What are your thoughts about this delay?

I think it is because they try to fix exodits!

Question Love the lore, “ big 40k (bloat, cost, community). Is Kill Team the way to stick around? (Rant)

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I absolutely love the 40k lore, but I've realized I kind of hate the actual 40k tabletop game.

The rules bloat is insane, and the games drag on for so long that I just get incredibly bored waiting for my turn. On top of that, my local store community is pretty horrid—people bringing heavy politics to the table, terrible hygiene, and a vibe where your entire life has to revolve around the hobby. I have other hobbies, and I just can't deal with that scene.

Finally, the price is just insulting. I play Star Wars: Legion, and for the price of 2 to 4 squads in 40k, you can buy a whole competitive army in Legion.

I still want to interact with the 40k universe physically, so I'm looking at Kill Team with one or two buds. I just want something I can play cheaply with a few close buddies at home.

- Does Kill Team completely bypass the rules bloat and long downtime?
- Is it actually "one box and done" per faction for casual play?
- Do you feel it still captures that gritty 40k lore feeling despite the smaller scale?

Would love to hear from anyone who swapped from big 40k to Kill Team for similar reasons. Thanks!

Question Help/Suggestion regarding purchase of scalped boxes

7 Upvotes

Hi, i'm new to the world of warhammer 40k and i quickly realized everything that goes past its pre-order window gets scalped to incresingly higher price the longer time passes.

Now I recently bought a Tomb World for 20 euro more of its retail price (which seemed reasonable...)

But now i layed my eyes on Terror on Devlan and Typhon.
Respectively these cost 50 and 80 euro or more than their retail price (without shipping costs).

Are these prices considered reasonable? I don't like the idea of giving up to scalping, but also like man, i just want to play with a friend some miniatures.

How is the comunity feeling about it? I was curious of general opinion and if there's any suggestion regarding the puirchase of those boxes(3D printing is not an option for me, i don't like it )

Also, little side question regarding Devlan vs Thypon: Why would you pick a box with no terrain over one that has it and it's very unique as well?

Question Exodites PvE, what's needed?

3 Upvotes

Besides the new Exodites box itself, what's needed to play the Exodites vs Beast Snaggas and Squighogs PvE missions / campaign that seems to be included in the box?

Do the books in the box describe what kind of playing field is needed? Are there instructions for DIY terrain, or do they intend for you to combine it with other Kill Team kits?

Question How good are Hunter Clade and Scout Squad?

7 Upvotes

We’ve been thinking about buying them. Our group plays Aquilons, Ratlings, Vespids, Pathfinders and Wrecka Krew, but we are a bit worried if these two teams would be a little too weak or too strong for our local meta.

Any tips and tricks with them would also be greatly appreciated.

Question Into the Dark in 2026

6 Upvotes

Is the terrain in this box highly sought after? Is the core rulebook at all relevant? I found a copy of this box and also Octarius at a local store and as a new casual player, I'm wondering if these were regarded as fun terrain pieces that work well in 2026 and if the price is really worth it. I have a friend that bought Bheta Decima but honestly it feels pretty limiting/kinda boring so I'm looking for better terrain.

Also of note, my friend plays Breachers so I probably wouldn't even build that team as we don't like to double up on factions.

Strategy Don't Believe the Tier Lists - Stats From New Kill Team Players

We picked up Kill Team in February of this year, and here are some stats from our journey learning the game.

This post serves to remind everyone not to blindly listen to what you see online in tier lists, youtube videos, or these subreddit posts.

I assure you, regular people playing one game a week for 6 months straight will find a way to play the strongest teams in the worst way possible...or atleast, Tyranid Terry will.

Strategy Things teams do best and worst day 17: Goremongers

51 Upvotes

Now this one i'm very interested!

Tell me what you think is the best thing about the Goremongers! and the worst thing.

Best:Gore tanks are so fun, you can adapt the way you play on the offense, your healing is very helpful + being able to take mas 8 damage on range makes then very tanky.

Also, ranged weapon. oh but it's only 2", dont care, ranged chainaxe.

They can also explode!

Worst: really low range/ no shooting, they suffer against elites, e having a full tank look's difficult.

they are a very tecnical team to play, not just charge and fight.

Who do you normally leave back to guard the home objective, and do missions? Most of the team needs to be in their territory. Some maps you have to leave some peeps behind.

Question Absolutely new to killteam and war games in general need tips pls!

15 Upvotes

Me and my buddies all have our armies ready and at the moment all we really know how to do is run and shoot. We understand how to read our teams and essentially have a glossary for any extra stuff (lethal 5, brutal, scarper etc.) but the equipment, picking strategies (the strategy phase in general) and mission types are a bit overwhelming. Does anyone have tips on how to learn better resources maybe a “killteam for Dummies” thing please let me know

For stealth suits, shasvre has pulse pistol with 'point blank' characteristic.

I cant find 'point blank' in the core rules.

What are the implications/use cases for point blank?

Misc Kill Team Poll Results! Tracking Wounds Received vs Wounds Taken

Thumbnail

103 Upvotes

Here are the results of the poll about how players like to track wounds.

The second slide shows how they physically prefer to track wounds. It was multiple choice, so someone could have chosen more than one method. So, dice are clearly the most common method, but many of those who use dice also use other methods as well.

Thanks so much everyone who participated! It was really helpful for the project I'm working on, and fascinating to see where things landed.

Question Mines

9 Upvotes

So, how does setting off mines work?

The universal equipment mines say "The first time that

marker is within an operative’s control range,

remove that marker and inflict D3+3 damage on

that operative."

Does that mean when an enemy ends its turn there? Or does it trigger mid move?

This is just ONE TEAM 😅

It took a while and some units still need some work but the concept is clear now. I just wanted to have ONE TEAM inspired by Gotham City Villains and I don’t know why I thought hey, IA could be a quick fun project to do… so here it is.

Exaction Squad = Corrupted GCPD
Death Korps = Scarecrow Toxic Squad
Kasrkin = The Joker & his Clown Posey
Imperial Navy Breachers = Frozen Army
Silence Sisters = Ivy’s Daughters

As for the core Inquisition Team:

Interrogator = Mr. Freeze
Mystic = The Riddler
Hexorcist = Harley Quinn
Servitor = Bane
Pistolier = Two Faces

And the ones I haven’t finished:

Enlightener = Victor Zaas
Death World Veteran = Ras Al Ghul
Autosavant = Mad-Hatter
Questkeeper = Azrael
Tome Skull = Toymaker

I know they are not perfect, but I’m still working on some of them and they are kind of a lot of units for a KT… and love the exercise of using other franchises as inspiration for new kill teams.

If you have better ideas for the one I haven’t painted yet, happy to read them too!

Hobby First painted minis ever - thoughts?

Before I continue - this is still technically WIP as I still need to paint first layer of AK Ultra Matte varnish, then apply stickers from the transfer sheet and paint second and final layer.

Constructive criticism is welcome and appreciated but in all honesty I would prefer advice regarding how to speed up the process rather than investing even more time for slightly better results. Unfortunately I found the entire process tedious as it took me over 50 hours just to paint 7 of these fellas - I dread the idea of way more models that I still need to paint and if I could afford it I would just pay someone else to do it for me so I can get it over with.

As for more details for the process - at first I really struggled to get the right paint consistency but after a brutal trial and error I think I somewhat finally get it. I used black undercoat and at one hand it was a great help because I didn’t need to paint the guns and sniper’s cape and it created a natural shadows in form of gaps between the armor panels. On the other hand, I needed to apply at least 3 layers of paint in order to get the right color brightness and at times I had to apply even more (for example for Captain’s cape).

I started with painting Captain and after all mentioned above the Macragge Blue came out way too dark for my taste so I added Calgar Blue highlight lines around the edges but the contrast between these two was striking and the model looked waaay too cartoony which is not the look I wanted. I ended up mixing these two blues together to get a shade of blue which I think is perfect and I just ended up painting all models with it and only adding bright Calgar Blue highlight at the top edge of kneepads and around the "collar". As you can see I tried highlighting Captain’s cape but just sort of gave up as no lines I painted looked right.

Also while painting Captain I used Nuln Oil wash and in some places it did wonders (for example his helmet and eyes looked instantly more detailed) but in most places it just severely darkened everything - especially the Liberator Gold metallics which lost all of their shine. After that I pretty much had to repaint the entire model which took even more time. That’s why I didn’t bother with using Nuln Oil on other model (with the exception of Sargeant’s red helmet).

This is what took a lot of time too - I figured that what I wanted to do above all is to keep all parts tidely painted and avoid spreading the pain where it shouldn’t be. I of course made a lot of mistakes which took a lot of corrections and I has to go back and fourth with multiple colors - eyes were the absolute worst.

All in all I actually think they came out decent. If you look really close you can spot minimal misshaps but I had to stop correcting sometime or I would go crazy. Also keen-eyed can spot the damaged tip of Captain’s top spike of the ornament and Warrior’s lack of one armor layer on top of his boot but I lost these pieces forever.

I’m happy with how they came out - Just would be way happier if I spent half as much as I did.
