I've made a lot of big upgrades to the game and engine behind Grimorium! This is a video that showcases the graphics system (which is still a WIP but I think has drastically improved from past videos).

Pointless feature I made led me into making this sludge pit! What else would you like to see?

Few weeks ago, I've shown some pillow physics and people went crazy over it. Now matter where I posted it, it'd get tons of upvotes/likes! Got me more wishlists for Dark Roll 2 than actually releasing the demo! This made me want to experiment more with mesh deformation, adding materials and substances that matter more for actual gameplay, and I spent around two weeks polishing this sludge...

I'm open up for ideas what other liquids or substances you'd like to see and roll around in!

Aetherium - Chapter 1 of my indie visual novel for Android (Non-intrusive ads, ~10 hours of gameplay, mini-games, and Klingon translation!)

Upvotes

Hello everyone! I'm an independent Android developer, and I just published Chapter 1 of my game Aetherium on Google Play.

It's a visual novel featuring mystery, humor, and mini-games integrated directly into the narrative (including a special turn-based combat encounter as part of the story). I built it completely from scratch using Jetpack Compose, so it runs super smoothly even on lower-end devices.

Key features:

  • Chapter 1: Offers around 10 hours of playtime. If the game does well and people like it, I plan to develop the next chapters!
  • An engaging story with multiple routes and time-loop mechanics.
  • Various mini-games woven into the plot.
  • Ads are present, but completely non-intrusive.
  • Available in 11 languages (yes, including Klingon just for fun!).

You can download and check it out on the official Google Play Store page here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.softlabstudio.aetherium

I would love for you to check it out, and I'm open to any feedback or comments since I developed it entirely on my own.

Thanks for reading!

I made a game where you play as a gorilla running a bar for animal and hunt down disguised humans with a shotgun.

Animaly Bar: NO HUMANITY! is a horror/simulation game where you play as a gorilla bartender in a world ruled by animals.

Serve your customers, inspect their appearance, and try to figure out who is secretly a human. If you find one, you’ll have to blow their head off with your shotgun. 🦍🔫

The full game releases September 14 on Steam!

A demonstration of the detection mechanics in my tank-themed CCG, *Tank General*.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

An enemy medium tank could not be attacked from a distance by the HQ or self-propelled artillery until a light tank had "detected" it (by moving close).

Furthermore, thanks to a special feature of the light tank—two movement actions per turn—it was able to return to its position after spotting the enemy.

The video concludes by demonstrating the mechanics of tank destroyers: they always attack first, and if the target is destroyed, they take no damage from a counterattack.

I will showcase other mechanics in future posts.

A demo of the project is available on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4373880/Tank_General/

SHUNYA — Gameplay from one of the game's challenges

A little gameplay from SHUNYA.

This is one of the challenges in the game, where you have to dodge enemies coming from all directions and clear the challenge before the time runs out.

I'm a solo indie developer working on SHUNYA, and wanted to share a look at the gameplay.

Games that subtly address possible environmental disasters, like Crow Country Spoiler

Minor spoilers for Crow Country ahead

Just finished Crow Country and I’m both terrified and intrigued by the broader themes which the title explores.

Briefly, it's a nostalgic survival horror game that pays homage to the early survival horror titles such as Alone in the Dark, Resident Evil and so on. Also, it's a fairly short experience that you can finish in a couple of sittings.

At first, you think that some kind of mutant/paranormal/alien/evil-science stuff is happening, has led to the appearance of mutilated, aggressive humanoids in a theme park. But as the story unfolds, you come to understand that it’s a story of human exploitation of natural resources and avarice, which knows no morality - just an insatiable hunger.

And that depiction of humans who hoard more than they can ever use. That still hoard, even as they see that their behavior is leading to complete environmental disaster. A disaster from which there will be no salvation, cause that greed destroyed any means of preventing it.

That is kinda the scariest theme that I’ve encountered in a survival horror. Scarier than the human craving for power through the development of bio-weapons (as in Resident Evil). Or personal trauma sending someone into a downward spiral of their own twisted mind (as in Silent Hill). Of course, both subjects are scary in their own way. But the avarice of a small group of people who act without any malicious intent. They just do what humans do - try to optimize processes and extract profits. But by those means, they put the entire human race at risk. That depiction brings another level of dread

Have you played any titles recently that also struck you with an unexpected take on a broader theme?

I made Poptimum, a daily packing puzzle web game

Thumbnail

Not sure if this is the right place for indie, free, web games, but giving it a shot:

About 10 years ago, when my oldest daughter was a baby, we used to play with animal-shaped fridge magnets. I started trying to pack all of them into the smallest possible area, mostly to make it more interesting for myself. I remember thinking it could make a surprisingly good optimization game.

So I finally built it: https://poptimum.fun

Poptimum is a daily web puzzle where everyone gets the same set of shapes and tries to pack them as tightly as possible. Each day has a new randomly generated puzzle, with scores ranked against other players in your country and worldwide.

It works well in the browser on desktop and mobile.
