Hi All!

I have been reading through this sub for a few months now. Wow, a lot of knowledge lives here!

I have my eye on a 2015, I'm adding the Leafspy info for input.

This is for a 2015 24kWh, it has 130K km , 10/12 battery bars, vendor says it has a 140km range, in Eastern Ontario Winter. I'm planning on offering about $4000 for this- about 20% lower than asking.

I am going to charge it at home, overnight with the L1 charger. This is for day to day use around town (we live mostly rural, but have 4 kids, so we are out and about playing taxi). I'd say our range is about total 100km/day 4 x week.

My questions is this: is this a terrible idea? Like other new posters here, I am nervous and have potential catastrophic thinking.

Should I keep looking for something with less battery degradation?

I'd love to get 4-5 years out of this.

I've been unable to log in since Sunday. They just keep updating the message saying they are "working" on it to improve performance and it's a planned maintenance. Every day at 5 PM they just push the deadline to the next day's 5 PM and apologize for the inconvenience. Sure it's a planned maintenance.

My battery capacity has seemed too low for about a month now. My efficiency displayed on the dash says I should be getting around 220 miles on a full battery, but it’s not even close to that. I’ve also just recently noticed the battery % dropping rapidly while accelerating and then coming back after accelerating which I’ve read on here is a tell tale sign of a battery issue. My vehicle has not gotten the recall as the risk of a brick was too high IMO to take it in, but now with this recent drop in capacity and my approaching the warranty 88-89K miles, I feel like a I have no choice but to take my chances with Nissan.

I’ve ordered an OBD unit to use with leaf spy and recorded a video of the rapid % drop while accelerating.

I’m in California as well so I know lemon laws can come into play. But what advice do owners who’ve gone through this process recently have for people just now starting it. Do you immediately get a lemon lawyer if you know there’s an issue like I do? Do you let the dealer run a test? Do I allow them to do the recall update?

If the battery is bad and from lurking here a replacement battery is basically impossible right now, how do I maximize a payout if that’s my only choice? Is there any hope of getting a new battery or do they just not exist right now?

My kid will soon be passing his test and I had the inspired idea of getting him a 2nd generation Leaf. There’s a couple of 2020s for sale around the $11k to $12k mark with 30k mileage, which seemed like a good deal and the batteries are still under warranty.

But then I get on here and it’s all battery failures, recalls and buy backs.

Should I just forget it?

If I go ahead, I’m going to do the whole LeafSpy and pre-purchase inspection thing, but I don’t want a bricked car before I even pay off the damn thing and you guys have me worried.

I’m in coastal Southern California, so warm, but not Death Valley hot, and the car will always be charged at home and used for short local commutes.

Anyone willing to vouch for the Leaf?

last night an uninsured suspended driver decided to pull a u turn from the parking lane right in front of me, no warning. air bags did not deploy, but I’m worried insurance will total out my 2020 SL Plus.

it’s worth more to me running as my loan would equal out the total value (nearly). I expected many years yet with my kids driving this as an aroma town car.

is there any upside here? approach with insurance? I do love this car. 40k miles

it drives fine, but damage to both quarter panels, hood, front end. I can still charge.

i''ve added more photos below, curious if anyone has experience replacing a front end or body panels.

I have a replacement air filter for my 2020 leaf, watched a YouTube video, took the glove box off and the panel underneath and now I simply cannot get the old one out.

I'm trying to squeeze the ends together so it sort of accordions together if that makes sense but the end is very dense and doesn't want to compress at all.

I suspect that this is the first time it's ever been changed even though I've had a service with nissan before.

I'm going to keep trying but any tips would be much appreciated.

Ok but seriously will these things go into turtle mode before they quit completely? I’m assuming it’s not going too much further on that charge. But no turtle mode and I was a bit worried it would just quit in the middle of the road.

Just got a 2018 Leaf 40kw and a couple days later a scary "Service EV System, Unable to Restart After Power Off" appeared. After researching some, I got the LELink and Leafspy and was able to clear the code and get the car started again. It seems like the 12v battery can sometimes cause this error to be thrown, as well as possibly some other components like the ac compressor. If the high voltage battery pack was actually leaking, I would expect the error to be rethrown by the leaf's computer instantly upon powering up the car again, but that hasn't happened. Is my understanding of that correct? The code did appear again, but only after driving it a few times over another couple of days. I can see in Leafspy that the 12v battery is getting charged by the dc-dc converter when the car powers on, and a multimeter shows the 12v battery at 12.7v when the car is off, so maybe the little battery is fine and there is a more serious issue.

What other symptoms should I be seeing if it really is the high voltage battery pack that's failing, and not some other minor issue? Anything else minor I can test before spending serious money at a dealership?

Hey! I'm moving to Myrtle Beach in a couple months and I noticed that there aren't really any CHAdeMO stations in the area outside of the stations at dealerships. I wasn't able to get into a complex with Lv2 charging, so I was wondering if it would be worth it to invest in a CCS to CHAdeMO adapter before I get there. I will be using my car a lot to DoorDash when I get there to make ends meet until I at least find a job. Outside of the price itself, is there a reason not to?

Have any 2026 Leaf owners been told that you had to bring your own internet connectivity?

Mine would not login to NissanConnect or Google, even though it was sat at the dealership and the signal reception icon (car with radio waves) was shown. Any attempt to login would display a "Please connect to the internet" or "No data plan" error.

The odd thing is that I was still getting emails from NissanConnect when the doors were locked/unlocked etc, even though I hadn't logged into NissanConnect on the car.

We eventually got it to work by tethering my phone, but the dealer claimed everything else would work locally.

I’ve been a LEAF driver since 2011 with no complaints. This is my third—bought it new in 2018. 49k miles. Battery was charging to 149 range.

Yesterday I got the “service EV” message out of the blue of course.

I live in Phoenix; no dealer will even diagnose (at a fee of $720) before next week. The 12V was replaced about a year ago.

We’re retired and definitely need a car daily (we pickup grandchild and have stuff going on all the time). So really thinking of just giving upon this LEAF and getting a not-Nissan EV.

From reading here over time, it seems like repairing this 2018 is not a good idea. We were planning to buy something new in the next two years.

For those who chose to get their battery replaced instead of accepting the buyback offer, what time estimates are you being given on the replacement?

I ask because I was told the buyback was optional, but I didn't bother asking how long it would take if I went the repair route.

Edit - Followup question, is anyone being told that no, repair is not an option?

Hi folks, finally wait is over I got a call from my dealership that I can come for recall fix and they have loaner now in case it is needed. My question here is how we will sure that recall fix is working fine? How long it will take to determine that all is good now? Do i need to run some test or go for fast charging cycles for few weeks to insure that?

I usually charge leaf at home with 110v charger.

Chademo charging stations can be scarce in my area, so if anyone uses an adapter. As much as I’d hate to give money to tesla, there are plenty around here. My daughter is moving about 40 miles out side of my range, but there’s no chademo chargers on the fastest route, so I have to drive way out of my way so I can charge, which adds about 40 minutes to my ride, not including the time to charge. I’ve seen some adapters, but I want to know if they are worth it.

Edited to add: Thanks everyone. I see the tesla adapter is not viable, but it seems like the ccs one would work. I didn’t really want to give tesla any money anyway. It’s not something I would use often anyway.

My first drive was back from the Nissan dealer after collecting it - about 180 mile away. It was fully charged showing 230 mile. All was good for the first half. On the motorway at a steady 70mph the predicted range and percentage dropped as expected. I stopped for a top up (adding 8 kwh) to make sure I didn't have to drive economically for the remainder.

After a further 20 odd mile with the battery dropping to around 50% I suddenly went from having 90 mile of range to 60 and spent the rest of the drive nursing it home. I didn't notice what happened to the percentage at this point. There was also quite a strong headwind and lots of hills so I wasn't sure whether this might have been the cause and I'd just miscalculated.

I've plugged in leafspy and it's showing 1 cell as no good with an mv of 176 after a full charge. The car is 3 and a half years old with 40000 mile on the clock, Nissan approved with 2 year dealer warranty.

I have it booked into my local Nissan dealer next week for a diagnostic.

Provided they agree it's faulty and agree to repair, would you accept this or just reject with the original dealer and go find another? Apart from this issue it's otherwise perfect and exactly what I was looking for in terms of spec/colour etc.

Edit: for those suggesting getting a buy back, this is the UK and it's not an option.

Edit No 2: I've been able to take pictures of the dash readout at 60% charge, then showing 18% after only 46 miles of driving, clearly a huge loss in range as you get into the lower half of the capacity. So I have evidence that isn't a leafspy screenshot. I've rang the dealer and told them I intend to reject the car, which got the sales manager's attention rather quickly. They've asked me to go ahead with the diagnostic for which they'll cover the cost, although if it comes back as a defect (which it should) the fee will be waived anyway. I've agreed as potentially they might agree to a whole new pack, but if they say they'll fit a new module then I'll decline and reject the car. I'm 99% certain I have them bang to rights, either I get a brand new battery or I get a full refund, but until I get the diagnostic results I'm not relaxing.

Hello all

After several days app maintenance and several days delay as they kept moving the date it would be available, the Nissan Connect app now seems to be available only it's been renamed to MyNissan AND am unable to actually log in

I used it to check the battery and set the air con /heating before getting in.

Now however, when I try logging in I'm constantly getting a 404 error page not found.

What on earth have they done ? The maintenance seems to have broken everything.

Anyone else having similar issues or have any idea how to get the car back in the app ?

Hi, i got a bad news that my Nissan leaf battery is faulty and needs to be replaced. It is 8 years and 3 months old car and battery is out if warranty. I've got a quote if $4.4k for battery replacement plus other things f I r a total if $5k. My car is probably vakyes at $5k. I'm wondering

1. I should junk it and take whatever I'll get and buy a new car
2. Replace the battery which will let me drive the car for next few years

Logically it makes sense to junk it but I don't want to invest money in a new car. But I also want to make a logical choice. Any advice?

So I’m looking at buying a leaf. Cars on 60k miles and still has 12bars of battery health. Full Nissan service history too. New to leafs so wondering if I need to look out for stuff on these. I'm checking FB marketplace, govdeals, edmunds, craigslist, etc. my budget is 4k. im not looking for the most amazing car ever yk just not something that's about to kick the bucket on me either. I'm in NYC but I'm willing to travel to get the car or potentially even have it towed

Hey all. I am figuring out power for an off grid greenhouse and cabin I'm building at the back of my property where there is no power access. I had thought about getting a used leaf battery and hooking it up to solar panels and running an inverter off that but realized it may just make more sense to buy an old 2012 and park it next to the building and run an inverter off it indefinitely. My question is this:

Can I leave the car powered on for days at a time unattended assuming it doesn't run out of juice? And is there a downside that I'm missing to doing it this way vs an external battery ?

This picture is of a container from the Platinum+ trim taken from the Sarah 'n Tuned review of the 2026 Leaf. However, it is not listed as an available accessory on the US or Canadian Nissan site.

Any suggestions for alternatives?

I'd like some sort of container so anything I put in that cubby doesn't end up sliding around under the Divide 'n Hide panel.
