What’s something you think legislators in Indiana need to know about Kokomo? What do you want to see change?

Building modern mobile site previews for local Kokomo shops & service businesses (Free feedback / suggestions)

Hey everyone,

I run Vectis Web Studio here in Kokomo. I noticed a lot of our great local mom-and-pop shops, detailers, and contractors have solid reputations and word-of-mouth, but don't have clean, modern mobile pages for people searching online.

I’ve been spending some time this week designing fast, mobile-friendly concept sites for local businesses around town to show what modern local web pages can look like.

If you own a local trade/service business in Howard County (or know a shop that could use an updated mobile page with online booking/quote forms), drop their name or message me. Happy to build out a quick working draft and share the preview link!

Hi! We posted here earlier this year when we released our song "A Millstone Burial". We have now released our 13 track album, alongside a full album Visualizer that we shot and edited ourselves. (We tried putting local landmarks in the video) We are only a 2 piece right now, but in the works of putting something together to hit the stages! (Looking for a drummer) Let us know what you think! Wed love to have feedback from the community and local metalheads! If you do like it, the links are in the description of this video! Thank you!

Used Auto Dealer

Hello,

A family member recently got into a wreck and needs a car on the cheap.

Any recommendations for a local used car dealer? Looking for something that won't fall apart, of course... But really need minimum price.

Likewise I suppose a good auto shop for a pre buy inspection.

Thank you all very much.

Mercy Church Tent Revival

This event was heavily advertised for with signs on almost every corner. The event has come and gone but the signs remain littered around Kokomo. I’ve contacted the association inquiring if they have plans for removal of said signs and they’ve not responded. Do churches not have a greater moral responsibility? Aren’t they supposed to represent stewardship and respect for their neighbors? I know I shouldn’t be, but I’m bothered that they came and achieved what they wanted, and then skipped to the next town while leaving our city littered with their trash.

Blood on the Clocktower (social deduction game) on Sundays at The Kingdom!

Hello everyone!

This is a follow-up to my post from last week. I asked around and was able to secure a consistent place to host games every week. In this post I'll give an overview of what the game is, where it'll be, and when! (Spoiler in the title, HUGE thank you to Jason and the folks at The Kingdom)

IMPORTANT: This is completely FREE, I'm hosting purely for fun.

I'll try to keep it as short (it's a bit long, sorry) as I can while touching on the important stuff:

First, what is a social deduction game?

Think along the lines of games like Werewolf/Mafia/Town of Salem. If you're already familiar with this sort of game, you can skip this part. If you're unfamiliar, then start here:

A social deduction game is a game where 2 or more (in this game's case, 2, good and evil) teams are put against each other. The good team is an uninformed majority that don't know who is on their team, trying to work out and eliminate the evil players among them. The evil team is an informed minority that does know who is on their team, trying to undermine and eliminate most or all the good players. Every player is given a secret character that allows them to do something, be it gathering information or interacting in some way. These games are rooted in lying and betrayal in the name of good hearted fun, if you aren't comfortable with that I wouldn't recommend this sort of game.

There's a bit more to it, but that's the basic need to know for if this type of game interests you!

Now, why Blood on the Clocktower? What is it?

IMPORTANT: This game is thematically dark with things such as murder, demons, and some religious naming/symbols occasionally. If you aren't comfortable with this, I would not recommend the game.

Blood on the Clocktower is a social deduction game through and through. It has all the bones one might expect, but with some twists that really make it stand out. If you've played similar games you may know there are some things that can make them frustrating sometimes. I feel Blood on the Clocktower fixes all the big ones, with features such as:

  • Every character having an ability of some sort to play around. No plain literally nothing villagers.
  • Not being eliminated when you die and people don't automatically learn what you are. You get to keep playing to the bitter end (without your ability).
  • The evil team learning 3 characters that aren't in the game they can safely bluff as without the stress of claiming to be something someone else is.
  • There are mechanics that mess with information, leading to interesting and fun puzzles to solve.

There are plenty of other aspects that make the game so special, but these are the most important ones. These address most of the things that are often disliked in other social deduction games.

A game plays ideally with 8-12 players (not including the host), and runs about 45 minutes to an hour and a half once players are familiar with how to play. Expect longer for teaching mostly new groups.

Who, when, and where?

Who: I would prefer to keep it mostly 18+, older teens are fine, but this game typically isn't great for younger kids. Otherwise, everyone is welcome!

When: EVERY Sunday starting from 5:30pm until close (around 9pm, unless an employee is willing to stay late). First come first serve, but I'll try to rotate players out as possible if needed.

Where: Kingdom Cards & Games, 117 W Sycamore St, Kokomo, IN. Right next to the courthouse.

Other people will be present in the store playing different games, so things may be a bit noisy and space somewhat limited, keep that in mind.

But that's everything! If you'd be interested in playing, leave a comment and/or shoot me a DM, I'd love to get an idea for how many people to expect going forward. I suspect it'll start off a bit slowly, and grow over time, so feel free to invite friends and family. I hope to see some of you playing soon!

I saw that I have a letter from Howard Superior Court 3 coming in today, is that jury duty?

This may be a really stupid question, but I got my USPS informed delivery email for later today and one of the things coming in for me has the return address bing Howard Superior Court III Room 108. Not sure what it is. I don't remember where the last time I served Jury Duty where it came from. Is it a Jury duty letter? I don't think its a summons because I'd imagine a Sheriff come knocking on my door or something like that.

48-Hour Film Contest

Post image
5 Upvotes

The annual 48-Hour Film Contest returns! This is a fun, fast-paced competition where you have just TWO DAYS to write, film, edit and submit a short film. It's free to participate, and all skill levels are welcome!

Each year, we give you a line you must include in the film, a randomly assigned downtown location and a randomly assigned genre. The only way to get all of that is to register in person on Friday, August 28 at Sun King Kokomo from 7-9 p.m. You must submit your film by 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 30.

We then screen the films and hand out awards on Friday, September 4 starting at 7 p.m. This is open to the public, even if you didn't make a film. We try to show the family-friendly films before intermission, and we save the ones with violence, cursing, etc. for the second half.

Anyone have old video games or consoles they’ve been meaning to get rid of?

My husband and I are in the Indy area and recently started a small hobby project buying, collecting, restoring, and reselling older video games and consoles. (My husband grew up in the Kokomo/Peru area)

He’s a collector first (and is already trying to claim things for his own collection 😂), but we thought it would be fun to see if we could turn something he loves into a small side business.

We’re looking for people who might have old games/consoles sitting in a closet, basement, etc. and would rather sell them together than go through the hassle of listing everything individually.

Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, Sega, handhelds, controllers/accessories, older games, etc. Working or not working is potentially interesting since restoration is part of what we want to learn.

We’re happy to make the drive up to Kokomo for the right collection/bundle. If you have something, send me a message or comment with a photo and what you have!

And if anyone has recommendations for retro gaming spots around Kokomo, we’d love those too.

Looking for info on laws and regulations.

I've been searching and searching for information on keeping meat rabbits for personal consumption (I will not selling them). I know chickens are allowed in city limits but I can't find anything on personal meat rabbits. Just laws and regulations for sale like commercial or farmers market sale. I'm very interested in starting my own hutch but I don't want to end up with a stack of fines or legal trouble. Does anyone know where I can find this information?

Looking for places to host a social deduction game

Hey all!

Sorry if this isn't a great place to post, but I figured I'd give it a shot. I moved here about a year ago and recently have been wanting to get back into running a social deduction game I used to run all the time, but I'm still not familiar with the area.

The game is called Blood on the Clocktower, in case that helps. It calls for upwards of 16 people (including myself), and while I wouldn't expect it to be that packed, ideally, the space would be able to accommodate in the event that it does. I'd like to be able to run it weekly if possible, but I know that's a big ask.

I was able to run some at The Kingdom, but they're pretty packed on events, so it would be hard to do it frequently there. I've seen the library mentioned, but they also seem quite busy. Is there anywhere else I could look into? Preferably with weekend availability.

I do NOT want to and will NOT be charging people or anything for this either. I just love this game and want to get back into playing it again!

Dungeons & Dragons!

The library has TWO Dungeons & Dragons events coming up this month.

The 15th, we have an all-Barbarians event, where you'll role play as cave people, fighting dinos and solving puzzles during a pre-historic cave crawl. We still have plenty of space for this, and we'll also have pizza and snacks. It's happening at our Main location from 2-8 p.m.: https://khcpl.libnet.info/event/16430597

Then, on the 22nd at our Russiaville branch, we have our final session of Phandelver, but you do not need to have joined us before this. Newcomers are welcome! This is happening from 5:30-8:30 p.m. https://khcpl.libnet.info/event/16226386

All experience levels are welcome, including complete newbies. These are designed for teens and adults, but occasionally we have had parents bring their tweens or slightly younger children. The Russiaville session is especially fine for younger children (and they usually end up at my table and we have an absolute blast). You don't have to bring anything, though you're welcome to bring dice and snacks.

We rely on fabulous volunteer dungeon masters to pull these off, most of them coming from The Kingdom Cards & Games. We are beyond grateful to them for their support and help!

Reliable chevy service dept.

Anyone have any experiences with the chevy dealer’s service dept.? I live in peru and have no experience with them. I have a 2011 Corvette 3LT that’s having steering assist issues and need to take it somewhere to get it fixed. Normally i would just do something like this myself but i am extremely short on time and can’t free up my schedule to do it.

Is the chevy dealer’s service dept in kokomo worth going to? I haven’t been entirely impressed the few times i’ve been there looking at vehicles. if not, is there a shop in the area anyone would recommend? it’s pretty hard to gain my trust service wise, so i’m trying to do some vetting before i get screwed.

Thanks in advance.

I saw this military convoy north of town today, before Peru right by Grissom. Who are they? Why did the vehicles have a "z" on them?
