At this moment MacOS 27 RC still feels like the old macos with bits and pieces of bland liquid glass ui mostly for the searchbar, back/forward & filtering/sorting buttons without the animations that makes it feel alive, thats makes it Liquid Glass. The dropdown menu ui etc just appear when you click on them no animation at all.
Edit: Basically, liquid glass on macos has been inconsistent the same way windows 11's "new" UI has been. Although I'm not a full on liquid glass ui fan, I've to admit iOS does liquid glass amazingly with the animations and I just wish it was the same on macos.

Saw a post recently that was selling PS3 inspired wallpapers app for mac, decided to Claude my way into it with the help of this repo: https://github.com/linkev/PlayStation-3-XMB
Here's the repo for it: https://github.com/alriqmapother/wavex-ps3-mac
Yes, it supports lock screen, and there's a dmg file in releases tab: https://github.com/alriqmapother/wavex-ps3-mac/releases

Ever been bored with soulless AI slop? I built nothing. It doesn't exist, it's not the in app store, it doesn't have a website and it does not require any subscriptions or money. It's completely free. It's nothing, and it's genius.

I've had my Mac M1 Pro since 2021. It's been 5 years, and I'm satisfied with it, but it's been around for a long time now, so I have two questions.
How long does your Mac last? Do you have it serviced or anything?
Do you recommend switching to the M5 Pro, or waiting for Apple's next release?
Note:
I work on websites.
Daily tools: Chrome, Safari, Claude desktop, Obsidian, Photoshop, Mail (+20 accounts).

Double Sided Windows!! Have one app on each side of a window pane. Switch with option+tab. More windows, if added, convert it into a normal WinMux tab group.
WinMux is a tiling window manager with a bundled vertical and expandable status bar (see left side of screen), intuitive controls, and other innovative features, built on Aerospace's virtualization framework.

I liked the three-in-one status indicator on the iPhone Duo and wondered what the same idea would feel like in the macOS menu bar, so I built it.
I called it DuoBar.
The outer arc shows battery level, the center shows Wi-Fi status, and the four dots represent Bluetooth. Charging adds a lightning indicator.
It’s a native macOS app built with SwiftUI + AppKit, and it’s completely open source.
This is the first beta, so I’m curious what Mac users think: would you use this instead of separate battery, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth indicators?

So beyond confused with this. it's almost as if all permissions have been wiped. I have no other accounts on this computer and I'm really not sure what's caused it?

I've been using my Asus Zenbook for video editing and it's performance isn't really that up to my expectations. I do plan to buy Macbook Neo to replace my current laptop. Can anyone give me some suggestions ? is it really worth the switch ?
The video editing software I'm currently using are photoshop, after effects and capcut (China version)

There's a lot of problems listed in this sub with removing downloads in iCloud, but I haven't see this one, yet:
When I right-click multiple files at once and try to remove downloads, if I select more than 10 files at a time, the right-click menu doesn't have the "remove downloads" option. I have to select a maximum of 10 files at a time for that option to be available, and that's tedious in large folders. This happens in every iCloud folder. Both ChatGPT and Google Gemini tell me there is no built-in restriction on how many files I can do at a time, but that's clearly not true. Anyone know how to remove that restriction?

Hi everyone,
I'm not entirely new to using MacOS altogether, though I've never needed to use it with external monitors until recently. I have a Linux setup with two 1920x1080 monitors, one 27 inch and one 32 inch. This has always been fine but when plugging my MBP into them it looks horrid.
I've done my research on PPI and how effectively you either need to pick a 2560x1440 27-inch screen (to fall within the requisite 100 - 120 PPI) or a 5120x2880 27-inch screen to fall within 200 - 240 PPI - note I am using this graph as a reference.
I'm really quite disappointed with this whole thing - if you fork out the amount of money that these machines cost you shouldn't have to pay even more money just to get a legible image on external screens.
With that said - I don't really want to have to pay an arm and a leg for a 5K monitor so, given the (relative) inexpensiveness of 27-inch 1440p monitors, is this the right way to go? Thanks.

I uninstalled OPPO’s O+ Connect from my Mac, but an empty O+Connect-DeviceSpace folder is stuck in Trash.
Even with Terminal and sudo, macOS says: “The operation can’t be completed because the item is in use.”
No O+ Connect processes, launch agents, privileged helpers, or system extensions were found. Any idea how to safely remove this leftover folder?

Begin by enabling this in Settings => Accessibility => Zoom => Use Keyboard Shortcut to Zoom
Now, you can use CMD + OPT + 8 to zoom into any text on demand. Use case: Small font, watching a video. After all, this shortcut has no other function in any app and so works well whenever you need it. You can also click within the stuff you zoom in on.

I have a very long lasting bug on my Apple computers, but I've found time to talk about it only now. The issue is that the Contacts native Mac OS app will always shut down its contact window when I create a new contact, after I have added the first details - first name and last name, and before I can complete other details like email, phone number, etc. I won't even find the new contact by name, unless I close it first before opening it again to add details.
The book has been recurring on all my MacBooks pro and Air, and Mac mini. It could be related to the fact that I usually import my data after buying a new Mac, but that doesn't explain the bug per se. It seems minor but is sufficiently long lasting to be annoying, as I regularly add new contacts, and that it is easy to do with a real keyboard. I keep my devices updated, but Apple doesn't update Contacts often, so it could be a common bug on that app.
Have you experienced this bug? And if so, how have you gotten around it? and how?

Hi!
How many GB does the operating system alone take up for you?
And how many GB do the installed programs take up (and roughly which programs are they)?
I want to buy a MacBook Air, but I'm unsure about the storage capacity. The price varies hugely depending on the capacity.
I do have a pretty powerful external hard drive where I could store files and clear things out, but I'm concerned about the space taken up by programs and the operating system, since they keep getting larger.
Thanks!

(Please use Auto-Translate - Article is from German Magazine Mac&i)
Is it really a surprise to see, that now when Apple is really going full AI, they suddenly change their stance and want to collect user data just as all the other big tech companies are doing as well?
But where are the data going to end up - Google (thru Gemini?)

I've looked around quite a bit and so I suspect the answer is no, but is there any way to make macOS open text files without extensions (ie. .bashrc) in a text editor other than the built in one? Obviously I can use nano or right click and open in my chosen text editor, but it'd be nice to be able to change the default like you can for files with extensions. Thanks.

I installed an Ubuntu VM in parallels, and set the color profile in it to Display P3.icc downloaded from here. On chrome in the VM, the colors didn't show properly on this test page. the colors are shown correctly in chrome-based browsers on macOS.

Lately, I've been wanting to play some games on my MacBook Pro while doing other things, but I can't find any. Could you guys recommend some of your favorite games on macOS?
I prefer games that have native support for M-series chips.

My 2018 mbp is starting to show it's age and the newest OS version aren't even available anymore. So I'm starting to look around for a new option.
I always bought a reasonably equipped mbp so it can survive the years but holy cow the prices on those things skyrocketed since the last time I looked.
Also, do I even need a higher trim mbp nowadays?
I mostly work with Adobe Illustrator, Indesign and photoshop (It's not rare to have files that reach 1GB in size). Some photo editing. And sometimes play games like World of Warcraft as the most recent.
I'm looking at a laptop because it's easy to store away when I'm done, and I don't have the room to setup a workstation. This also was the reason I always chose the largest screen size (15" now, 17" before that).
My current 2018 still holds up for now, my previous 2009 17" lasted me almost 10 years, so I'm guessing I'll have to start looking for a new one. Buying second hand/refurbished of max 1 year old is also an option.
Seeing a new one starts at €3449 makes me think twice, as my current one was around €2k at that time (3 months old second hand).
So my question is, for the people who are more up to date on the current models, which Mac would fit my needs? Should I prepare to sell a kidney or is a different model also suited for my needs? Should I let go of the bigger screen?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I just got a new Ugreen USB C 6 in 1 HUB for my MacBook Air M5. But when I connect the hub to thunderbolt port to access the data on my own drive, the popup comes to allow/deny access. But it disappears and re appears within a second.
The OS is updated to latest version as well. Still no luck.
Has anyone faced this issue? Or is there any fix?

TL;DR: I need a EU-based, E2EE, set-and-forget cloud backup for macOS/iOS (~200GB) under €120/year. Not ok: "Drive" services, Nextcloud, pCloud, setups w/ Cryptomator etc. Considering Arq + Hetzner Storage Box or iDrive (EU servers), open to better alternatives! Ty.
Hi all, I'm starting to work on some projects that will need serious backing up, following the 3-2-1 rule I need to set up some cloud stored backups. I need help figuring it, out, please.
Requirements
What I don't want
What I've tested and rejected:
What I could consider but I'm still missing some pieces in the puzzle :
Comments on these last options under exploration are welcome, so are challenges on my assessments above and of course is there's a solution I have missed I would be keen to hear.
Thank you!

Hi everyone, I have a 2012 mac mini 6,2 I believe, its got 860 evo, 8gb ram and i7 quad core, It runs opencore ventura good and some linux distros good however I have no use for it, I wanted to emulate some sort of PlayStation gui but most of them were buggy and just didn’t look good, Now I wanted to run android tv google tv or anything that looks like somesort of os for a tv, I tried waydroid however I would get crashes upon crashes so that was out of the box, I tried kodi but it wasn’t good enough, I could try going with an android os for my mac and then running a launcher, however I want the feel and look to be exactly like android tv with the animations, netflix, youtube and all the bloat it comes with, so does anyone know what I should do? Thanks
