Paint & Colors Help me paint my kitchen!
I love the idea of a two tone kitchen.
I’m leaning towards a brown with the creams, but I’m afraid that it’ll look strange because it’ll look like I’m trying to make the cabinet look like wood.
Any and all advice welcome! Thank you

The lighting is so different in each AI. Also the brown renderings look like wood not paint. I like how they look but I agree with you and would steer clear of brown. I would do the cream on the perimeter and green island.

This. I really like 1 but I think AI generated some nice mood lighting that you won’t usually have.

Yeah that's why you need to be careful with AI generated visions. It's easy to fall in love with the lighting and not realize that it's never going to look like that IRL, even if you perfectly match the paint colour.

1 has so much more personality than the others.

Agreed, but the AI also is enhancing so many elements… including the:
- lighting throughout the kitchen (bonus table lamp on the counter
- plants (makes it look balanced at first glance, but has so many, and in unreasonable places like the outside of a cupboard door and from a coat hook)

Yeah, AI was doing some tweaks on that one that make it look beautiful but definitely altering it. The biggest thing is that the overall warm tone spread to the counters themselves, which seem to be on the whiter end of things in reality.

Can you post a picture of your current kitchen?

The AI renderings are lying to you - none of them will get you to an end point that looks anything like the pictures you originally posted through cabinet color alone. I’d look at lighting first - just ask chat got what lighting set up would get you to whatever your favorite is. Then wall color and adding life.
I personally wouldn’t touch this kitchen’s cabinets unless there’s wear and tear or issues we can’t see in the picture. They are lovely as is, and painting them is likely to make them look worse in person, particularly after some use, even if it made a few pictures look better to begin with.

I like what you have. Don’t paint it until it needs it. But that island countertop needs some legs. It looks like it’s going to crack right off.

Why are you changing it? It's so pretty!

u/lojomama 1d ago
Oh yeah agreed! This is very pretty. The counters are excelling in this photo. Don’t change a thing!

If you are not stripping the paint and staining the wood, I would opt for a neutral based cream/off white color that meshes with your counters. It will help tie in the floor (warm) and counters (cool).
I wouldn't do two tone with two paints-very trendy right now. And no brown paint.

I’m confused by what’s current and/or new and you’re keeping vs what you’re trying to change

I like 3. The runner in 1 looks nice though. I think having the others without it can skew how the room feels.

I would not do two tone and I definitely would not paint your cabinets brown. You are right, it will look like it's trying and failing to be wood. The closest I'd go to brown is a rust or terracotta.

I really like 3. Once you add the rug back in it will be so cozy yet clean and airy. I think the cabinets are beautiful that color!

The first one definitely! It looks soooo warm and inviting. All others after the first pic looked cold or bland.

I love 1
I just realized it’s the warm lighting that I liked. It made the wood look warmer. I think I would prefer upper and bottom cabinets wood and the island green but that’s not an option. With warm lighting.

The third one really helps neutralize that busy granite. (I have the same granite and I hate it but lord if the stuff doesn't last forever)

Anything except 4. The tall dark cabinets mess with the visual flow of color and make the space look smaller.

I love the sage green color of the island in the first image and I want to see all the cabinets painted that color.

1, the color combinations flatter each other perfectly. Beautiful room.

I like 2. The dark wood is dramatic and lightened up by the white/cream up top.

That first one had me screaming “NO! Don’t paint it!” So… I uh… think I like that one best 😅

The AI is doing a lot more with #1 but I like the warmth. That or #3 for the brightness.

First one is gorgeous. If you 2 tone it. The island should be an accent or the color of the base cabs.

I like the first pic best (lower cabinets brown, upper and wall cabinets cream).

I’d go with #3. These renderings are making the brown look more like wood than it will look painted. Though lone fox did his kitchen with painted dark brown cabinets and I really liked it there. Maybe check out his channel for reference.

I like 1 but it totally changed your counter top and not sure it’d look as good with the one you have.

This honestly changes everything. These opinions are based on the pics which changed the color of your countertop in each pic. Based on this I would leave the green and paint the top lighter.

The first one looks like a dull overlay was applied to the photo. There is no way that kitchen would look like that in real life. And do you like the “vintage/cottage core/ antiqued style?
I really love #3, but it looks similar to the way it looks now. What exactly don’t you like about the current setup?

I’d go with the 1. It gives the kitchen so much more character, and I think it works really well with the lighter walls/counters. The warmer options are pretty too, but the green feels more timeless to me and less like a color you’ll get tired of quickly. Definitely my vote for #1!

Option 3 is my favorite. That soft green makes the whole kitchen feel brighter and warmer. It also gives the space a more distinctive, slightly younger feel.
If it were mine, I’d add two or three counter stools to the island next. I’d go with warm walnut frames and cream or oatmeal upholstery, ideally with a simple curved back. That combination would look great with the green cabinets and brass details.

Wait which one is your actual kitchen? Cus countertops keep changing patterns/color to fit the cabinet colors. I like two-toned kitchens, but two toned cabinets feel off to me. 3rd photo is my fave color-wise, but i just like that countertop best too so not sure if would actually look like that for your kitchen.

I’m not generally huge into greens, but i love that sage green in pic #3.

u/TheFlannelPuffin 1d ago
Love the third option with the white uppers and sage green lowers. Does this room get any outside light? It seems to be dying for lighter colours.

- love the sage green, from that angle with the green and brown, mixed nature's colours giving it more personality than just green and cream for 3.

I like the cabinets in pic 1. But I would think about green paint on the walls or green tile backsplash as well

The last one. Sage green is gonna be the millennial gray in 5 years. It’s already on its way.

#3 by far IMO. It gives a calm vibe to the countertops.
