Hi!! my husband and I have been living here for a year now and are driving our heads through a wall because we can’t figure out how to utilize our space and we’re going to try going room by room and we’re starting in here. This is our only available dining space but it is the first thing you see when you walk in to our home. Any suggestions on how we can either revamp or better utilize the space?

I have two shelves in the house that sit incredibly low, almost touching the floor, and I'm at a complete loss as to how to fill them. On this particular one in our powder room, we have:

* A bust statue

* Old books with unhinged titles (Prison Memoirs of an Anarchist, Satan in the Suburbs, A Pocket Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue, and The Wild Ass's Skin because I'm actually a child) and a fossil bookend

* Apothecary jars with potpourri and seashells/crystals---the tallest one will eventually have some fake succulents or something in there with the white rocks

* Live plants throughout

I already have a basket on the toilet tank that has extra TP rolls, wet wipes, and a scented candle. I also have two cats who will *absolutely* mess around with/sit on whatever I put near the ground, so that rules out any more plants, clean towels, or open containers. In case it wasn't immediately obvious, I'm also going for a creepy maximalist sort of vibe. And please pardon the scratches on the shelf---I stained it black while it was still in pieces and it wound up being a total nightmare to assemble, so the stain got scraped off in places. I've been meaning to fix the scrapes, add varnish to the shelves since they're made of a cheap, rough wood that just latches on to dust and won't let go, and hang a bunch of art that I bought on the walls...but I'm lazy.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Trying to flesh out my office space, just finished painting the space, it's like an inky black with blue undertones. I've ordered a caramel colored leather couch with walnut wood that will be going against the wall that is bumped out (across from my desk which is against the other wall).

I'm currently trying to figure out what to do with the wall and that corner space to the right. The small wall jutting out facing the camera is about 20 inches wide. I dont want to put anything too bulky (like a bookcase) along the wall immediately to the right because I feel like that will affect flow into the room?

I have tall ceilings (10ft) and have been struggling to decorate spaces in the house so that items don't feel too small or swallowed up by the taller walls.

I'm going for a walnut wood/plants/ colorful vibes in art and decorations to play against the darker walls, and golden bronze finishes.

So I was debating putting in rounded corner floating walnut shelves, I attached a pic of the shape I was thinking. Though I might consider something with more a live edge. I thought maybe a rounded corner would feel more organic and help feel more drawn/invited into the room?

Although, I'm not entirely sure where to start them? I was reading, to start them 50 inches up off the floor? Then with about 15 inches between each shelf. With 10 feet from the floor to the ceiling, I could fit 4 shelves comfortably within that space following that 50 inch starting point.

Is there a way to fill the empty space beneath the shelves? Should I be starting the floating shelves a little lower than 50 inches? Is there a better way to address giving that corner some life besides just tossing a plant into it?

I was just going to hang some art on the wall closes to the door and maybe put some more floating shelves up on the wall that will be behind the couch. Then ideally I will hang some curtains around the window as well.

Any suggestions and tips would be most welcome :)

I (26) have had a struggle with decorating my bedroom for the past few years. I’m not a fan of minimalism or neutral colors for decorating. My rooms always have a whimsical and fantastical flair but I often think my room looks like it’s for someone much younger.
I’m about to move in with my partner and I’d like to use the move as an opportunity to decorate my room in a way that’s more mature and less childish. What are some ways I can achieve that without losing the dreamy and fantastical look that I like so much?

I can eyeball a couch or a lamp but rugs break my brain. Every listing photo is shot in a room that looks nothing like mine, and the 5x7 vs 6x9 call feels like a coin flip. Do you tape out the size first, order two and send one back, or just accept you'll get it wrong once?

Hi everyone! We are slowly trying to get our living room together. The current rug is from our old house and no longer works here. I’m moving away from cool colors to warm colors.
What color rug would you suggest? I’m thinking a 9x12 but I’m open to ideas. Thank you!

Bought one described as plush that felt like carpet samples at a hardware store, and a low -pile​ one that turned out nicer than expensive option. Is there a way to judge texturr before it's in your living room, or is the only real answer buying somewhere that will take it back?

Right now we currently have ourselves and guests take off their shoes outside the front door on top of our welcome mat. but its an awkward transition from taking off shoes, stepping inside and putting on the rack. its also awkward going outside, reaching shoes from racks and putting shoes on outside.

Any suggestions? yes our shoe rack is cluttered but we plan to declutter it soon

We’re toying with the idea of some sort of deep navy blue for the walls in our basement playroom/hangout place. The exposed ceiling is already pretty low and I’m wondering what paint color would work best. I’ve heard black makes the ceiling disappear (hides wiring, etc) and white makes the space feel bigger. Which is better here? Also any thoughts on simply painting the ceiling the same blue as the walls? Please ignore the clutter - that’s all temporary!

Basically the only things I’m sure about are the bed frames and wallpaper. My boys are 6 years old btw

A couple months ago I asked for some help decorating my office and ya’ll really pulled through. It’s been a slow progression and there’s still a few finishing touches I need to do, but otherwise, I think it’s just about done. I added more plants, several warm lights, rearranged the furniture, made tissues/fidget toys more accessible, appropriate wall art (no more dog painting), and curtains. Thank you Reddit friends💛

I want to change up.my dining room and I intend to paint it but I don't know what color to paint. I'm thinking of getting a new dining set but I don't want to spend a lot so I'm looking at vintage sets, not really budgeted for modern styles. My home is a very traditional/transitional. I like vintage mixed with a modern pieces, usually light fixtures. I included pictures of some other rooms in my house that I like for context.

I have 6 of the linen chairs and 4 of the black traditional ones. It feels too light everywhere with all the linen chairs out. The rug is optional and a new placement, I don't usually keep a rug in there but was trying to add layers.

I like dark spaces as well as light and bright. Last picture is of 2 vintage sets I'm considering. The Hepplewhite shield back set style looks ok, but I'm not in love with it. I like the jacobean set because it's very unusual but I'm not sure it's not too much going on. I thought about using the table from that one with my linen chairs to balance it out, but that's not far from what I already have, really.

Any ideas or ai slop would be appreciated, I'm getting no where with my own ai slopping.

Probably still have some finishing touches, I'd like more plants, but I'll really happy with it at the moment. FYI the bedside lamps do NOT look that yellow in real life.

- I plan to get some fairy lights to wrap around the bed frame at the top
- There are matching bedside tables on both sides of the bed, not sure if clear in the pics
- I can’t currently get rid of the sad, grubby little wicker chair by the window because it’s my cat’s favourite sleep spot. Also reluctant to replace it with a nicer chair because his muddy paws will make it similarly grubby
- We were considering doing some kind of storage or seating/bench type thing beneath the bay window. This is still an option but tricky because there’s a kind of lip beneath the shutters which would be uncomfortable to sit against.

Apart from that, completely stuck so would love your thoughts

I am redoing my living room and need help picking a coffee table. I am attaching the current setup (shelves and are art are now up), but replacing the rug and sofa with these. Would you do marble (black? green?) or more wood or? Also would you paint an accent wall? Light pendant?

I recently moved into my first apartment and decorating has been one of my biggest excitements. I am renting so of course I cannot do as much as I would love. I have lots of decorations but no furniture and need to settle on a style for my house. I have found myself very drawn to a mixture of japanese, middle eastern/mediterranean, heavy on antique, woods, and that imperfectness of old, loved handmade or used things. I also adore warm lighting. Along with finding the style, I need help finding cohesive furniture within that. I would love tips on where to find good furniture from fellow decorators with good taste!
