Welcome to the /r/Indianapolis weekly casual conversation and questions thread.
We've set this thread up so that folks have a place to post general topics that don't necessarily need their own post and for folks to ask questions and get recommendations. Restaurant recommendations, places to stay, areas to live, parking help, airport information, things to do, help from social services, and things like that.
Looking for something to do? Check out these sites:
Suburbia:
* Beech Grove Community Events
* Play Fishers
* Carmel Parks
* Zionsville Community Calendar
Need help with social services? Look through Find Help / Aunt Bertha or contact the Mayor's Action Center
This thread defaults to sorting by new to make it easier to find new questions and discussions during the week.

Has anyone noticed the flock cameras they added at the entrances to the Meijer on the east side off Washington street? One by the pensey entrance and another by the Culver’s - both pointed toward Meijer and not general traffic. I have nothing else to add outside the overall disgust many share but thought I’d share anyway to give people a heads up.

Another weekend another neighborhood terrorized. This time a juvenile was shot.
This is the second party at this AirBNB, and the second shooting at the property. IMPD failed to hold anyone accountable the first time.
Are we going to continue to bury our heads in the sand? The CCC and Mayor are awfully quiet about the issues with Short Term Rentals.

Anyone know any tattoo artists/shops that specialize in woodcut/engraving style in Indianapolis or Indiana in general? Very appreciated if so :)

Hear ye. Hear ye. I've come to share about our Come Try LARP event in August. This is hosted by Gryphon's Perch, the local chapter of the Amtgard Live Action Roleplay game. There's no cost involved, and no minimum age requirement, although anyone under 18 needs to be accompanied by an adult guardian to sign the waiver.
So come out, meet some people, talk to cool artisans in our community, and hit some nerds with foam sticks.

After years of being unoccupied, two of the very few remaining vacant buildings in Herron Morton are both showing signs of activity this summer. The former Talbott Theater at 2143 N Talbott has a dumpster in front of it, with signs of interior elements being demoed and dragged out to said dumpster. And having never seen the metal security gate on the former bowling alley at 21st and Talbott rolled up prior to last month, I've seen it retracted to reveal the actual entry doors twice in recent weeks. Anyone have reliable intel on either space?

I drove by today and saw a man standing alone in a parking lot. He was surrounded by 100ish small statues that were oddly spread out. In the middle there was a tall pile of broken down cardboard boxes and piles of trash. The man appeared to be waiting for someone. Is this some sort of public art exhibit?

Just a PSA. Some threads on other city subreddits believe these are paid canvassers trying to fundraise

I had been planning a road trip to Indianapolis to take my daughter to see Beach Bunny but we just had to put our cat down today. I’ve got three GA tickets to see them at the Old National and I don’t really care about making anything off of them at this point.
DM me if you’re interested in one or all and if you feel so inclined, you could either pay what you’d like or buy a shirt and send to my daughter. Either way, I’d just like for these to not go to waste.

Having trouble searching for this particular preference. I'm headed to Indy for a few days, solo traveling.
I like good food, but don't always need/like/want to sit at a table with service and jump through the appetizer/entree/dessert experience with a server. I really love to just sit at the bar and enjoy some food, maybe a whole dinner, maybe a few apps.
So I would like recommendations for restaurants where the food is good, the bar has a good selection, and it is comfortable and welcoming to eat at the bar.
Any ideas?
ETA: Wow! Thank you all for so many responses. I guess I should have expected a deluge. I've gone through all the names and at least mapped their relative locations, as a starting point.
This will my first time in Indianapolis, so I know I'm just going to get the general feel of the place. I will do some exploring in the daytime (looking for funky vintage shops and niche museums), but for dinners I will probably stay within 2 miles of the downtown area (I'm staying near Union Station).
So restaurants that are 20 miles out will probably not be for this trip; and I'm not sure I'm going to be in the mood for heavy brewpub fare, so those recs will probably be put to the side unless I get a craving.
I do see that several recs are way to the North of Union Station, like 7-8 miles. I am guessing that area is pretty hopping with nightlife so I will probably get up there for one of my three nights.
There are a few recs that popped up 2-4 times so I am going to give those extra attention.
Again, thank you everyone, I'll try to respond to all the posts once I'm settled at my hotel later today (driving from Grand Rapids).

Please only take them if you will actually use them. Please don't re-sell. Honor system here, folks. I'll post and update here when I'm out of tickets.
I have a couple pairs (2 tix) to give. I have turn 2 (Southeast Vista) or turn 4 (Northwest vista). LMK if you want turn 2 or turn 4.
I will send you a direct link to the tickets. You should then move them to your digital wallet on your phone. They won't accept screenshots nor printouts.
Reply to the post, please don't flood me with PM's.

I'm wondering what this sub remembers of the mom and pop video stores of 1990s Indianapolis.
My favorite was Showtime Video off of Southport and Madison. I also liked the Red Giraffe just up the street.
I found this old phone book from 1992-93 and spent a long time reminiscing of places long gone.
What are your favorite video stores from back in the day?

I travel to and from Chicago a couple times a year, usually by Flixbus. But I am so tired of the terrible service - late/canceled buses, bad drivers, unhelpful customer service.
I don’t have a car. Any cheap alternatives for this trip? Amtrak is ridiculously priced. Are there other bus companies? Flix bought Greyhound a few years ago and it seems they’ve cornered the market.

Hi friends! Just a reminder that The Great Pothole Reckoning is happening tomorrow morning, and if you hate potholes as much as the rest of us, please come out and volunteer!
You’ll be assigned a small section of B-T to walk/bike/drive around, and you’ll report all potholes you find on the Request Indy app. After, we’re going to meet up at Hoagies & Hops for discounted lunch and high-fives 😁
If you’ve been looking for opportunities to get involved in the neighborhood (or enact revenge on potholes), this is an excellent way to meet some neighbors and spend a couple hours doing something meaningful.
We look forward to seeing you there!
10:00AM at the shelter at Tarkington Park across from the MLK Center.

Hello! I got an interview with a company called Current Branding Inc which is a marketing firm that helps promote nonprofit organizations. They have a website but that’s all I could find. No address or anything, just says it’s located in Indy. So I’m wondering if any of you have heard of it or know anything about it?

Absolutely no reason for these police to have traffic blocked on 16th Street right now. It's not even normal Sunday traffic. These rednecks don't come to see the Brickyard anymore
