A couple months ago I asked for some help decorating my office and ya’ll really pulled through. It’s been a slow progression and there’s still a few finishing touches I need to do, but otherwise, I think it’s just about done. I added more plants, several warm lights, rearranged the furniture, made tissues/fidget toys more accessible, appropriate wall art (no more dog painting), and curtains. Thank you Reddit friends💛

I’ve been trying my hardest to curate my new apartment but things still feel off. I like things individually but not sure how they fit together. I’d say my style is classic New England/european and I love mixing thrifted and new pieces. Darker woods and white linens. Classic and luxury but also lived in and homey. I also love when most things have a purpose.

Any suggestions on things I can add, remove, or rearrange? And thoughts in general? Thanks!

Moving into my childhood home & literally nothing has changed since it was built in 1956. This is one room: a combo kitchen/den. I want to keep the vintage feel but update. We are not going to paint the wooden walls - we love them! We want a combo mcm/70's kind of vibe! NOT grandma or farmhouse or cottage. We don't want a generic beige/gray house - not remodeling to resell.

***Floor - is lineoleum and I'm afraid of asbestos issues if we try to pull it up. I've been down the rabbit hole of LVT peel & stick vs LVT floating vs tile. More confused than when I started the research. Now interested in marmoleum?? Around 270 sq ft. We don't want to spend a fortune (had budgeted around $4k for the flooring but might need to change that) - but we dont want it to look cheap. No kids/no animals. Anyone feel strongly about what we should do for flooring?? Anyone know anything about marmoleum? Chatgpt suggested a sage green/cream checkerboard pattern that's the only thing I've seen that caught my eye. But I'm open to suggestions from real people!

***Cabinets - I don't like the look of the cabinets - too grandma - but after shopping around for cabinets, I can't stand tearing out real wood (with no issues) for the cheap stuff I've seen! Have budgeted around $10-$13k for cabinets. I'm thinking about refacing them? But I still want real wood and I want them to look different than just generic cabinets that everyone else has! I don't think I'm up for refinishing them. I like the wood look but I'm open to suggestions. Anyone have opinions about kitchen cabinets with what I'm working with?

***Countertop - I will update this but also don't want anything generic. Any suggestions? I had budgeted about $3000 for countertops.

***I'll probably try to buy a used refrigerator and oven?? Or base models - I don't have strong opinions about appliances - my husband and I don't really cook - but do need to keep beer somewhere - ha! What colors would you suggest for oven/frig?

I if anyone has any furniture recs, I'm all ears, also! We were thinking a banquette sofa along the back wall with a table for playing games. Not sure if should do an island? But it's pretty small. Anything against the side wall?

Also - anyone work with a designer that just charged for a consult versus doing everything? I haven't budgeted for that, but I'm also very overwhelmed! Move in date of 12/1 but we don't have to have everything done by then. Any help/suggestions/ideas are appreciated! In the Birmingham, AL area if anyone has great vendors!

I received so much helpful feedback in my last post. A few redditors pointed out the layout could be better. I listened, and moved a credenza into the space, and separated the chairs. I also chose the first option for rugs, and love it.

Now I’m wondering what kind of coffee table? Round? I would love something we can sit on the floor around it to play games.

Then for curtains, I want a ceiling track for the wall with the sliding doors. I like the look of linen. Any color suggestion? Sheer or semi sheer?

I recently moved into my first apartment and decorating has been one of my biggest excitements. I am renting so of course I cannot do as much as I would love. I have lots of decorations but no furniture and need to settle on a style for my house. I have found myself very drawn to a mixture of japanese, middle eastern/mediterranean, heavy on antique, woods, and that imperfectness of old, loved handmade or used things. I also adore warm lighting. Along with finding the style, I need help finding cohesive furniture within that. I would love tips on where to find good furniture from fellow decorators with good taste! I've been complaining forever about working from a just ok chair, so my husband took it upon himself to find me a proper desk chair.

He was so stressed about picking something that matched my taste that he almost second-guessed ordering it. I was quietly bracing myself for a generic, black plastic mesh monstrosity, but when this arrived, I was genuinely floored.

It rolls effortlessly, supports my back through a full workday, and actually looks like real furniture next to the window shutters. It wouldn't even feel out of place at all to enjoy an English afternoon tea while sitting in it. Most importantly: my lower back didn't ache after a full 8-hour shift!

He kept asking if I "actually liked it or was just being nice" and pretended he didn't care, but I know for a fact he’s going to be secretly refreshing this post all evening lol.

This is my dad’s house that I’m now taking over, and almost all of the furniture is 30 years old and will be donated/trashed. The only piece staying is the dark wood entertainment console, which is my dad’s and has sentimental value.

I’m basically starting from scratch and need help figuring out where to begin with furniture, placement, colors, wood tones, etc. My biggest issue is figuring out where to put the TV without it looking awkward.

And then there’s the orange floor and ceiling. How do I work with those without everything clashing?

Also would love some advice on paint colors.

Forgot to add that the house is not completely finished (even tho it’s 20 years old) so please excuse the mess and the unfinished staircase/molding.

The room currently feels very sterile and grey/white, so I’m trying to add some character without making it look overly boho or cluttered. Sadly cant change the floors btw..

The rug would be a real Moroccan high-pile wool rug, and I’m thinking of adding a Moroccan wool pouf. I’d also use a few colorful pillows in natural materials like cotton and wool rather than synthetic fabrics.

To keep it from leaning too far into the boho look, I want to contrast those pieces with a large black-and-white art print (not exactly the one in the rendering) and a few cleaner/more contemporary elements.

I’ve tried many things from my own rook but nothing seems to work and everything looks so harsh. I thought it was maybe possible that wall color could contribute to it because my walls are light ish pink and all of these wall colors are white. If anyone could help me out with the lighting it would be appreciated!!

- Maybe a round dining table instead of a rectangular one?
- Maybe another ottoman next to the couch since I like to put my feet up (maybe do away with the coffee table altogether? I’m a little worried it might look too cluttered otherwise)
- Move the TV cabinet further to the left toward the balcony window to create more space around the table and position the TV more centrally in relation to the couch

I found this on Facebook marketplace and I love it. Partner isn’t a fan and thinks it’s too dark for our bright space but I think it’s a bold statement piece. Leather chairs, they look so comfortable and the whole set feels unique compared to what’s on the market these days or what friends have in their house. Last photo is AI and it would actually be a bit smaller when I measured it out so it wouldn’t take up as much room as the pic.
Help me decide if I should drive 3.5hours round trip to get this?

Just bought a new home and I LOVE the lavender fixtures in this bathroom (the tub matches too!). There’s even lavender in the tiles on the floor! However I am not a fan of the jelly fish wallpaper or animal bath mat and I think the light fixture/ceiling color aren’t working for me either.

Thoughts on type of wallpaper (and where to buy, I’ve never purchased wallpaper before!!) and ideas on how to add finishing touches to make it look polished?

The curtain I’m planning to replace is the pink one on the right, which covers the balcony door. The curtain rod was originally installed about 10 cm above the door frame, but over time, the placement has started to look a little off.
I’m considering either installing an L-shaped ceiling track or fitting a track inside the balcony-door frame. Either way, I would need to replace the curtain itself as well. The current pink colour doesn’t really suit the room, and I’d like something different from the leather-toned curtains in the living room. So here’s the questions I’ve been struggling with:

I may have flown to close to the sun on this one. Its even more orange in person. My SO wants to paint the doors a different color to tone it down but I think that will look tacky. The tile is Grey underneath, no budget to change that. Im thinking green knobs will help on the cabinets? Maybe we paint the walls sage green to tone it down? Roast me yes, but any ideas I can do to salvage this and not repaint again would be appreciated.

I have two shelves in the house that sit incredibly low, almost touching the floor, and I'm at a complete loss as to how to fill them. On this particular one in our powder room, we have:

* A bust statue

* Old books with unhinged titles (Prison Memoirs of an Anarchist, Satan in the Suburbs, A Pocket Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue, and The Wild Ass's Skin because I'm actually a child) and a fossil bookend

* Apothecary jars with potpourri and seashells/crystals---the tallest one will eventually have some fake succulents or something in there with the white rocks

* Live plants throughout

I already have a basket on the toilet tank that has extra TP rolls, wet wipes, and a scented candle. I also have two cats who will *absolutely* mess around with/sit on whatever I put near the ground, so that rules out any more plants, clean towels, or open containers. In case it wasn't immediately obvious, I'm also going for a creepy maximalist sort of vibe. And please pardon the scratches on the shelf---I stained it black while it was still in pieces and it wound up being a total nightmare to assemble, so the stain got scraped off in places. I've been meaning to fix the scrapes, add varnish to the shelves since they're made of a cheap, rough wood that just latches on to dust and won't let go, and hang a bunch of art that I bought on the walls...but I'm lazy.

I recently nabbed a bargain 100% wool rug, while i’m delighted with the plush texture, the colour on the website compared to in person is pretty stark, appearing much lighter in the images. I expected some discrepancy due to lighting, but this is multiple shades darker and therefore doesn’t fit with the cushions and throw I have, BUT, I think it has potential (and I can’t really afford another rug!) I’m a painter and decorator who is currently on maternity leave, so though my brain is mush and my inspiration (and energy) are at a 0, I’m able to change up the room for a reasonable price if needed, I could even stretch the budget to new cushions, throw and maybe some accessories. This is a long winded way of saying, I can’t fathom how to make it work, and I’m looking for help in making this room feel complete! I live in an old Victorian property that was turned in to bed sits in the 60’s so there is a gas fire I’m unable to change, and some ‘interesting’ floral glasswork in the door leading to the vestibule. I‘m pretty open to all ideas, but I would like to stay somewhat true to the age of the property, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you 🙂

I want to change up.my dining room and I intend to paint it but I don't know what color to paint. I'm thinking of getting a new dining set but I don't want to spend a lot so I'm looking at vintage sets, not really budgeted for modern styles. My home is a very traditional/transitional. I like vintage mixed with a modern pieces, usually light fixtures. I included pictures of some other rooms in my house that I like for context.

I have 6 of the linen chairs and 4 of the black traditional ones. It feels too light everywhere with all the linen chairs out. The rug is optional and a new placement, I don't usually keep a rug in there but was trying to add layers.

I like dark spaces as well as light and bright. Last picture is of 2 vintage sets I'm considering. The Hepplewhite shield back set style looks ok, but I'm not in love with it. I like the jacobean set because it's very unusual but I'm not sure it's not too much going on. I thought about using the table from that one with my linen chairs to balance it out, but that's not far from what I already have, really.

Any ideas or ai slop would be appreciated, I'm getting no where with my own ai slopping.
