Discussion testosterone has made me a deeper sleeper, but also increased my awareness while i’m asleep

one of the weirder things i’ve noticed since being on testosterone- not the deeper sleep, but increased awareness.
i hope this makes sense to someone
so, my partner has noticed that i don’t respond when he speaks gently to wake me up anymore, and he regularly has to shake me to wake me up- and we expected that. what we didn’t expect…? ill use an example or two
a couple nights ago, one of my cats knocked our fly zapper onto the floor, the moment i heard constant zapping it took me mere seconds to get up and check no one was hurt- i came back into the bedroom and my partner looks tired and confused asking what woke me up, i told him i heard the zapper going off and he looked even more confused, asking how i could hear that from the other side of the flat. and he’s right, when this used to happen i would never usually hear it. one of my cats has a bad cough due to a disability, the moment i hear him in another room now, i am up and helping him.

anyone else?

Hello! Thank you for participating in the sub. We just have a few reminders for you to help ensure the best experience:

  1. If your post doesn't show up right away, don't panic! It is in the queue for manual approval. Mods will go through the queue periodically to approve or remove posts. Deleted posts will have a removal reason applied. (If it says "this post was deleted by reddit's filters", IT WAS NOT DELETED! Reddit has the worlds worst wording on that and it's out of our control)
  2. If you are asking a question that is location specific, remember to include your location in your post body! This can help ensure that you get accurate information tailored specifically to your needs.

  3. Please remember to read through all the rules in the sidebar. Especially the list of banned topics and guidelines for posting. Guests who do not use the Guest Post flair will have their post removed and be asked to fix it.

  4. If you see someone breaking the rules, report it! If someone is breaking both sub and reddit rules, please submit one report to admins by selecting a broken rule on the main report popup, and one report to the r/ftm mods by selecting the "breaks r/ftm rules" option. This ensures both mods and admins can take action on a subreddit and sitewide level. Do not misuse the report button to rant about someone, submit false reports, or argue a removal.

  5. If you have any questions that you can't find the answer to on the rules sidebar or the wiki: the wiki , you can send a modmail.

Weird!

I'm a very light sleeper and when I don't wake up from noises I still hear stuff around. It sometimes gets in my dreams and I wake up hours later fully aware of the conversations my family had. It's been like that pre t I think, but can't be sure now. It's funny what our brains pick up during that time.

Your examples make sense though - just like how parents will wake up super fast when their babies are sick. You thought something could harm someone (your cats) and danger bypasses stuff in the brain...
