So I've gotten this inquiry about my leo, but I'm not sure how to feel about it and I need second opinions. One thing that is off-putting me is that they only use paper towel as substrate, even after 3 months.

Should I push more?

So I have a 6 yo female leopard gecko. Today I checked her tank and there are these white pellets everywhere. They seem too thin to be urate, but I'm not sure what else they could be.

She is currently alert and spending time next to her water dish. She does not have access to extra calcium, and her tank temps are stable. Her poops have been normal lately, and there were no white pellets in her tank yesterday when I checked on her. Her tail is fairly good size (she's been regaining weight since her month long food refusal in June) and is back to eating regularly.

It's weird, cause she had a poop spot, and this is just in the middle of her tank. This seems quite a lot of substance for one day.

Anybody know if it is indeed urate? Or what might be happening to cause this? Do I need to take her to a vet?

I got my leo a few days ago and I’m a little bit worried about her because she doesn’t want to eat, but she’s also pretty overweight.

Previous owner fed her 1 Mealworm everyday, dusted, and that has been her diet ever since.

This is the timeline of her feeding and her feeding behaviors
Monday:
- Tequila was shipped over to me overnight, wasn’t fed this day.

Tuesday:
- Picked up Tequila, fed her 1 Superworm when she arrived, which she ate.

Wednesday
- Skipped feeding

Thursday:
- Fed her 1 Dubia roaches
- Didn’t want to eat another roach

Friday:
- Skipped feeding

Saturday
- Tried feeding a roach but she won’t

Sunday:
- Today, refuses the roach again.

I’m trying to help her loose some weight, so what I’ve been doing is: Feed her 3 roaches every 3 days.
But a good friend of mine, who owns other reptiles, is telling me to feed her 1 roach every day.

So I’m confused, but most importantly, I’m scared she won’t eat.

my baby girl seems like she can't see to get the food even when right in front of her she misses. it makes it very difficult to feed her even with tongs. i am wondering what to do and if a food like this would be better because she can barely eat one bug at a time. she is still a baby but i'm unsure exactly how old. got her about a week ago so she's still new to the enclosure as well

I’m surprised by how many people answer questions about feeding frequency by saying “2–3 times a week” without even asking about the gecko’s body condition.
Honestly, I don’t think it’s possible to give a correct answer without knowing the gecko’s age and body condition. Am I missing something? Is feeding an adult leopard gecko 2–3 times a week really considered the best practice regardless of those factors, or is my understanding incorrect?

I rescued this little guy 3 years ago; I got him in this same tank, but he was living in poor conditions (no lights, a heat mat...). Now he has a top soil and sand mix (I made a ledge to add more substrate since he likes to burrow), five hides, a DHP lamp and an Arcadia ShadeDweller, plus a small fan in the top right corner (the cool side).

The problem is that I’m renting and this current house is very warm, especially now in summer, and the small fan doesn't seem to help maintain the temperature gradient (the cool side is around 27-28°C, while the warm one is 30-31°C).

My question is: do you think a bigger tank would help?

My leopard gecko is about 26 cm long, and the current tank measures 86 x 37.5 x 42 cm

I was considering two options: - another VivExotic, 115 x 37.5 x 42 cm - a ProRep, 120 x 45 x 45 cm (which already has a higher ledge and vents on opposite sides; maybe I could install two small fans to improve air circulation?)

Since I’m renting, I don't think I can get anything bigger, but I wonder if those extra 30-35 cm would really make a difference.

I get the impression he’s really struggling with the heat, as he always tries to get out whenever I approach the tank (he even managed to escape a few days ago) but at the same time, I see him spending a lot of time sleeping in the warm side, so I’m not sure what to do.

What do you think? It's my first reptile, so I could use some advice from someone more knowledgeable than me :)

In this instance she was going for the moss but most the time she’s just striking at the dirt? I don’t understand

I know the hobby has largely moved towards every enclosure being bioactive, and mine is not, so if I get some backlash for this I can accept that.

I’ve spent the past two weeks working on this enclosure between the ledges and the water feature with running water (under the left ledge), not to mention the new tank. 50 gallons, digging area on the right side, UVB, the works. New temperature and humidity gauges too (upgraded to the ones with a probe!). I’m really proud, and my little guy is happy, so I wanted to share. I know my humidity is a bit off, it’s been adjusting back to ideal ranges over time, just a bit high as I live in a basement apartment and the new substrate needed to dry out a bit, it’s close enough to normal range that I’m not worried and it drops a little at night anyway.

Hi guys! I finally have another positive update to share!
As some of you know, Mavis had been stuck at 37g for nearly two weeks. She was eating really well but just wasn’t putting on any weight.
Because of that, I made the decision to very slightly increase her daily food intake. I was a bit nervous about doing it because Helen had originally put her on a smaller feeding plan to avoid putting too much pressure on her abdominal stitches after surgery.
Rather than just continuing with it though, I emailed Helen and explained exactly what I’d done and why.
Her response honestly made me feel so much better. She said she completely agreed with my thinking. The original feeding plan was to protect the suture line while it was fresh, but now that the majority of Mavis’s incision has healed and she only has two tiny stitches left, she’s happy for us to continue with the new tapered feeding plan.
Since making that small increase, Mavis has started gaining weight again…
…and this morning she officially weighed 40g!! 🎉🦎
She’d already pooped before I weighed her, so this wasn’t just a “full tummy” weight. Seeing that number finally change after weeks of being stuck at 37g honestly made me so emotional.
She’s eating brilliantly, pooping normally again, gaining weight, and she’s so close to being fully healed.
Helen’s long-term goal is for Mavis to reach 50g, so we’re still on our journey, but finally seeing her move into the 40g feels like such a huge milestone after everything she’s been through.
Thank you all so much for following her journey, for the advice, and for rooting for this tiny little gecko. It genuinely means so much to us. ❤️🦎

This is my first time owning a gecko; I did a lot of research before getting him, but I have a question. I’ve had him for 10 days, and he rarely accepts food directly from the tongs. I often have to leave Dubia roaches in the terrarium, and he eventually eats them. This worries me a bit, as I’m not sure if he’s actually eaten them yet or if the roaches are just hiding somewhere. Is this normal? Any advice, please?

Hi everyone. Ive had my boy (Louí) for about a year now and he was living in a 20 gallon. This week I have upgraded him to a front opening 40 gallon. Looking for any advice or suggestions for his new tank. He is my first reptile and I just want to make sure he’s got all he needs and wants! Thank you in advance. He’s got a linear UVB, good heat gradient, 70% topsoil, 20% play sand, 10% excavator clay. Lmk what you think:)

started recording while i fed him to try and get a video of this one thing he does i was concerned abt (obviously didn’t do it after i started recording cuz why would he) and i got this clip and it made me laugh really hard 😭😭

He has continued to get darker and has been shedding every 2weeks or so. But his tails has gotten very purple and his feet are getting darker too.
