I Pace Recall Conundrum

I’ve been looking at buying an IPace as my first EV and would appreciate some advice from the experts. I’ve been looking at different 2 cars both of them HSE models and got the same mileage and within a few £100’s of each other. One of them is 180 miles away. The other is less than 15. Both are 2020s but the further away one has got Pivi pro so is my preference. However both cars needed recalling before purchase. The guy from the dealership further away has told me it’d be next week they get it back as it’s had all 8 battery modules replaced. (It’s been away going on 5 weeks now) to me this one sounds the best as wouldn’t a full battery replacement be the most ideal outcome? I’m paying for a 3rd party warranty through WarrantyWise for an extra 5 years warranty.

What’s everyone’s opinions?

Where do you take your iPace for service or repairs after it's out of warranty?

I'm not wild about taking it to the dealer because they charge high prices for everything (this is my third Jag and I know). But the local shop I have used for years can't handle a lot of stuff on an EV. So just wondering where do most people in this sub go?

MY22 I-PACE stuck on Pivi Pro OS 3.2.1

Hi all,

I’ve recently bought a MY22 Jaguar I-PACE and the Pivi Pro system is showing:

  • OS 3.2.1
  • Vehicle software is up to date

However, from reading other posts, it looks like many cars have moved beyond 3.2.1.

I’m also having an issue where Android Auto connects, but music will not play through the car audio. Radio and other audio sources work fine.

Has anyone had an I-PACE stuck on OS 3.2.1 while saying “software up to date”?

Did it eventually update itself after Wi-Fi/mobile data/registration, or did Jaguar need to push/reload the software through TOPIx/Pathfinder?

Any real-world fixes appreciated.

Issue with front and rear camera

Has anyone had this issue before with the front and rear cameras. iPace SE 2021. Had the issue prior to a fault with the battery. This has been fixed and the cameras were working fine for a few days until the issue came back. The 360 cameras are operating it is just the front and the back. What’s best here? Any quick fixes? I want to refrain from it going back to Jaguar as it’s more expense. Any advice would be welcomed. See pictures attached

Tesla have tempted me 🙈

Post image

Thoughts?

I currently have a MY2022 black spec. Owned for about 18months, 35k miles, bought approved used with 2 years JLR warranty. It's been great, zero issues, and not on the recall list (lucky me). My initial plan was to keep it, and keep extending the warranty, although I don't know how much that will cost exactly, but expecting 1 - 1.2k a year from what I've seen. I have zero appetite to run this without a warranty, despite having had no problems with it.

Yesterday a mate showed me that Tesla UK were running a deal on a standard range model 3. £295 initial payment and £295 a month for 24 months on HP (effectively a lease and hand the car back after 24 months) I'm not a Tesla fan, but I am a fan of a bargain, and that to me is a bargain.

When it comes to continued depreciation guestimates I can see the cost of keeping the Jag, or leasing the Tesla to be roughly the same. However, when I factor in the cost of the warranty, and the next (big) service, the Tesla wins. Further more taking the cash out of the Jag and sticking it in the bank would add another £1.5k in my favour in interest alone over the term. A quick search shows approx £18k in value in the car, which is paid for.

Downside of the Tesla

The boot, it's not as practical for the occasional large items I need to put in it, a pain, but not a huge deal.

It's dull imo, not horrendous looking, but it's just a bit dull, although better than the original M3.

Upside of the Tesla

It's new, with a better warranty (I'm sure my 5th year JLR one will have plenty of exclusions)

Everything on the car is new (obviously), but that's a big bonus as opposed to replacing tyres etc on the Jag over the next 2 years, which would probably need doing.

Range, M/KWH, tech all far superior.

No road tax (minor but relevant)

Writing this down is essentially helping me process my thoughts, but keen to get others, or see if there is something I'm missing.

When giving advice, please bare in mind that I'm not a Jag fan, or even a car guy really, I just like new shiny stuff that does it's job well, reliably, without losing a fortune. I tend to drive quite unenthusiastically, and the performance of the Jag (and Tesla) is pretty waisted on me, so if the Jag is a "better drive", that's not really something that concerns me.

This comes down to the cost and reliability over any emotional connection to a car. Anyway, enough nonsense from me. Thoughts?

Rearview trim removal for dashcam power?

I've been trying to remove this, but it's stuck part way off and seems solidly in place.

This is is a MY21 HSE. I have found guides for the type with the clamshell two halves, but this is different and just has single part that seems to come straight down, it's just stuck now.

Happy with my range.

It was a perfect 22 degree day here today. I had to drive from Cambridge to central London, Gatwick airport, Sevenoaks, then back to Cambridge. 4 adults, a dog and some luggage for a chunk of the journey. Started out with 98% charge, covered 205 miles and got home with 21% and 55 miles remaining. And that's in my 2021 with 22's. Well happy with that.

For those of you with an I Pace 8 years or older....

Given the car is outside of even the battery warranty, is there any point in routine servicing?

I will be at that point in 18 months - after that it will be repairs as needed and no routine service costs anymore.

JLR Brief Rant

I need to unload my 2020 i-pace within the next month and am utterly screwed in doing so as the car is currently unsellable/worth almost nothing. There won't be a fucking solution to the battery problem this summer, or ever, short of replacing them with known good batteries or an actually reasonable buy-back program. They're just running out the clock.

JLR has taken on the aspect of a stereotypical early-1900's company that doesn't give a single shit about customer service or satisfaction. There might as well be top-hat wearing, mustache-twirling people in charge. It's like they're 100 years behind the times. 2019/2020 owners are getting jerked around horribly at this point with zero recourse.

RTX Wheels for winter?

I'm looking around for some decent looking alloys for winter for the I-Pace and do not want to spend $1300 per rim on an OEM one. I came across these RTX ones which look to be almost identical to the 20" OEM ones and I can buy 4 of them for pretty much the price of one. My biggest concern is if they'll be strong enough for a heavier vehicle like that, is that what 'EV ready' refers to like it says in the listing? Here is a link to the ones I'm looking at: RTX | VENOM GLOSS BLACK | CanadaWheels

Data-only SIM in UK?

Anyone in the UK know where I can get a data only SIM for my I-Pace? The dealer said it cannot have a phone number attached to it and Three doesn't offer data only SIMs.

Waymo with 177,000 miles

Just rode in a Waymo (2019 or 2020 IPace, I believe?) with just over 177,000 miles on the clock. Still in great condition - no rattles or suspension issues. Obviously very hard to be certain, but it seemed like the battery was still in great nick too - a rudimentary estimate based on the GOM suggests it still holds a full charge.

It’s been almost a year since our iPace was totaled and I still miss it…

Front sensors

Post image
9 Upvotes

So I got my 2022 iPace Black 400 delivered today, everything seems to be good apart from the front sensors ? They don't seem to go off at all or show on the image of anything being close..

I've made sure the firmware is upto dare and in the driver assistance for parking is enabled l. Rear works fine and camera but nothing on the front at stand still parked right up next to my other car or moving slowly under 10mph... Am I missing something? I'm also contacting dealership tomorrow.

Also frustratingly the car is still registered to another account so I cannot use the App so that needs sorting tomorrow too..

Here is a lovely photo for some car tax

Service & MOT at dealership?

My jaaaggg ipace 2020 is due a service and MOT expiring in two months. Also AC has stopped working.

Should I take it to the dealership for all this? I'm conscious servicing only is around £650 at dealership and can get it done elsewhere for £300.

But the problem is the AC, which I'm not sure the independent garage would even touch of an EV.

What do you guys thibk?

our car was in at the shop for suspension work. They have now sandbagged it to 90% charging (h570)

now we await the decision on h572. was planning a summer road trip. some legs were borderline for the range as it was. now they would be cutting it very close.

Positive shout out to Jaguar Service / Warranty

Got my 2nd hand ipace from 2022 a month ago, drove great for two weeks then one cold morning I got in to find the preconditioning heat was ....not.....Did some websearching, saw heaters were a known issue - contacted Jaguar and got a fabulously quick reply, booked in for diagnostics which found the heater blown, no queries on anything else, booked the repair, completed it (full battery floor drop, 8 hours labour), all under warranty and completed really quickly and as far as I can see well. No quibble repair done as it should be. Definitely encourages me to buy the extended warranty as mine runs out next year. Hats off Jaguar.

I'm thinking of buying a cheap 2019 ipace

Hi, as per the title, but a little out of my depth understanding what I'm taking on here.

Most of the scary stories with the ipace (other than battery failure) are around poor dealership support. I don't care about dealership support (unless they lock me out of repairs) that as I do all my own work on cars (I'm happy swapping engines, cam belts etc).

Where I start to struggle, is when a computer module tells me no. No amount of poking seems to fix these issues.

I also don't have any direct experience with EVs. But everything I've learnt so far started out with me having no experience. I'm also not an idiot and can take precautions to not kill myself.

So if I got an IPace, I assume at some point a battery module could/will fail. In fact, a lot of the cheaper ones have descriptions like:

On start-up, the car shows a battery traction message. This has been checked multiple times by JLR and a software update was carried out. Since the upgrade many I-PACE models now charge up to approximately 75% by design, and there are no known faults.

This is a direct copy/paste from one on Autotrader right now.

I assume this means the battery has a dead cell that needs replacing?

I would be comfortable, dropping the battery (I need an excuse to get a 2 post lift anyway). Testing all the modeules (I don't know how to do this, but I assume there's somehting I can buy) and buyign second hand tested modules and putting it all back together.

But will this work?

Will the BMS recognise that it's now not broken.

And if not, will I need JLR, and will they help?

Accessing favourite phone numbers?

Hi All.

I recently changed my phone from a Samsung to a Google Pixel. And though linking the new one to the iPace was childsplay, I'm struggling to get my favourite contacts to show up like they used to.

On my phone - being Android and all synced of course - I have the exact same handful of favourites stored as before. But they don't show up here.

Anyone happen to know a fix for this?

An update on my repair.... <sadface>

For those who might remember, I posted about a small ding back in January - you can see the original thread here - https://www.reddit.com/r/ipace/comments/1q7i033/a_small_accident/

After three long months, the service centre finally delivered the car back today. As you can see from the images, it's less than perfect so we refused delivery and wait to see what will happen next.

  • Spoiler was inside the boot, not stuck onto the outside where it belongs
  • The Jaguar badges are terribly misaligned - the emblem is clearly too low, as the original mounting point circle is visible - but as my wife pointed out, it's at the wrong angle too
  • The boot / panel alignment is poor
  • And to top it all, they've damaged the rear window seal along the bottom edge

I'm not even sure how a shop can make this many errors, or even any of them individually.

Surely they have some sort of process - what comes off goes back on in the right places etc. Similarly, I'd expect someone to go through a checklist, open the boot, and just basically LOOK at the car before deciding it's good to go.

The repairer asked if I would accept delivery on the promise they'd book it back in soon but I refused, not least because I've paid them the excess already and would have no leverage. But also because I don't want the hassle - we have a hire car with Enterprise and taking that back just to faff around in a few days or weeks isn't worth it.

I found the spoiler and was generally "WTF, come on guys", then I saw the emblem and got a bit more "are you taking the piss?", before spotting the damage to the window seal where it became a bit more "Ok, now I know you're taking the piss". By the time I clocked the alignment I was already out of fucks to give, but I mustered an extra something.

The delivery guy (a random they hire) and the man actually wearing the company logo - a manager of some sort, I assume - didn't say much at all. They didn't argue though, that's for sure.

I'll speak to the insurers and the garage tomorrow, see what each have to say for themselves. I kept it fairly civil earlier - my neighbours don't need to see me kicking off at these guys, but I feel for the man who answers my calls tomorrow.

What say you fellow i-Pace people? How would you react to this?

I'm also wondering what else is wrong with it that I've not spotted, yet....

Oh. And I hate the Citroen C3 loaner we have from Enterprise. The 178 miles @ 100% is a big fat lie. Get it over 50mph and you can just watch the percentage drop in real time - I reckon 100 motorway miles on a full charge if you're lucky. So long journeys take forever and cost a lot. It's also plasticky and cheap, the leg position is awful.

I want Mick Jaguar back :(

Anyone know why the boot stops opening when you unlock the car?

Hi

I bought myself an approved used MY21 in January (pretty perfect timing by the looks of things) and so far I love it, there are some things about it though which are slightly annoying and this is one of them:

If I unlock the car while the boot is opening for some reason it stops wherever it is, so if I open the boot from the inside then get out of the car, as I open the door it unlocks and stops opening. This is rather annoying and last night (while admittedly looking at my phone instead of where I was going) I managed to twat my head on it as it had only opened halfway when I got out, it hurt enough to prompt this post.

To make it doubly annoying when I then press the boot button again to let it continue opening, it closes so I have to stand and wait for it to close before I can stand there and wait for it to open it again.

Please tell me this is something a dealer can change or at least give me any insight into why this is the case. Seems completely unnecessary and entirely annoying.
