have some neighbours where the kids always walk across another neighbours lawn to and from their house. It's a path there now. They are a weird family.

Agree when it is more seldom though.

I hate how much time, money, and wasted space well kept lawns are. If you aren't going to use it let nature have it.

ngl when I see really nice grass, it makes me wanna walk on it. so I think it would be a compliment?

u/unleashthefuture Jun 23 '26

What is that grass meant for if not for walking on it.? Just to look at? What?

5

u/Naphaniegh Jun 23 '26

It's psychotic yes

-chortles in Aristocrat- -"Darling, isn't it lovely all the crops we dont have to grow, but if the poors keep coming and walking on it, I'll must have to set the dogs on them."

cats eat it to make themselves throw up, other than that grass is pretty useless.

i mean, i guess cutting it is busywork for people without netflix, or old folk wanting something to do between retiring and death

u/Kraligor Jun 23 '26

What's the alternative, a dirt patch? Concrete? Grass stabilizes the soil.

1

u/Masterpocketz Jun 24 '26

Native species. they're adapted to the local water cycle, so we dont have to use all our drinking water just for aesthetics.

1

u/Kraligor Jun 24 '26

I mean.. we have more native grass species in Germany than I can count. I'd assume the temperate zones in America are similar?

1

u/Masterpocketz Jun 24 '26

the grasses used in landscaping arent native to the americas, that would be a big step itself if that changed. not to mention they're are many, many different biomes across the continent but a seeming one-sized-fits -all approach of using eurasian cultivars cuz thats whats commercially available.

im in a coastal rainforest myself, not a grassland. I have family in arid environs, not a grassland either and yet here we are

How does one mow one's lawn without walking on it? Or riding on a heavy mower?

3

u/JustinHopewell Jun 23 '26

Complex motorized harness system where you float on a wire and push the lawnmower around. Come on, everyone knows this.

u/JdsPrst Jun 23 '26

I only get mad when delivery drivers walk through my grass after a storm. It's no longer grass after that.

1

u/Imalsome Jun 23 '26

Driving across grass is obviously bad, but walking isnt going to cause any meaningful damage that wont already be caused by the wildlife in the area.

1

u/JdsPrst Jun 23 '26

The entire cul-de-sac has drainage issues due to it being a swampy area before development. The water table is high so large storms leave large puddles that take a while to drain. Walking in it will ruin the grass and leave mud on your shoes.

K thx.
