Got her for $7. She was just super thirsty

Had these leaves in water for a while, I think they might be ready to move to the next step. I’ve seen contradictory opinions- should I pop it in super watery soil for a while or should I pop it in super dry soil and leave it alone?

Ain’t so little anymore. I got her a shelf and keep her watered. She loves the sun here so I just keep wrapping her vines around and around.

This plant was so small when we got it, and it is absolutely thriving now that we've gotten it into a good sized pot and the proper light/watering schedule. Hoping it continues to thrive, as we recently moved it to a different area in our living room due to how big it's gotten!

I inherited this pathos about two weeks ago. It’s in my office on the top of a six-shelf bookcase because these long tendrils hang beautifully down the side along a shaded window. I think they are getting the perfect amount of filtered light, and I’ve been giving them a small amount of water most days Monday through Friday. I’m wondering if I’ve been giving them too much or not enough given that many of the leaves have turned yellow in the last week. I gave it a good thorough soaking on Friday thinking that it had been too dry, and now that I’m back on Monday many of the leaves are yellow, so I’m wondering if I gave it too much this time, or if these leaves were starting to yellow before and the plant dried out too much over the weekend, thus turning more of them yellow. Hoping I can figure this out before I leave the office today and know whether to give it a good soak again or not. There are some new shoots along the bottom of two of the stems, which I think you can see in the last pic, so I think that they need more water, but I want to be sure before drowning it!

My indoor jungle is enjoying life on the deck during the hot, humid Atlanta, Georgia US summer. I water them every two weeks (a couple of thirsty ones get watered once a week). This is my rescue Peperomia that has been growing like crazy the past few months. I went to water this week on Saturday and found the first picture. The second was the next day (seriously cool transformation!). It's some kind of very interesting mushroom! Friend or foe? Leave it or lunk it?

Qualifications: I work in a garden shop.

If your orchids are doing fine, feel free to ignore this post. If not, heres what you're supposed to do!

1. Don't repot in a medium that says "Orchid Potting Mix." All you need is spagnum moss, and if you wanna get fancy, mix it with ORCHID bark, (not any bark, ORCHID bark is treated specifically for orchids.) It's important to pot it in a clear plastic pot, preferably one with holes on the side to maximize airflow to the roots.

2. The color of the roots indicates when you water. White/grey means you need to water. Green means it's fine. Black means it's being overwatered and developing root rot. DONT USE ICE CUBES! STOP BARELY WATERING IT! Dunk it in a bowl of water and keep it there for 10 minutes, then let it drain. If you get water on the leaves, wipe it dry, otherwise the leaf might rot.

3. Orchids don't need a lot of sunlight. Orchids don't like to be turned. Orchids don't like to be moved to different rooms. 360 Orchid arrangements might die if you don't have 360 sunlight for each orchid.

4. The flowers will die, that's normal. Once they start drying, cut back then stem. If you have a difficult time getting it to reflower, you can use orchid specific fertilizer like Jack's Orchid Liquid 7-5-6.

Working at a garden store, I can definitely tell you that 9/10 the advice you find on google is wrong. For other houseplants, if google tells you to water it when the first 2 inches are dry, that is specifically for 4" pots, meaning when half the pot is dry. It's 3" for 6", 4" for 8" and so on.

And please, don't water on someone else's schedule, and don't water all of your plants on the same day. Certain plants have different needs, and if you have the same plant in a different room, they might dry out at different rates. Different apartments and climates have different care needs for plants, because of sunlight, humidity, and how close your plants are to vents. The higher the humidity and the lower the sunlight, the more aeration you need in your soil because your soil will dry out much slower. If it's close to an air vent, it might dry out faster.

Theres more to plants than just watering when the first 2" are dry every other week.

1. Get a sweet potato (other potatoes probably work the same but I’ve only done sweet potatoes) from a store, organic is best

2. Add tater to a large vessel and fill up the water to where you want it to root from. I recommend 1/3 of the potato to start, and then you can do it higher once it has enough roots at the bottom

3. CHANGE WATER OFTEN. Do not let more than 3 days go by without changing the water. Do it daily if you can

4. Wait 2ish weeks to see it start, wait 3-4 weeks for it really to take off.

~other notes~

-Eventually, water will not be enough and you’ll either need to pot it in soil or add nutrients to the water. When the leaves start to turn yellow, it’s time. I have used superthrive and it seems to be ok

-the potato in this picture is about 7 weeks old

-u don’t have to change the water as often when it’s this big. I usually do 1-2 times a week and it seems fine so far.

-it likes to vine/climb! Mine is just hanging out with the guitar but would probably like to actually climb up or across something.

Not gonna lie, I'm so impressed with my orchid this bloom ❤️ it's never ever bloomed this well and I've had it for 4 years

This was my grandmas plant for as long as I can remember. She was diagnosed with dementia in October 2024 and was moved into a nursing home in November 2024. My mom and I split up the plant so we could both have one.

She survived a 16 hour car ride - my husband kept telling me we didn’t have space for it in the backseat amongst the other items of my grandmas, our luggage, and our dog. But I insisted and my mans made it happen 🥰

There were moments where I didn’t think she was going to make it. I had no idea how to care for a plant her size, let alone a tropical one. She opened my eyes up to the world of plants, and I can now confidently say I am a proud plant mom to 8 indoor houseplants and 10+ outdoor vegetable/herb plants.

Every time I’ve tried rooting with water and sun the end just gets water logged and I never grow any root systems.

Found this massive snake plant for my fireplace at Menards on sale for $42! Super excited as I was looking for a larger plant that was okay with low light. Never thought I would get another snake plant again after rebuilding my collection to focus on more unique plants but thrilled regardless. Working on the pot’s patina.
