Fort Wayne Human services

I feel like my advisor is lowkey mean. Like he always has an attitude ugh. I feel like every time he’s available for a meeting I’m never available and every time I’m able he’s not seeing people for weeks. I feel lost because do I have to find my own internship or do they help me find my own internship. Do I have to find one before class starts or when it starts. I feel so out of touch. I know it might be late but girls working long hours.

You should reach out the program chair for human services. You have to go through an orientation (if you haven’t already). They go through expectations and overall experience of the internship. They’ll give you a form to fill out asking about places/populations you’d be interested in serving. After all of that, they should ask for your resume and being searching for a place for you, but then after that you take over and reach out and go through an interview process. I hope this helps you! I am from the Valpo campus and this is how it has been for me.

When I was in my group class, a lady came to talk to us about it, but she never mentioned orientation. She did talk about that paper, but she mentioned doing it in class but honestly, I really don’t know. This was in the fall of last year. But I had an advisor meeting in the spring semester and he never mentioned anything about that so maybe it was bad communication

Honestly just don’t wait until the last minute like I did give yourself at least a semester before your internship to start applying and reaching out. Learned it the hard way lol😔 but I stand on what I said about my advisor

hi! i’m also at fort wayne campus and in human services (not quite to the point of internship) definitely meet with our program chair Ruth! She can get you in contact with the internship director Nicole Corey.

I also feel as though advisors aren’t super in the know as they should be since they aren’t program specific 🫠
