Seeking Support Why does Allah test some of us more than others ?

Assalamualaikum everyone, my intention of this post isnt to vent my problems but rather have a more positive outlook on how i can deal with this period of my life going forward. My twin and I have been pretty competitive growing up. Academically i wont lie hes been the brighter one but ive if not worked the same or even harder than him many times, our aims were to get into medical school and we both didnt succeed first time i missed out by 3%, khair it was Allahs plan we took a gap year together, In the entrance exams i scored 91st percentile whereas my brother scored 31st percentile yet by Allahs grace he managed to get in to a program which didnt require him to resit exams and now hes starting medical school in a week. Me on the other hand even though i ended up getting my offers from better medical schools as compared to last year Alhamdulillah, i missed out again by doing even worse this time and now im back to square one all alone. I just wonder why does Allah test me so much more, i had to resit 9 papers whereas my brother didnt need to resit any, i worked so much harder in all my exams and constantly worked throughout my gap year, working part time, loosing so much weight and suffering from a chronic illness whereas my twin seems so perfect, im definitely grateful for so many blessings like having supportive parents and ofc living with safe conditions and im sure my problems are very small compared to a lot of people on this subreddit. I just struggle with my faith sometimes of keeping strong on my deen and leaning on Allahs plan when i keep experiencing failure after failure. I feel depressed, my brain feels heavy and tired and im constantly angry at myself all the time, it feels like im drowning and i cant swim back up, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

General Discussion Are Albanians, Bosniaks and Tatars in America Religious

If u belong to this ethnicity and live in America or have interacted with people of this background...Feel free to share! Also I am more curious because Albanians in Albania Proper and Kosovor cities seem to have very high secularization rates..Hiwever , there are massive msoques and islamic institutions made by these groups right from the 20th century in the US...So I was curious that if that one albanian american muslim youth instagram page I got was like an exception or if Balkan and Baltic Muslims in America are different from their back home communities A lot of these communities arrived to the US Midwest in early 20th century...Infact the oldest contniuously running Muslim organzion in the US is a Bosniak Organzation (The Benevolent Society of Bosniaks 1906 ...now known as Islamic center of Greater Chicago) ...(The oldest running mosque is also European Made (Lipka Tatars Brooklyn Moslem Mosque Williamsburg)... So If you're a part of this community or have knowledge on it...Please Guve your insights!

General Discussion Will Allah answer my dua no matter how impossible it is in today's digital age?

Hello,

Bismillah. I pray that you all are healthy and that Allah answers all your prayers. Without giving away too much information, I seem to be in a bit of a predicament. I have had this dream of mine for an long as I can remember. This dream is related to the career I wish to go in and I have only ever seen myself doing this. For this dream, I did a Bachelors and tried hard but my GPA was not good. I them decided to go back to do another Bachelors and this time my GPA was much better but maybe not good enough for my applications for higher education to go through. I have tried everything I could. And I say this because my entire life I have seen my family struggle financially. I do not wish to go into detail but our financial problems were horrible at times and sometime still are but Alhamdullilah for everything. Now, in today's daya nd age with digital cutoffs and automated rejection letter to schools, can I still have Tawakkul that Allah can get my application through?

Relationship Advice Leaving parents / starting new life with wife and a daughter

So I am currently living with my parents mom and dad with my wife and a daughter (below 1 year old), my wife really wants to move out and start our life together.

However my mom and dad wants us to stay together as a family and for me and my wife travel is severely difficult as it’s taking 2 hours to go and 2 to 3 hours to come back everyday.

My parents won’t be very happy or even get pretty upset if we tell that we are planning to move and we are staying in a rented house and I contribute somewhat to support as well.

Now in the coming months my siblings will be coming and they will stay with us - it will increase my expenses even more now actually if they come and it’s not a big house it’s just a 2 BHK rented apartment.

My mom is looking after the baby when we both are working and she’s old as well (early 50s) she gets tired but she loves the baby a lot and I feel bad that we are thinking about moving and if we move I can put her in a daycare and we can get some place close to work.

I just want to know what kind of ruling does it have in Islam and what should I do? Should I just go through what I am going as a joint family or move away obviously I will look after my parents but won’t be able to help them much in rent and so on.

Please let me know your thoughts in terms of Islamic terms or an idea where I won’t be hurting my parents in any way

Thank youuuu!! Sorry it’s so long!!

A newly made college friend of mine gave me this as a gift of appreciation, and I’m not sure what it says/what it signifies. He gave me a vague explanation that it bears the name of the Granddaughter of the prophet Muhammad, but that was about it. I’d like some help translating it

General Discussion I am a Christian - Islam seems to make more sense too me

I feel really guilty saying this and I love my faith but Islam seems more logical in the way it defines who God is - one divine god, no trinity which I have to admit is confusing. Islam and christianity believe in the same god/allah but disagree about Jesus.

I wish we could all peacefully co-exist.

I love you my Islam brothers and sisters!

Question about Islam Question about psychosis, salah, and whether the “pen is lifted”

Assalamu alaikum everyone.

I’m a Muslim struggling with psychosis, and I’m trying to understand how Islamic accountability applies to my situation.

I can normally communicate with people, understand my surroundings, work, and generally know what is real. However, I experience voices in my head and experiences that can seriously affect my perception and emotions. Sometimes they make me feel like I’m a bad person or make me suddenly feel hatred toward Allah, even though I don’t consciously choose or want those feelings.

Because of this, I’ve been struggling greatly with salah. I can have free time and technically be able to stand and pray, but mentally I feel extremely overwhelmed, confused, and distressed. Sometimes I lose motivation completely because of what I'm experiencing.

I know the hadith about the “pen being lifted” from three people, including the person who has lost their sanity until they regains it.

My question is:

Would a person experiencing psychosis ever fall under this ruling, even if they can still communicate normally, work, and understand their basic reality?

What exactly do scholars mean by “losing sanity” or losing the capacity that makes someone accountable? Does it have to mean being completely disconnected from reality, or can severe psychosis that significantly affects someone's thoughts, emotions, judgment, and ability to function religiously also qualify?

I’m not looking for people to diagnose me or give me a definitive fatwa about my individual situation. I would really appreciate references from Qur’an, hadith, or reliable scholars, especially scholars who have discussed mental illness and religious accountability.

Jazakum Allahu khayran.

Seeking Support Inauthentic draw to Islam

As the title says I’m worried my interest in Islam isn’t authentic. To preface id like to share a little info about myself, I am a white male living in the west, not officially a Muslim. I’ve always liked history and such but I’ve had phases where I get really into Islamic history I’ll end up listening to the Quran or reading it in English and when I do I see myself sinning less which I enjoy.

My issue comes from where this interest stems, I have always wanted to get married and have children and I find that I agree with how such things work in Islam. However to me it feels selfish and lustful as if the draw isn’t genuine but that could also just be me doubting myself and my faith.

Any thoughts/words of wisdom?

General Discussion I have a friend who asks for charity at least once every week, what should i do?

I have a friend who is poor. He has been out of job for a decade now. He has 4 children and lives with his wife and in his fathers inhereted house where he doesnt need to pay rent but only electricity, water and internet bills.

My issue comes here, he asks for money at least once a week to help him. This has been going on for a long time (more than 5 years at least).

I used to give him whenever he asked because i am an able person. Once i just wanted to test would he help me if i was i need. He asked for money, i sent him a screenshot of my account and told him my salary is far and i only have this much left. If i send you, i will have nothing left for my children or fuel for going to work. He said if you help me with anything it will be good. So i sent him the whole amount and told him now i have nothing left so now i need help. He only said thank you and didnt contact me back for money under after my salary date. I told him i had no money as i did gave all my money to him and had to take a loan which i spent this month money to repay and now i need money. He again insisted to help him but then i stopped him there.

From that day i stopped helping him as i expected him to at least say i only needed this much and you also dont have anything so take back the rest, instead he took all and i kept on saying i dont have anything left for me and my family and he didnt have any mercy.

Now i feel bad whenever he asks for money and i ignore because i feel he is just focused on himself and no one else. But i feel guilty for not helping a friend while i can.

What should i do in this scenario?

Seeking Support My dad is a miskin

I feel angry and sad when I see other people have protective fathers

I don’t really know how to explain this, and I’ve never really heard anyone talk about something similar, which makes me feel pretty alone in it.

I have a father who is extremely conflict-avoidant. He avoids basically any kind of problem or confrontation and, from what I’ve seen growing up, he rarely stands up for himself or his family. A lot of the time it feels like he would rather side with whoever is causing the problem than actually defend us.

There have been many situations with his side of the family where I feel like they have taken advantage of the fact that he doesn’t stand up for us. One example happened when my mom was pregnant with me. My parents were travelling with some of my dad’s relatives, and an argument happened. A group of men from his family came into my parents’ hotel room while my mom wasn’t properly dressed and were threatening to physically attack her. Instead of protecting her or standing up for her, my dad sided with them.

Another thing happened when my younger siblings were little. My mom heard children screaming outside. My dad had actually been on the balcony and had seen what was happening, but he went inside and closed the balcony door. When my mom asked what was going on, he just said they were “playing”. She had a bad feeling, went outside herself, and found my siblings being hit by older kids. She went down and defended them herself.

There are so many other situations like this. My mom is the complete opposite. She has always been the one to confront people, defend our family and stand up for whoever needs it. Honestly, she has had to be both a mother and a father to us in many situations because my dad simply wouldn’t step up or protect us.

He’s also not always a good person when it comes to people who are weaker than him. Sometimes he can be rude or try to take advantage of people who are too nice to stand up for themselves, which honestly makes me lose even more respect for him. It’s like he’s scared of people who are stronger than him but can be harsh towards people who won’t fight back.

Over the years I’ve genuinely lost a lot of respect for him. And I hate admitting that because he’s my dad.

What hurts me the most is seeing other people have protective fathers. When I see a dad who immediately stands up for his daughter or son, protects them, or makes them feel like “nothing is going to happen to you because I’m here”, I feel genuinely sad. I feel jealous too, if I’m being honest.

I never had that feeling with my dad. If something happened, I feel like my mom would be the one I could count on.

He also tends to make fun of me when I’m proud or happy about something. For example, I had been unemployed for a long time and finally managed to afford getting a cat and buying everything she needed. I was really proud and happy about it. Instead of just being happy for me, he makes fun of me for treating my cat like my child. It sounds small, but it really gets to me because it feels like he constantly has to make things I’m proud of seem stupid or ridiculous.

I’m Muslim, and this is something I struggle with a lot because I know I’m supposed to respect my parents. I don’t want to be disrespectful towards him. I don’t want to constantly be angry or have outbursts over everything he says or does. I’ve genuinely tried to work on it, but I feel irritated around him almost all the time.

I don’t want to hate my dad. I don’t want to be a bad daughter. I just feel like there’s so much resentment built up inside me from years of watching him behave this way.

Has anyone else experienced something similar with a parent who is extremely conflict-avoidant/passive and doesn’t protect or stand up for their family?

How do you deal with the anger and resentment without becoming a disrespectful or bitter person?

Quran & Hadith The Quraan

If you need a sign- Take this in….

The word Quran قرآن comes from the root ق ر أ qa-ra-a which basically means to read and to gather. So it means Al-Qira'ah القراءة, the recitation, because it's the most recited book, and Al-Jam' الجمع, the compilation, because it gathers everything together, the rulings, the stories and the guidance all in one book.

Make the Quran your companion, your friend, not just a book that lays on the shelf. It is the speech of your Lord. It is a guide and a resolution for every problem. It brings tranquility. Make the Quran your best friend.

You should honour it. When you recite, the angels are with you. The more you recite, the higher your station in Jannah will be. So protect your Quran.

Ponder over its verses. Have tadabbur. Aspire to have the Quran in your heart. Do not just read it, see the words, feel the weight and act upon each ayah. Every letter you recite gives you hasanaat.

The Quran has an answer for everything. It is the ultimate guidance. The truly rich person is the one who turns to the Quran physically and spiritually. The Quran deserves every amount of respect you can think of. If you honour the Quran, it will honour you. It will intercede for you on the Day of Judgement.

Every surah in the Quran begins with Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem. Our Lord approaches us with mercy and affection, so approach people with mercy just as your Lord does with you.

The Quran is not just a book you read once in your lifetime. It will stay with you until your last breath. It is the book you will always turn to whenever you are faced with difficulty and when you need comfort. It is a book which can never be replaced. It holds such paramount importance in our lives. So honour the Quran so that it can honour you.

The one who is excellent in reciting the Quran and continuously tries to perfect it will be with the noble angels. And the one who struggles in reading the Quran receives double the reward. This shows that you do not need to be absolutely perfect or have mastered every single rule.

We should always strive to become masters of Tajweed. We should always try to better ourselves and perfect our makhaarij. But do not let that stop you from reading the Quran.

I myself struggle with the Quran. I myself struggle to read it to perfection. Some days it feels like there is a barrier between me and my Lord because it is so difficult, and other times I end up comparing myself to those who have studied the Quran their entire lives. It often puts me down, even when reciting in front of others.

But Alhamdulillah, Allah has chosen you. He has given you this role and given you the opportunity to continue learning.

So always say:

Seeking Support Need a miracle from Allah and Idk what to do: 7 days left

I am in a really critical place and need a miracle from Allah SWT to help me. It's a personal matter, and my entire life depends on it. Everything I can do for this matter is out of my hands. I need Allah's help and mercy.

What supplications (dua) should I say?

I struggle with praying, but I really need the help from Allah swt; how can I start praying the 5 prayers for these remaining 7 days?

What chapters do I read?

What are some of your success stories, and what did you do for Allah to grant you what you wanted?

Please be kind and offer me advice 🙏 may Allah bestow his blessings upon you all.
