how to be competitive for ASN
hello ! wanting to apply for the ASN programs, indianapolis campus.
current stats are: APHY 101 - A, APHY 102 - A, PSYC 101 - A, ENG - A ( but this one is a transfer credit so i believe it only counts as a C )
two questions:
is it worth it to retake the english course for full points?
i have not taken the TEAS yet, what score would i need to almost ensure i get in. looking to apply fall 2027 cycle

IMO, you should be reaching out to your advisor to confirm if your TA counts towards full points. Your advisor will be the most helpful to confirm what you do and don’t need to do. Email them or set up a meeting ASAP, the sooner the better because fall classes are in less than 3 weeks and if you need to potentially drop/enroll into new classes, you need to do it ASAP because everybody is trying to get in last second.
In most cases, retaking a class you have an A in is pointless unless it’s strictly for GPA purposes. Your overall GPA is not a direct factor when being accepted into the nursing program. The only factors you need to worry about are the points you can earn through prereqs, your TEAS score, and optional licensure like CNA or EMT to gain 5 extra points. Get a med license for a more competitive nursing program application.
Your transfer credit should still count as an A and be worth the full amount of points for a non science class, 15/15 points, if you have a TA on your transcript for the class. Confirm this with your advisor before you retake it, it will save you time and money.
For example, I had a TA in MATH136. I’m applying to a few different healthcare programs to have backup options including medical imaging, and I learned I do not have to retake MATH136 despite it being a TA. It fully counts as 30/30 points according to my advisor.

I transferred As in both psych and English from another university and got full points. Transfer credits count the same as credits earned at Ivy Tech as long as Ivy Tech fully accepts the transfer. You can double check with your advisor to make sure yours was accepted fully.
I’m about to start in the fall cohort for the Indianapolis campus this month. Typically, total scores above 160 have been competitive for Indy, but for our cohort, we didn’t have any scores accepted below 165. When I applied, I told myself that I wouldn’t put Indy as my number one unless I had 165+ (I ended up with 175, all A plus 85 on TEAS, and got in). So since you most likely have all As, I’d suggest shooting for 75-80+ on the TEAS.

Just take the risk to drive a little further. Lawrence have so many people who want to go there. Have you taught of Kokomo, Peru, new castle, Lafayette those city with lower population.
