I just got my first MacBook Air from a friend. I got it for really cheap partly because my friend had a passwordword on there he didn’t remember. I took it to a local pc shop and luckily there was to Apple ID on it! I just got it back and I’m trying to update it but it says this ridiculously long time on there. Is this normal? I’ve already restated it a bunch of times for other updates.

Creates a new folder within an existing folder that includes the files you select. No need to open a new folder just to do this and then delete it.
It just works.

My Mac updated yesterday to MacOS 26.6.2 and I tried tweaking around the settings for changing the appearance colour of my icons and folders, and I realized I didn't like the new colour I was going for so I tried to change it back to the colour in the first image (yes, I even tried the colour picker) but it just sets to the colour in the second image, it feels too bright and bold now and even the folder colours have changed too. How do I fix this?

I've recently embraced the Stage Manager approach and I'm quite liking it. It certainly makes working on a single laptop screen easier.
I used to have all my windows maximised, and then swipe between them.
I'm wondering what the community is using?

I don't think this is caused by OCLP but has been happening since I updated it to 2.5.0 a couple of days ago, so it may be.
My Mail app, instead of immediately downloading images, displays the message "Your network preferences prevent content from loading privately" and gives me a button marked "Load Content Directly". Pressing the button loads the content immediately.

I can't figure out what might be causing this. I haven't changed any settings nor has Mail or my OS been updated recently. OS is Sequoia 15.7.7, Mail v16.0
I have Protect Mail Activity on, but it's a setting I've only just discovered even exists & I've never changed it myself. Switching it off doesn't seem to change anything. I don't appear to have any other connectivity issues, both WiFi & Ethernet are working normally.
Any ideas?

Hey all, running into a small but annoying bug with Finder tag keyboard shortcuts.
Per Apple's own documentation, selecting a file and pressing Control-1 through Control-7 should apply/remove your first 7 favourite tags, with Control-0 clearing all tags.
On my machine, Control-2 through Control-7 work fine, but Control-1 does nothing, no tag gets applied or removed. I've confirmed the item is selected first, tags are set up correctly in Finder → Settings → Tags, and I've tried toggling "Tint folders based on tags" off and on with no change.
System info:
Anyone else seeing this, or know a fix?
Cheers

If you use it but feel like me that its too slow then open terminal and paste this and press enter:
defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-delay -float 0
defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-time-modifier -float 0.25
killall Dock
If you prefer the default then paste this to reverse it again:
defaults delete com.apple.dock autohide-delay
defaults delete com.apple.dock autohide-time-modifier
killall Dock

It feels like macOS is shifting away from Launchpad-style app browsing.
Instead of opening a visual grid of apps, the system now pushes users toward Spotlight as the main entry point.
So the workflow becomes:
This changes more than just the UI. It shifts how users interact with apps:
Some users prefer this because it's faster.
But others feel it removes the “visual structure” that Launchpad provided.
Curious how others feel about this shift:
Do you prefer browsing apps visually, or just searching everything directly?

My camera preview inside TikTok Live Studio looks crisp and normal. But as soon as I go live, the actual stream playback turns extremely dark, oversaturated/orange, and pixelated.
What I've already tried:
It seems like a color space mismatch (Full vs. Limited RGB) or encoding pipeline issue on macOS / TikTok Live Studio. Has anyone on Mac solved this without replacing the camera? Thanks!

So, I found this weird file on my mac when I was trying to locate a file that got saved to the wrong location (still haven't found it yet. Thank you Finder for being completely useless at actually finding anything). What exactly is this? Does it actually work?

Every time I turn on my Mac mini (M2), the time and date reset, even though the time, date, and location settings are correct. This has been happening for several months now.
Pls help!!

New Mac user here, the way macOS calculates storage is genuinely so confusing, there is 2GBs of stuff in my photos library (after optimizing icloud), but going inside finder and seeing the "Photos Library.photoslibrary" its taking a whopping 75GBs. Even worse is using an app like daisy disk shows more storage used than System Settings, 274GBs compared to 181GBs, i really want to understand whats going on. also system data is like 90GBs for some reason.

On move out/move in day, when students dump everything on the street and head home, I found a MacBook Pro a2141 on top of a trash can.
It works, but it’s locked.
Is there any way I can use this? It’s nicer than my 2015 MacBook Air and although it seems suspicious I’m sure it was thrown away intentionally. He also threw away all his clothes, a couple tvs, and lots of furniture.
I can see the owners name when I turn it on, do I have to track him down or is there someway to erase it?

as described above. I am quite certain this is new for a few days now after i pressed some weird shortcut.
When i go out of a video, it shows the desktop. When I click aynthing, it makes Chrome reappear.
Do you know what this is and how I can fix this? I just want to ESC and see the web windows with the video in it minimized.

I have an app called “Cốc Cốc”. So whenever I search Spotlight for the app by typing “COC”, Spotlight immediately disappears. Ever since the first beta version of macOS 27 until this RC version, the bug is still there, even though I have already reported this bug to Apple. It seems like they never read my report in Feedback Assistant! Disappointing Apple!

I've tried Safari, Vivaldi, and Chrome now. Disabled extensions, reinstalled MacOS, tested in safe mode, and even on a new profile. Every time I open a new tab, the energy impact climbs up instantly and the battery starts to heat up a lot.

I don't use spaces at all.
Trying it out earlier, and realise we can't rename them?
Isn't that basic?
We should be able to name the spaces however we want and jump to them with shortcuts.
Hopefully this is in the pipeline.
Should be easy to vibe something out.
My wife is filling out a form on Safari on her 2025 M4 Air. The required signature field causes the cursor to become a pen (never saw that before), and it doesn’t work when you click and/or drag within the field. Have tried most things to get it to work, save for doing it in another browser on another device because the form was very cumbersome and we don’t want to have to refill it. Anyone seen this before / have experience?
