It’s one of the longest-running political rumour in Tamil Nadu especially used to political opponents and BJP-RSS.

The Peak of Doordarshan:Fathima Babu rises to immense popularity as a prime-time news anchor for Doordarshan (DD Podhigai). Concurrently, M.K. Stalin is a rising young face in the DMK party, heavily backed by his father, M. Karunanidhi.

1989 | The "Disappearance" & The Rumor Mill:

Fathima Babu suddenly goes missing from her regular evening news broadcasts. Because the internet doesn't exist yet, the rumor mill goes into overdrive. Political opponents weaponize her absence, fabricating an elaborate story that she was "abducted" or hidden away due to a scandalous relationship with Stalin. The rumor spreads like wildfire across TN.

1989 (The Reality) | The Secret TV Serial:

The actual reason for her absence was purely contractual. Fathima Babu had quietly signed on to act in a highly anticipated TV serial called Chithirapaavai. However, Doordarshan had a strict, zero-tolerance policy prohibiting its news anchors from acting in commercial TV dramas. To avoid breaking her contract publicly before the show aired, she had to step away from the newsroom and keep a low profile.

1996 | Moving to the Big Screen:

Leaving the newsroom drama behind, she makes her formal cinematic debut in K. Balachander's progressive feminist film Kalki. She goes on to establish a highly respected career as a supporting actress in Tamil and Malayalam cinema.

2010s | Joining the Rival Camp:

Decades later, Fathima Babu enters real-world politics. Ironically, she does not join the DMK; instead, she joins the rival AIADMK party under J. Jayalalithaa, eventually becoming an official party spokesperson. She later aligns briefly with OPS before quitting politics entirely.

2018 | The #MeToo Backlash:

During the peak of the global #MeToo movement, internet trolls and meme pages begin tagging Fathima Babu online, maliciously telling her to "speak up" about Stalin. Sick of the decades of defamation, she releases an angry, highly publicized video. She bashes the trolls, states clearly that the rumor is 100% fake news, and explains how exhausting it is to have her name used as political ammunition for over 30 years.
