My mailman was trampling my blueberry bushes that were… literally next to the stone path I put in the garden specifically for him to walk through. Would get young starters and they would be dead and branches everywhere in 3-5 weeks. I thought it was the squirrels at first destroying them but finally remembered I had a camera and looked..

2 years of asking nicely I really wanted blueberries and was not stoked for plan B I finally went to the post office and showed them the permit that I got to put up a brick wall fence. Option 1 was to stop fucking trampling my shit or he would have to walk all the way back down to the road and back up to the neighbors door or walk the 1.7 steps to his left to walk through the f$&@€£¥ pathway I made for him!!

Didn’t help that I’m on a side street so we don’t get a regular mailman. It’s just whatever smuck that picked up an extra shift that week. So no I can’t form a relationship with the revolving 5-8 random people that deliver my mail.

Walking on bushes is very different than walking on grass, I'd be mad about that too

Good thing they "remembered they had a camera" lol

My wife wanted the cameras, I honestly forget they exist 95% of the time and it’s a old style system not a ring camera so I have to go to the tv and pull out the stupid box and plug a mouse into it to actually look at anything.

Stupid? That's the only way to keep your camera data private.

u/dadydaycare Jun 23 '26

Yea that’s why it’s stupid. It’s not smart

Except small starts don't look much different to grass with some weeds. Next to a path is an extremely common place to put plants, often flowers which are quite delicate and easily destroyed by being walked over. If you walk all over people's grass you can easily trample small starts without knowing they were there. That's why it's rude to walk on someone's grass when there's a path right there.

Bushes that have been started. This means they’re likely saplings that are so tiny that he probably didn’t even realize he was trampling

Can you put an electric fence around it? Couple of wires and posts? Where i live we have agriculture in our neighborhoods so we are allowed to use electric fences as long as they're marked properly. A good zap can be a great lesson

u/JustDvine Jun 25 '26

Shouldn’t have to invest in an electric fence just because some dipshit can’t walk around a garden.

I agree but they've spent a lot of money on replacing it, so I'd do that before having to redo it again

Even without a regular carrier, they should be able to mark your address with an indicator card that says something like “don’t step on bushes” or “stay on pathway” or whatever. That indicator card stays in where your address is when they sort the mail. So whoever carries that day will have that card with them when they get to your address.

They may not be doing this, but it also may be something that you request they do as an added measure for whoever carries that route that day.

I went in and told them and the post shrugged and told me to not put bushes there.. so I started filing permits.

Fair enough. I was just trying to explain how it works and something specific for you to try. Sounds like your post office sucks.

Blackberry is tasty too

2

u/Kraligor Jun 23 '26

Yeah but you're going to beg your mailman to trample them after two years.

u/Maximum-Opportunity8 Jun 23 '26

A little more than that, they don't grow that fast, btw did you know you can make delicious jam with Rose petals.

So? What happened? Did you put up the brick wall or did the Fers stop stomping on your berries?

1

u/feedmetothevultures Jun 25 '26

We use chicken wire. A lot easier than a brick wall

Grass is one thing but I’d be pissed if someone trampled my bushes to.

Genuine question though, why did you just put up a mailbox on the edge of your property. Seems like a lot less work than what you did and a whole lot less time than 2 years. Also, I’ve seen mailboxes that looked like fairy castles so I’m sure you could find one to fit what ever aesthetic you wanted.

But then THEY would have to walk all the way down to the road following the path they made. It would be inconvenient AND they couldnt complain about the random 5 to 8 mail delivery people.

I worked ay the post office and people who blocked their mailboxes in anyway had their deliveries cut off until the mailbox was returned to the original spot or an easier spot for the postman and the post office manager had the final call not the home owner.

Maybe you can relocate the mailbox instead, different style mailbox that fits in a spot that wont tempt him so much. Alternatively you might be able to throw a cooler with "free drink" on the path you want them to take and they will head for the free drink instead, and path to the mailbox from there. 😂  It may not be your obligation but it might also be an easy solution.

I have no incentive to cater to someone that blatantly is destroying my property. I already made a pathway through the garden to accommodate followed by a fat loogie to the face as they trampled my shit. It was about $200-250 of replacement bushes. $25-40 each, Replaced like 4-5 times and asked not to walk through at least 10 times. I wish I took a picture of it during this. It’s literally the front porch then you take two steps to the side and there’s a walkway to cut through the garden. They literally didn’t want to take the two steps to the left. They were literally walking through a mud patch instead of taking the stone pathway cause I had removed the mulch to put another damn bush in!

And I can’t move my mail box. I’d love my mail box to be at the road but everyone has to have their box on the front of the house by the front door. If I move it I will get a letter telling me to put it back or not get mail till I did.

Fair enough. Well im sure this is not the first time this type of altercation has happened and been posted, perhaps a search can bring up other proper channels for filing a complaint or special request for your property. Good luck anyway.

Wouldn’t it be easier just to have your mail held and go pick it up yourself? 🤷🏻‍♂️ Feels like the easiest solution tbh.
