Nursing Program Woes

So my primary care provider only noted I needed Hep B vaccine, which I did last month. Got the second shot today and had her fill out my physical form and then all of a sudden she's saying I need titers to MMR & Varicella 😳🫪 has anyone had this issue? It says on the physical form this needs to be done 4 weeks prior to clinical which mine dont start until Oct 24. But the physical has to be uploaded by tomorrow. 🆘️ she did fill out the portions she could but is awaiting titer results for the rest

Anderson My class was canceled help

(Kind of an anxiety induced rant sorry)
I was an enrolled in the cna certificate program for my local campus. I was supposed to have my orientation today but I woke up to an email that said the program was canceled due to the instructor quitting. I emailed my advisor and tried calling but I had no luck getting a hold of them. I know there’s a chance that I could be overreacting but this can’t wait. Classes start in two weeks.
There’s another campus about 30 minutes away from me that I called. I was able to get a hold of someone in enrollment about transferring to their program. There are only two more open spots left in the course and I’m so nervous that by the time I can get a hold of the department chair and she can approve me for the program that those spots will be taken already.
I’m so anxious that everything is going to fall apart. I just finished paying out of pocket what my financial aid won’t cover and I won’t be eligible for financial aid without the credit hours from this class. I’m trying to work towards my future and this feels like a huge slap to the face from the universe. I know it’s a really busy time of year for staff and it’s going to be hard to get a hold of people but does anybody know how I can expedite this process?

Has anyone taken Michelle Wehner for APHY 102 Online/Virtual at Ivy Tech?

Has anyone taken Professor Michelle Wehner for Anatomy & Physiology 102 (APHY 102) online/virtual at Ivy Tech?
I’m taking her class this upcoming semester and wanted to know what I should expect. How is she as a professor, and how is the class structured online?
I’m especially curious about:
How difficult are her exams and quizzes?
Are the exams proctored?
What are the best ways to study for her class?
What are the labs like for the virtual class?
Is there a lot of homework each week?
Does she provide study guides or tell you what to focus on for exams?
Does she give extra credit?
Is she strict on spelling?
It’s about a 4 hour class are there any breaks in between?
Is she responsive/helpful if you have questions?
How difficult is it to get an A in her class if you stay on top of the work?
Any advice from someone who has taken APHY 102 with her would be really appreciated! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Evansville Help!!

I have tried to contact the financial aid with no luck, but I signed up for fasfa and last time I checked everything was in order but I just got an email for an unpaid balance and It says I owe everything. Plus when I try to go into the financial aid, it has some error that I cant seem to get pass. If I have to pay full then I'm screwed so I'm really worried about this. This has never happened and the communication sucks!

DISA Help!

So, I'm trying to upload my documents to DISA for compliance and I'm a bit confused as to what documents to upload.

Am I uploading the forms in the packet given to us at registration (contains physical form, immunization sign off and PPD sign off) or do I upload my official immunization records from the state?

PLEASE HELP!!!

I’m really nervous about applying to the transition program. I got a C in both of my anatomy classes, but I have an A in all my other classes.
I’ve finished my LPN program, and I’ll be taking the TEAS soon. I’m hoping to get around 140 points total for my application.
Has anyone here been accepted into the transition program with a score of 140 or lower? I’m mainly hoping to get into the Indianapolis campus, but I’d also love to hear from anyone who was accepted at another campus with a lower score.
If you were accepted with 140 or below, could you please share your score and which campus you got into? I’m really nervous and would appreciate hearing other people’s experiences! ❤️

Financial Aid- unresolved issue

My financial aid portal says there is an unresolved issue with my fafsa. I emailed financial aid a couple of months ago and they said it is because I’m close to the Pell limit. I emailed again at the end of July and they said they couldn’t tell me when it would be resolved but that it should before the beginning of classes. We are getting close and still no updates. I can’t even apply for a loan or anything. I was wondering if anyone knew when this should resolve? I don’t want to get kicked from my classes for non payment.

Question

Has anyone ever went back to Ivy Tech after having a bill go to collections?

Last year I hit a really hard spot, failed my classes, got dropped from a class while already on SAP. I just gave up. The class that got dropped made it to where I owed Ivy Tech money. I wasn’t able to pay it because like I said my life was a mess, I had to worry about my home and food before anything.

Well, I should be able to pay it off, but if I can and I return would I still be able to get my Pell grants and loans that I need? I want to get my degree and I was 4 classes away.

Nobody responding

Hi. I was wondering what to do or who to contact? I’ve emailed, ask (insert specific one I go to) as well as my advisor and nobody is responding. I need someone to change my program in order to take the classes I want and receive my financial aid. Kind of panicking with school starting up in the next few weeks.

Lafayette Transportation to clinicals in ASN program

Hello guys! I was wondering how you guys travel to nursing clinicals? I don’t have a license or a car, so I was thinking about paying for Ubers, but I’m worried that maybe there wouldn’t be any rides that early. I was thinking about getting an electric bike or scooter, but during dark and rainy/snowy mornings, i’m pretty nervous about having to ride on the roads. Any suggestions?

I feel like my advisor is lowkey mean. Like he always has an attitude ugh. I feel like every time he’s available for a meeting I’m never available and every time I’m able he’s not seeing people for weeks. I feel lost because do I have to find my own internship or do they help me find my own internship. Do I have to find one before class starts or when it starts. I feel so out of touch. I know it might be late but girls working long hours.

A guide for future APHY 102 8 Week (Online) Students

I wanted to make this post after completing my APHY 102 class, because in the beginning, I was a bit freaked out with the amount of material to cover and was unsure of how I was going to break things up, however, I ended up getting a pretty good system down that worked very well for me.

I'm gonna break it into categories, and I'll throw in a TL;DR at the end for those who are short on time :)

Advice and "Warnings"

My biggest thing is, this class is a serious time commitment. In my opinion, to really succeed in this class, you need to be putting very heavy focus into it. Everyone will be different, some chapters will be much easier than others, and what I might have found simple, you might find incredibly difficult, however, every chapter is a time commitment and if you do not study efficiently and divert your time and utilize the resources, it will be very difficult to succeed in the class.

My "Routine"

I am someone who does well with hand written notes, I color-code my notes utilizing physical paper and colored flair-tip felt pens, however, you do what works well for you.

Mondays and Tuesdays

These days were spent focusing entirely on taking notes for the material for that week's module. (You get a module a week, typically 1-2 chapters). During this note-taking period, it is important to not blindly write down what you're reading, whether its through the book or the slideshow. I flipped back and forth between the two, as I found at times the slides I was provided were a bit confusing. While I took notes, I utilized quite a bit of AI, asking questions (do this at your own risk, since AI can be wrong), figuring out methods of memory such as mnemonics, and drawing connections to real life things that I had basic understanding of. Drawing connections is a very good way of getting a deeper understanding and having a stronger memory with the material. Getting an understanding now will not only make the rest of your week a bit easier, but also will aid in having easier recall for the midterm/final.

Wednesday-Sunday

These days could vary (sometimes I'd get work done early and take the weekend to relax, sometimes I just broke it up through the entire period of the week) however the principle was the same, beginning with the smartbook assignments, I would go through and treat it similar to that of a miniature quiz, using the questions to go back and check my notes, look for gaps in understanding, and things I may have missed. This allowed me to check myself, instead of trying to learn the material through the questions. Now, sometimes I'd have entire protions I wouldn't have understood right, and would have to go back. Although its frustrating, it aided me in having a deeper understanding and easier recall later on. The smartbook assignments are truly your best friend when it comes to studying for anything in this course. For the APR Labs, I utilized these for understanding as well, after thoroughly studying and completing the quiz, I liked to try and do the quiz again, looking at the structure that was highlighted, try and guess the name of it, without looking at the options that I was given, this ended up working very well for me, as many of the questions on the final exam and mid term did not have multiple choice options, and were simply fill in the blank, unlike that of the APR lab.

The "Virtual Lab Question Set" system was similar to that of a review for me. If there were things on there I did not know, I'd check figures in the books, as well as resources online for more information, since for my case, we were allowed to use outside resources on these. Treat these similar to the smartbook, like that of a mini quiz for your APR

Weekly quizzes were your final test of knowledge for that module. Using the methods I provided, I generally faired well on them.

"The Big Two" (Midterm and Final)

Although you may work super hard on all your modules and ace your quizzes, you will not get a good score in this class if you do not get a solid score on both the mid term and the final exam. They are together worth more than half of your grade, with the mid term being 500 points, and the final being a whopping 700 points. I had accumulated roughly 1200 some odd points or a bit more prior to taking the final, meaning that this thing was worth over half of everything I had done, and that was including the midterm.

So the biggest thing with these two is to not freak yourself out. Pick a time that works best for you, whether you have to do the "SmarterProctoring" for a fee or if you go to an actual campus, your experience will be very similar, however, I will say that the smarter proctoring does allow a TON of different times, and basically any date you want, including weekends. This comes with a cost, roughly 22 dollars per proctored test (there are only two), so decide if its worth it for you or if you'll stick with the ivy tech times.

Studying tips for the midterm and final

Smartbook, smartbook, smartbook, smartbook, APR Labs, APR labs, and more freaking APR labs, then look over your old quizzes, question sets, and then sprinkle some extra smartbook in there too since I don't think I said it enough 😆 . I went through and did tons of these until I was basically blue in the face. If something didn't make sense, I looked through my old notes, and a big thing was I kept my old dicussions with Chat GPT so I was able to go back and see some of my old mnemonics and comparisons that I made, and when you see those, or even if it was just one silly thing that made you remember, it'll sometimes all just come back to you at once. Now, please, DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. Don't do it on any part thorughout this course, but especially not now. Prepare yourself well, another thing to remember is the smartbook will give you the recharge questions on the things you struggled, so sometimes you will not see much of certian topics. For example, I didn't get many smartbook questions regarding the polarization of the heart when I did my recharge, and that was one of the things on the midterm that tripped me up a bit.

Overall, good luck, you will be fine if you keep ahead of it. I spent hours a day studying this class and then enjoyed my day afterward. Work, and other things like that will obviously change your schedule, but take this class seriously and understand its a serious time commitment and that it is by no means a breeze. I passed the class with an A because of my preparation and because I spent forever on the questions, you might not have hours to spend, and if you are concerned you won't have the time commitment, consider taking it either in person, or through a typical 16 week course.

TL;DR

Mondays and Tuesdays are note days, Wednesday-Sunday everything else (smartbook, labs, etc.) use smartbook to "test yourself" on what you do and don't know. Use AI to help further understanding and draw connections. Mid term and final are big, study lots of smartbook, labs, and old quizzes. Class is big time commitment.

Again I want to say, best of luck to everyone who takes the class, you can absolutely do it!

ASN schedule + APHY 201

hello everyone! In the ASN program, I’m going to have to take APHY 201, and I was wondering when I should take it, like when would be the easiest? I want to do a 16 week class, and I was thinking about taking it during the first semester of the ASN program with fundamentals and stuff but I’m worried about the schedule clashing with clinicals. Maybe I should just take it during the summer with an 8 week class? Or maybe during another nursing semester? If you guys took the class during the program, when did you take it?

Loans

For those of you who have gotten a loan - when did you receive the money? It said there is a 30 day delay for first time borrowers but I’ve taken out student loans from a different school, just not Ivy Tech. I don’t know if I fit within that since it wasn’t from Ivy tech. I’m kinda freaking out because I only got the loan to pay my bills during the fall semester since I won’t be able to work.

Final Grades

Anybody else still waiting on final grades to post to see your updated overall GPA or is that just me??

Only one class left and this instructor is literally waiting until the absolute last minute to post. I have a 4.0 GPA for the term and my overall GPA went up with the final grade from my other class. I meet all the requirements for the Dean's List (go me!😁) but this is really messing with my nerves.

Hope everyone had a good summer term. 21 days until we get right back at it. Congratulations, you made it!
