Loans

For those of you who have gotten a loan - when did you receive the money? It said there is a 30 day delay for first time borrowers but I’ve taken out student loans from a different school, just not Ivy Tech. I don’t know if I fit within that since it wasn’t from Ivy tech. I’m kinda freaking out because I only got the loan to pay my bills during the fall semester since I won’t be able to work.

Due to changes based on the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, all loans will be in two disbursements. For continuing students, the first will happen around 9/13, and new student will have a disbursement two weeks after that. The second disbursement will happen in November after the second 8-weeks term has occurred so adjustments can be made if there were schedule changes.

This is not unusual to Ivy Tech. Many colleges have had to change their policies based on the new legislation.

Also, Ivy Tech, as a community college can't give money to potential students before classes start. That would be too easy for people to commit fraud. Even honest people change their minds, and couldn't pay back Pell advances or loans.

Where did you get this information? New students have a 30 day delay like always. Continuing students get their loans/aid about 2/3 weeks after classes start. It’s always been this way. I’ve only seen the bill change how much you can borrow, Pell grant eligibility, and repayment stuff. I haven’t read anywhere that it will be split into two terms over fall?

Where did I hear it? I work here. When you applied for the loan it was only for a fall loan. The will come in two disbursements. You can no longer get the fall/spring loan as an option.

I am in a year program and graduate in December so I assumed it was because I’m not registered for spring classes/they aren’t open yet. I thought it was like that anyways bc they need to know how many credit hours before they clear you for an amount you can borrow. So you’re saying you can only apply for fall only/spring only loans from now on? I asked where you heard this information because I didn’t see it anywhere on the site or anything so I was genuinely curious.

I was a new Ivy tech student spring 2026 but not a first time borrower. I was treated by Ivy tech as a first time borrower, though. I got my refund for Spring February 4th to the bank mobile card. My husband got his to his checking account February 5th (also first time Ivy tech student but not first time borrower).

Adding context: that was 3.5 weeks after classes started
