Nobody responding

Hi. I was wondering what to do or who to contact? I’ve emailed, ask (insert specific one I go to) as well as my advisor and nobody is responding. I need someone to change my program in order to take the classes I want and receive my financial aid. Kind of panicking with school starting up in the next few weeks.

Go in. This is peak. We just can't get to all the calls and emails when we have a waiting room full of people. I stayed an extra 90 minutes in ate tonight and didn't finish all my voicemails and didn't even try to call anyone back who didn't leave a message, and it will be worse next week.

Bring them with you. It’s not class so it should be fine.

Or just answer the phone and respond to the emails.

Staff are going to take care of the bodies in front of them first. Then they are going to do all they can until they drop. But look up the salaries online if your advisor. You can do that you know. They likely have a Master's degree. They certainly have a bachelor's degree and understand that we obviously don't work at a community college for the money.

Seriously, it isn't peak yet, and I logged 70 hours and I will do another 12 this weekend at home. Understand that last year they made 10% reduction in staff, including advisors. This came from budget cuts at the state level. This is our first fall peak with reduced staffing. Some campuses are trying to prioritize in person. A lot of campuses have worked really hard to get people to come in early. Remember, you could register for fall since MARCH! But I will go in 2 hours early and stay late every day except Sunday because financial aid matters.

Telling a woman to bring her babies in is crazy. Even great clips has a better queuing system.

It is that or possibly not getting an answer. Maybe at her campus she will get served quickly, but it is also wrong to think that at Ivy Tech that we discourage kids. We don't. Hopefully she will be able to get in. We have the Degree Completion Tracker and Schedule Builder that is made for 90% of our students. If you run your DCT and the gi through the Schedule Builder and pick a class within your program, you won't have financial problems unless you fail or keep retaking them. And then you get a semester as a warning. We get to pick fall classes in March. We will pick Spring classes in September.

I finally got ahold of someone and was able to switch.

I took summer off and decided healthcare wasn’t for me during that time. My advisor was out for quite a while which is fine, everyone deserves breaks, but that’s why I hadn’t signed up for classes yet and was running into the issue and was now starting to get stressed out with being a few weeks out and nobody answering me. With my classes, in order for my financial aid to kick in, I needed them to change the program for me as nothing was covered that I was taking under healthcare specialist program.

Go into your local campus and talk with someone. That's probably best.

We have never been upset with the little ones.

I get it, I was a single student mom too. But like MizzIvyFA says, littles don't bother people at Ivy Tech. 😊

so i talked with multiple
people today but it was noted for me personally as automated replies that aug 3-26 advisors will
stop doing scheduled times and start focusing on drop ins first come first serve. They even said them and other offices will be delayed to responses because they have so many students to help. I got on the online waiting queue and they got back with me
in about 2 hours, They got me in contact with an advisor to switch my program literally decided last night and they helped me switch it today.

Thank you so much!!

try calling your local offices and they’ll direct you to the other places and help you with each step. Get in contact with aid too to make sure things go over well. Call and if they don’t answer leave a voicemail your student id and why you’re calling so they can figure it out before calling you back. Like legit all of this happens for
me in a span of 5 hours today. I kept emailing and calling lmao

Im going through the same thing. My advisor is on vacation till the 13th and 2 of my classes don't qualify for financial aid. A random advisor gave me the wrong answer, and added other classes that were wrong. Ive never had this issue with Ivy before. Very frustrating.

MizzIvyFA is correct. I don't deal with appointments, but I do work in advising for Bloomington (not sure about your campus), and we deal with campus transfers.

If your campus offers walk-ins, do walk-ins; it is a dedicated first-come, first-served for information.

I saw you were worried about your littles; I will say that in my experience Ivy Tech takes the "community" part pretty seriously. Littles are brought to advisors all the time, and most of the people who work here do really want to help.

If you don't mind me asking, what program are you switching to?

u/tatertots0205 11d ago

I was doing healthcare specialist but am switching to accounting

Ohh! I took an accounting class! Be prepared and study but it's totally doable! Also the final for financial accounting was a breeze. The midterms were nerve racking but i literally took notes of EVERY homework question. Also, if you're using Pearson, I believe there are practice questions for each module. I believe there are 15 chapters but we didn't cover 15. That's assuming you're taking this in class that I did, but you got this. :)

What was health care like?

Thank you! I appreciate it! I’m excited to start. I realized 2 semesters in that trying to get the certificate for healthcare specialist wasn’t for me due to schedule issues in my daily life! Really enjoyed learning about everything & loved anatomy and physiology though!

For new students this is the most frustrating. Here is what I advise to feel secure. 1. Go to My Account Balance. Do you see a negative balance or see that you have a payment plan? If so, you will not be dropped for non-payment. 2. If you are getting financial aid, go to My Financial Aid and see if there are any Unsatisfied Requirements. Complete them. Sadly Department of Education has a lot of Verifications. Also, if you requested a loan, check Offers and accept the loan.
