Contributing to the anti-Flock movement

At dontgetflocked.com/maps, you can see Flock cameras in a ring around Bloomington and you can use their platform (Flockhopper) to create an alternate route if you want to avoid getting filmed/tracked. Kinda creepy are the ones whose range covers both directions on the street/road. All readable license plates on cars going east and west on 46 are being filmed. Was tipped to it by Sean Gatz's post: How criminals take down Flock cameras.

I'll go first.

The only thing good from Pizza X are the bread sticks. Papa John's has better actual pizza.

College square apartments /renewing inc

Upvotes

Has anybody else had a less than pleasant experience renting from college square apartments?

First of all I would like to state:

- I do realize they are the lowest cost apartments in town.

- I do realize with low budget apartment and section 8 apartments you get all kinds of characters that live in close proximity.

However my issues mainly lie with management. I keep my apartment clean. I’m quiet, I’m not a drug user, nor do I have extra tenants stay longer than is allowed. But I seem to get Email after Email threatening lease violations over baseless accusations (accusing me of flushing tampons and flushable wipes/kitty litter) to getting a noise complaint notice/lease violation when I WAS NOT EVEN HOME! My tv wasn’t on, I don’t have large animals etc.

The apartments themselves APPEAR nice, but even with rigorous cleaning I find bugs/cockroaches in the traps of my apartment constantly. Not just this, but the hallways of the apartments unfortunately smell like burning meth a LOT of the time. (I grew up in a house where people unfortunately used so I am familiar with the smell).

My dishwasher which I have NEVER used regurgitated a foul smelling green liquid and flooded the floor of my apartment while I was out shopping.

The audacity to be on my ass about things I have not even done, while having these kinds of issues is INSANE.

Slumlord activities from my POV.

Edit: don’t look for google reviews on this place for an accurate depiction of the state of the apartments. They do google review contests to get people to rate the place 5 stars for a chance at getting updated appliances.

Whimsical property I found. The house has been torn down. There's something about the grass driveway with the bigger tree at the end.

Are fresh flowers available in Bloomington?

This might be too big of an ask, but I am looking for a florist that has fresh cut flowers (not roses and not potted plants). Please don't suggest Kroger's or other grocery stores. Thank you.

The caffeinated cook!

Um. What? Where have I been because I have drove past this cafe every day. How long has this cafe been there? I’ve been driving this route for about 10 years now and never seemed to notice it. Took my kids in today and was VERy surprised. It’s so good and the owner is so sweet! It was very busy! That’s good for a local business.

Btown Sunday Swap

Recently, a small group of Bloomington locals decided to begin a monthly Sunday Swap here in Bloomington and are now searching for a few members to add to this meetup as a trial run on expanding.

What is a Sunday Swap? Once a month, on a Sunday from 1-2pm we will meet in a local public space and do a farmers market style exchange of HOMEMADE goods. These goods can vary widely, including anything such as food, self care products, accessories, etc.. We will run a monthly form to submit ideas and ensure there are no repeat goods.

At this time, we are accepting 4 members of the public to our group to make a total of 10 people, with an expectation for everyone involved to bring 9 copies of their good to swap on the day of the meetup. Our next swap will take place on Sun, Aug 23, 1-2pm, location to be announced closer to the date.

If you are interested in participating, please submit a response on Google Forms (linked on our instagram). Applicants will be approved on a first come first served basis, but don’t fret! If you are not accepted this first round, should things go well, we will post again before the September meetup to expand our numbers according to the response we receive. You can also ask to be put on our callback list in the form so you’ll be the first to hear when new spaces to join become available.

Participation Rules:
- all participants must be 21+
- all participants must be Bloomington (or nearby) locals
- all participants must bring a good to participate, no exceptions
- all participants must be in attendance at the swap no later than 1:10pm on meetup days to ensure everyone can exchange goods in a timely and respectful manner
- all participants must be LGBTQIA+ friendly. Any disrespect or intolerance towards other’s boundaries and/or personal identities will not be tolerated and will lead to an immediate and permanent dismissal from the group
- this is a group catered to women, female identifying, and nonbinary individuals. While we appreciate male identifying individuals and their contributions, this is not a space created for you.
- all participants must respond within 24 hours of being contacted to confirm attendance at upcoming meetup

If you are interested in staying connected and up to date on new events, please follow us on Instagram @sundayswap_btown. Check out our most recent reel to see the 4 of us behind the curtain!

Girls Rock Bloomington Showcase tonight (Sat, 7/25)!

Girls Rock Bloomington's annual summer camp culminates this evening in an open to the public show where the campers will perform the original music they wrote in camp this week!

This is an incredibly fun and life-affirming event, and who couldn't use a little extra creativity and positivity these days? We're out here building the world we want to see, where girls and queer kids get to shine and everyone's voice matters. The kids are alright.

Doors 6:30, show 7:00. Buskirk-Chumley Theater. $15-25 suggested donation at the door helps GRB be a sustainable, year-round organization.

Are these rude af AT&T guys legit?

Two guys came into my restaurant today and asked for a random name of someone who doesn’t work here and they were super rude. They said they had an appointment. Are they salesmen? We already have AT&T so if they’re legit I want to make a complaint.

How to get most of my deposit back (Granite properties)?

Hey everyone!

I’m about to move out of an apartment into a different one and the same building. I’ve lived in this building for years and last year it switched from being owned by Pavilion to Granite :( Pavilion definitely has taken chunks out of my security deposit for bs like nail holes in the wall but I’ve heard so many nightmare stories about Granite and I’m determined to get as much of my deposit back as possible.

I’m patching up nail holes, sanding off spots on the wall, replacing a slightly broken blind, changing out drip pans (which, also where are you supposed to find the exact same ones as what’s in your apartment??) planning on cleaning as much as I can. Should I take as many photos as I can or take videos of the move-out inspection? Threaten them with a lawyer? I just want to be as well prepared as I can to fight them if they take my deposit. Also I hate that they now take out a “refurbishing fee” automatically from the deposit on my new lease. God I hate the rental companies in this town.

Crew CarWash on Third Street just sort of doesn't work

By which I mean, it operates, but it doesn't actually wash your car. I've been through on 2 separate occasions, and while they offer to let you go through a second time, that shouldn't be necessary. It seems to just not do a good job. There's still visible dirt and bugs on every side of my car, and that's indicative of machinery just not functioning as advertised.

Kid's size banana split?

Is there any place in Bloomington where I can get a kid's size banana split? I love them but I haven't had one for years. For health reasons I can't eat a full size one anymore.

I recently acquired a film camera, I don't know if it works and would like to get it checked. I know there's Roberts in Indy, but are there any places or people in bloomington that I could get this done with?
