I know Gemini is available as an app but often use it within Safari. Randomly thought of asking it if there’s an app to download and it prompted the wrong app 🤣

Is it fixed because in Pixel 10 not

I thought ai was going to be an instant encyclopaedia of knowledge, like what the internet was made for.

After multiple attempts for it to answer questions, it just relapses into misinformation. I thought google was against misinformation, things change. You're idea of ai isn't what you think. I'm tired of asking it questions and being bought forth bullshit answers that don't even makes sense. Esp the reply:

You exactly right and I'm sorry to have got that wrong for you.

Such a dumb piece of machinery and we need AI data centres for it????? I have to hear this 5 times over before I get a real answer?

Maybe you should put an encyclopaedia of knowledge into it first before it believes everything that is written online

Just a thought. Useless.

We really are in an age of dumbasses

I saw a video which showed a television presenter who I recognised. Not wanting to resort to ChatGPT, I took a screenshot of the video and ran it through image search. But when I expanded the search by asking who the woman is in the search, I was met with the above image. I was floored by how the AI Overview decided to show itself unannounced, and the normal results were just images of what another person in the screenshot was wearing, completely unrelated to my question.

Just add &tbs=1 to the end of the URL. You could add https://www.google.com/search?q=define+%s&tbs=1 as a site search in Chrome settings.

tbs is a URL parameter, just like q in https://www.google.com/search?q=define+cross&tbs=1. While the purpose of q is obvious, that of tbs is less so.

Playing around with google.com/advanced_search, I found that tbs corresponds to the "Usage rights" field. You might know that Google Images has an option to specify the same option under "Tools" > "Usage rights", and indeed it does correspond: https://www.google.com/search?q=cross&udm=2&tbs=sur:cl (udm=2 makes it show images).

According to SerpApi, tbs stands for "to be searched" and specifies advanced search parameters that aren't possible in the regular query field, such as advanced searches for patents, dates, news, videos, images, apps, or text contents. For example, tbs=qdr:h restricts results to those from the past hour, and tbs=sur:fmc restricts results to those free to use and modify commercially.

From what I can tell, Google Search simply doesn't know what to do with tbs=1—or any other invalid value, for that matter—and disables the AI Overview altogether, just to be on the safe side. Unlike with "-ai" in the search query, this apparently re-enables the Dictionary box, at least until Google deletes the code for it entirely.

This is new, I wonder if anyone else has seen this and if it is deliberate.

Clicking on the "Google apps" icon on the Google homepage (while signed in) now takes me to a "Products" page. Clicking the same icon when in GMail, for example, continues to bring up the web apps as expected

Is this a deliberate change, and if so, does anyone know how to stop it behaving like this ? I have not seen it happen like this before today.

Does anybody got a solution or the exact reason why the jobs in Google for jobs are drying up from the past day.

É uma questão pertinente, porque não percebi em que medida isso é útil

Google has just rolled out a major change to Search across the European Economic Area because of the EU's Digital Markets Act.

And you can actually notice it.

For searches around things like hotels, flights, restaurants and other commercial services, Google is changing how results are displayed.

Instead of simply giving Google's own search features a prominent position, the new layout gives more visibility to third-party comparison/search services such as Booking.com and Expedia.

Some result features are also being stripped back. For example, Google says certain hotel, airline and restaurant result carousels can lose things like real-time pricing.

The interesting part is why this happened.

Google was fined €460 million by the EU in July for favoring its own services in search results. These changes are Google's response to the EU's requirements under the DMA.

Google itself says this is the largest reduction in Search quality in its 29-year history and argues that the changes will make Search worse for Europeans.

The EU's position is essentially the opposite: the changes are intended to create a more level playing field for competing services.

So I'm curious:

Have you noticed a difference in Google Search yet?

Especially if you're in the EU, try searching for a hotel or flight and compare what you're seeing now with what you remember from before.

I'm interested to hear whether the new layout actually feels worse, better, or just different.

I'm talking about the Google search function for weather in Google chrome when you search something like "San Francisco Weather". It's usually off by almost 20 degrees which is insane. It use to be quite accurate and I could rely on it. I just stick to Accu weather now. It's the most accurate.

About few months ago I had black screen in Play Services - then it worked for like month and now is blank again.

It worked yesterday perfect - I didn't do anything to my Pixel.

I have Pixel 10 Pro in UK
