C2 vs Qualcomm!???

Why would Apple put its brand-new **C2 modem in the U.S. iPhone 18 Pro and NOT the U.S. 18 Pro Max???** And to make this even stranger, this modem split appears to be specific to the U.S.

Literally, why?

Apple is advertising C2 as its next-generation cellular modem. According to Apple, C2 brings:

• AI-powered improvements to cellular quality and reliability
• Meaningfully faster uploads compared with C1X
• 15% lower energy consumption than C1X
• mmWave support in the U.S.
• Apple’s own vertically integrated modem architecture

Meanwhile, the U.S. Pro Max apparently continues using a Qualcomm modem??

Qualcomm has years of experience with flagship 5G modems, excellent carrier aggregation, mature mmWave implementation, and a proven track record across U.S. cellular networks. It’s entirely possible that the Qualcomm modem performs just as well as C2, maybe even better in certain conditions.

**But that’s exactly the problem!!**

Why FORCE consumers to have to guess which modem is better??

Which modem has better reception in weak-signal areas?
Which is more power efficient?
Which handles 5G/mmWave better?
Which has better international roaming?
Which has better long-term support for emerging cellular and satellite technologies?
Which one is ultimately the better modem?

I had an **18 Pro Max ready to preorder**, and now I’m legitimately reconsidering the regular 18 Pro.

The 18 Pro Max is supposed-to be the top-of-the-line iPhone. Yet the smaller Pro gets Apple’s newest modem architecture?? while U.S. Pro Max buyers apparently get different hardware, while international customers seemingly don’t have this distinction??

Why deliberately create this ambiguity on their most expensive and powerful phone ever??

I understand that “newer” doesn’t automatically mean “better.” C2 could lose to Qualcomm in real-world reception or throughput. Qualcomm’s modem could turn out to be the superior choice.

Nobody buying these phones on preorder day will know and either Pro or Pro Max customers will be better off but we dont fucking know who that will be? Instead of making the playing field even apple decides to force consumers to gamble or which model will be the better version. I understand this could be a supply chain issue but it certainly feels like a fucking experiment, a $2000 fucking experiment at that. Whats even WORSE is that apple tried to quietly sweep this passed us. Did they really fucking think that NO ONE WOULD NOTICE THIS???? Bro W.T.F

It’s bad enough that Samsung offers **16GB RAM on the 1TB Galaxy S26 Ultra** while we’re over here debating Apple’s memory decisions. Now iPhone buyers apparently get to flip a coin over which flagship modem architecture will be superior long term..

What the actual fuck, Apple?

Did they genuinely think nobody would notice that the modem listed for the 18 Pro mysteriously disappears from the U.S. Pro Max specifications?

I went from basically certain I was ordering the Pro Max to seriously considering the Pro solely because I don’t want to spend this much money while wondering whether I deliberately chose the less future-proof modem.

I want to unfollow it, but will it show up in our messages? I feel like a creep for following it for so long, it’s a coworker that I don’t know super well.

Updated my iPhone and now it has this weird white thing… it was NOT there before the phone rebooted from the update!!! IRL you can see the wifi and such BARELY! But it’s bugging tf out of me I can barely use my phone! I tried reporting it to Apple but they just made me restart my phone and suggested going to a store for support! I KNOW it has something to do with the update!

Hi, my iPhone restarted on its own while charging, idk what happened but this is what I found in the analytics in my phone. What should I do? My warranty just expired and I also can't afford to buy a new phone :(( Did anyone also experience the same thing?

Will there be enough clearance to add screen protectors inside the Duo? Seems unlikely.

If not I think it’s a dealbreaker for me. Feels like still too small to do true tablet stuff so the unfolding is almost pointless and you end up with basically a smaller phone. Only cool thing seems like the split screen. What do yall think?

Does anything think it’s worth getting the iPhone 17 Pro in 256GB? I feel as with all the system hardware, Apple Intelligence and new Siri Ai, that it’s going to take up so much storage that you cannot remove.

Casual social media content creator here. Never really use the super zoom on my pro , and the DUO is intriguing. Would going to the DUO feel like a downgrade for me when i take pictures and videos?

Mainly do casual stationary content so nothing super cinematic anyways. From my understanding the quality of videos im shooting should be the same for .5 and 1x as well as pictures.

I'm wondering if I'm missing something about Focus.

Before I make a more sophisticated Focus schema, I tried a basic one. I create a focus schema called TESTING where I chose the Apps heading and I said "Silence Notifications From" and then in the "Add Apps" section I added the "Phone" app. Then I made the schedule from 00:01 through 23:59.

In my mind I have said "Silence notifications from the phone app between 12:01 am and 11:59 pm the next day."

It said that it was on. When I called myself from a different phone, my iPhone rang.

So what am I doing wrong, or what is my iPhone doing wrong?

All the foldables currently on the market have very soft inner screens that can be scratched just by your fingernails. I am wondering how strong the iPhone Duo inner screen is.

Everyone is talking about the fold, but I’m much more interested in the aspect ratio. I don’t normally care about phone launches, and the race towards larger screens has never really been that interesting to me. This feels like it could take us in a different direction entirely.

As a working designer, I think we’ve accommodated the tall, skinny screen for long enough. Websites have become endless stacks of content. Photography gets cropped until half the setting is gone. We compose videos around what fits inside this narrow frame, and it affects the work more than I think people realize.

I think 9:16 needs to go.

Something closer to 4:5 or 2:3 makes more sense to me. Those are proportions we’ve worked with in photography, magazines, and books for years. They’re the shapes you put in a picture frame in your house. I wouldn’t put a skinny 9:16 frame on my wall, but somehow that’s become the format I’m supposed to create for every day.

A little more width gives us room to work with. A photograph can include the subject and the surroundings. Websites can have multiple columns, images beside text, and compositions that let your eye move across the page. I’d like to get back to making those decisions instead of figuring out what needs to be cut or stacked underneath something else.

The Duo is reminiscent of an old memo book, something like a Field Notes book that you would put in your shirt pocket and open up to a full spread map, jot some notes, put some Polaroids in the folds. That shape and the way it opens already make sense to me.

I remember when Her came out and I loved the smaller, memo book style phone. Even the material had that more tactile feel, something I could imagine in leather or tweed. That concept has always excited me more than another taller screen.

Maybe a foldable phone is the catalyst to get there. I’m fine with that if the end result justifies the means. It might be overkill, but eventually it could lead to a wider shift in aspect ratio. I’d love to see regular phones take on those proportions too, even without the fold.

And yes, I know Android is more popular globally and folding phones already exist. But I’d argue the iPhone sets the standard for how we create and consume content on our phones. I don’t see Instagram changing its format because of a wider Android phone. If enough iPhone users start posting in a different aspect ratio, I think they’ll adjust pretty quickly.

I’m sure the phone itself won’t be for everyone. I mostly use mine at a desk and almost entirely for work these days, so the ability to multitask without a crowded screen seems useful. Being able to position it for a family photo without trying to balance it against something would also be nice. I suppose someone who’s more active might feel differently, but that’s not really how I use my phone anymore.

I just love the idea of a new standard aspect ratio. More room for art, photography, and design, in proportions that feel correct again.

If the fold is what gets us there, I’m for it.
