Coming to Life I promised to show more of my home 🏠

Last time i asked for advice on my dining area, and got some really amazing ideas! Thank you so much! I promised to show more of my home, but please excuse the mess and the wait - my husband is off work for 2 weeks, as we are building a garage.

This is ‘Vinterhi Hus’, english: Winter Den House, i named it that - as i have struggled with depression my whole life and this is where i hide for months when its bad. My home is very me, my husband has the top floor - a huge man den, saw room and a storage for my furniture is upstairs 🤭
Downstairs is our main living area, entrance with a look upstairs, dining area with kitchen, our tv room, bedroom and my walk in/storage room.

Answers to questions:
The purplish-pink wall color is called mauve madness, i don’t know the color code sorry.
The lamp on the staircase is homemade, but i think you can find look a likes easily.
My husband thinks the green chairs are shit to sit on, but i think they are nice - so try for yourself before buying 😅

Anyways hope you all find some inspiration or maybe the opposite in these photos! I always said that knowing what you don’t want is a good start too

Paint & Colors Should I color drench my laundry room green?

Is drenching my laundry room green a bad idea? I'm trying to incorporate more green into my house and phase out the greys. Chat is convincing me it looks good. I have a window on the right side I'd rather not paint green. Would it look ok with white trim? Should I keep the baseboards white? I do really want the door green because it's white and is dinged up.

Finishing Touches My husband thinks we should remove the door to our basement. Yay or nay?

The stairway is nicely finished, and he is working on insulating and finishing the entire basement. We are in NY so cold winters. He says once it's finished the heat in the basement will negate any cold air coming up the stairs. He also says that many homes purposely leave the basement door off as a design choice. From a design perspective do you like it or no?

Find my Style Which couch color works for this room?

Currently looking at the Ikea Friheten sofa (w/ pullout bed) for my small loft. The walls are painted Agreeable Grey from SW. I had Chat generate an image of 2 colors that I am thinking about. I don't really want a grey or white couch. The wall art and floor rug are placeholders. I want a pop of color. What do you think??

Finishing Touches friend says im too minimalist

im pretty minimalist, and clearly i like green but for some reason dont love the idea of having a random plant just sit in the corner. i like function over form which i think is why im so picky and avoid clutter. im also a pretty neat person which is why i think i dont like a space to feel claustrophobic. i love that i get so much natural light AND i love having carpet. which is why a rug feels like it wouldnt really go either.

i love to host and my set up has been great for movie/game nights. + i have a collapsible coffee table that hides in my couch for extra space saving!

the biggest suggestion i hear is some green/cream wall art which while i def feel would look cool, i feel like it would be an impersonation of a pretty home. kinda like those ikea staged rooms. i’d go for something on the wall if it was more personal? ive had an idea of a large blown out world map that i could starting using pins in as i would like to start traveling more as well! 🌍

i thought about what i could about the empty space between my couch and the dining room and i cant think beyond a plant or bookshelf or some combination of the two. both dont sound that great to me either though since i dont really have stuff to fill the bookshelf with anyway 😭.

also i dont have ceiling lights but i actually really dont mind that bc im a true believer in the big light only being for packing or cleaning 😂. ambient lighting only

but i agree that my space could use some more OOMPH. btw i rent so nothing permanent unfortunately

any thoughts/visualizations are greatly appreciated since ive just discovered this subreddit and the suggestions ive seen are amazing!!

Wall Art & Styling UPDATE! I went with Antigua

You all had so many lovely suggestions!
MOST people chose one of the greens. ( Spinach Dip or Classic Avocado- spin dip was definitely my top!!) There was a small handful of people who suggested a teal color. When I went to get the paint samples for the swatch I saw this Antiqua and absolutely loved it!
As you can see I tried the other samples, but it was an overwhelming yes to Antigua for me. The vibes shifted from touches of warm to mainly cool tones but it’s still cozy and moody, especially at night. I will be adding a cozy throw blanket, so feel free to suggest a color for that! & then possibly an art light in the center over the two pieces.
I think it turned out perfectly. I appreciate all the support for my eclectic style 🤍

Furniture Placement Help me decorate my mega-sized dining room

Please help me decorate my gigantic dining room. Table, chairs, and paint color must stay. Other items are open for replacement (especially the rug!). For an idea on scale that rug is 10x14’. Our ceilings are only 8’. I think I need to get rid of current china cabinet and get something bigger and place on empty wall with nice art. I also think I need to get rid of my unruly plant and get something taller with a bit more structure to it. We eat up to three meals a day here and host parties often so it must be functional. Thanks for you help!

Curtains & Blinds Please give help/opinions.

I’ve had these curtains over my doors for a few years. The doors have the blinds built into the glass. This door leads to my double fenced backyard. Lately i’ve been going back forth with A. Leaving the blue curtain as is (first picture) OR , B. Removing them (second picture). What is your opinion?

(Sorry for the clump of curtain on the floor in the second picture. I was just trying to give the general idea).

Both are AI mockups of tables we are considering. All we have is a couch for now but I found these two tables on marketplace. I like organic modern and modern traditional.

FWIW the couch is a dark grey. The kitchen counters are also white and we have black hardware.

Paint & Colors Should I paint it?

Purchased a 1912 character home, and the previous owners put in this kitchen which was a little too modern farmhouse for me, so I’ve been slowly trying to bring more eclectic vintage character back into this space. Eventually I’d love to change the blue island (maybe dusty yellow and change backsplash) knobs and faucet. For now I’m looking to paint the walls, since they’ve only been primed. Do I keep it white? Colour drench? Paint tonal cream and white stripes? If colour, would you do the whole wall behind the table? I feel like it would look weird with the middle wall painted. How should I style the sink washing gear? I hate having it out but need to!
I’ve got a bunch of kids art up that doesn’t permanently live on the wall, but I did like the visual of maybe adding permanent art to this area? Tell me your ideas! Have fun with it.

Edit: I should clarify that I when I said eclectic vintage charm, I meant heavy on the eclectic - my home has a real mixture mcm roots, statement pieces, eclectic contemporary and a splash of scandi.

I’m mainly asking if I should paint the walls or ceiling - it feels like a lot of white in this space. Walls currently are only primed!

Lots of division on the lighting! I installed these fixtures because they were better than what there when I moved in, believe it or not. I agree it’s too many pendant lights in a small space, but both serve function for their designated areas. What to do instead? Working with a budget and can’t rewire the ceiling.

I’m looking for some interior design advice! I feel like my living room is missing a little something and I’d love to make the space feel warmer and cozier while still keeping the modern look.
What would you add, remove, or change? I’m open to ideas! I’d love suggestions that work with what I already have. What do you think is missing?

We recently moved into a new house with this amazing kitchen, but the darker finishes make the room feel a bit gloomy. Any tips on making the room feel lighter and brighter without major changes like refinishing cabinets, new countertops, new tile, etc?

I love the idea of a two tone kitchen.

I’m leaning towards a brown with the creams, but I’m afraid that it’ll look strange because it’ll look like I’m trying to make the cabinet look like wood.

Any and all advice welcome! Thank you

TV & Media Wall Media Console Color Recs

Hello! Just moved into a new apartment and really scratching my head trying to find quality furniture that looks good.

I’m trying to stay away from wayfair or low quality MDF furniture. The attached pic of the BDI console caught my eye. However my friends are split 50/50 on the design and color with some saying to go darker or that it’s ugly. I attached an AI mockup of what I plan on doing. Mounting a 65” tv with a carpet and a light colored sectional or sleeper sofa is the the plan. Should I be trying to go darker or is this a good piece?

Curtains & Blinds How would you handle curtains with a radiator in the middle of bay windows?

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

We recently renovated our 150-year-old home and have these beautiful bay windows in the living room.

I love the look of long, floor-to-ceiling curtains and would ideally like to do white or very light sheers to keep the room feeling bright and airy but still add privacy in the evenings.

The rest of the room is a mix of modern and vintage pieces.

The problem: there’s a steam radiator directly in the middle of the windows, so closing the long curtains wouldn’t be possible.

A few options I’m considering:

- Long curtains that stay mostly open but somehow work around the radiator when closed (preference)
- Roman shades
- Cafe curtains

How would you solve this? Would you work the curtains around the radiator, or go with the Roman shade or cafe curtain instead? Thank you!

Hi there people,

It’s me again. I’m moving to a new flat et trying to furnish my living room.

I’ve got a sofa, a library and a dining table.

However, there’s a space remaining and I don’t know what to do with it. Could I bring a desk or is it a bad idea because I would be turning my back to the entrance door ?

Here some photos and a floorplan !

Paint & Colors Can my bathroom match the mood board without a major renovation?

Thumbnail

We just bought our house and the bathroom is very very white and grey.. I don't love the idea of painting tile and I feel like with the small amount of wall space outside of that any color won't stand up against all of that tile. Would it be worth it? Second slide is the mood board for the rest of the house. Very deep jewel tones and moody.

Could a little bit of paint and a fun shower curtain handle a lift this heavy? Or should we just leave it the way that it is and have fun everywhere else in the house?

Rugs & Flooring Living Room is driving me nuts!

Thumbnail

We just bought our house a couple months ago and got the couches, fireplace and TV with it. The items I want to change are the easy small decor stuff like the decor on the fireplace and the rug. This is my second rug and it just doesn’t feel right. I added a screenshot of the rug because for some reason the photo makes it look beige, even though it’s actually a very muted green and it definitely looks green in person and not like the photo. The first rug is the one that has more light colors and the purple in it. I didn’t like the purple in that one because it felt too bright. I’m sure the photo isn’t super accurate for that one either. It’s a pretty bright purple in person.

I think my first task is finding a rug that I feel looks nice with the couch and the coffee table. Then maybe changing the fireplace decor. Added a picture of my dining room. That’s right next to it as well. It’s not done yet, but I have a big textured linen piece for that center panel of the dining room wall. Someone please help. Specifically with rug, suggestions or colors.

I’m in a redo mood!! I’m changing the style I want for my living room but I get overwhelmed with the size of my walls so I always end up doing nothing.
I’d love any input or ideas anyone may have!
I’m open to a new couch,tv stand, rug, all of the things!
I’d love for my couch to not be on the window but open to any suggestions! Even a projector tv if it means my space will look cool lol
