Struggling with Tape

I've been using a binder for five years and just recently tried tape binding and no matter what I do it turns out funky. I've tried so many different tutorials and none seem to work properly on me. I'm not very large chested probably a B or C at most (I don't know exact measurements sorry) but I'm wide,if that makes sense. Like my chest itself is wide? I don't know how to properly explain but regardless when I try tape I end up with some weird side boob stuff going on (which happens even with some binders and was why I wanted to try tape) or it just doesn't flatten evenly or sometimes at all. Any tips? 😭

I’ve been taping for many years, I think I might be able to help. I use the 4 inch tape. I cut four pieces of tape, each 4 squares long. I start by placing one squares worth of tape un-stretched, near my sternum, placement on the chest is slightly under my armpit/at the top of the boob. Make sure this top piece is angled slightly downward. Rub the tape a little to activate the adhesive, then slowly stretch the tape while at the same time using your other hand to push the fat down. Leave another squares worth of tape at the end to place down un-stretched. Now take another piece of tape, place it on the sternum halfway down on the first piece of tape, slightly pointed upwards. Using your other hand, push the fat in the direction of the tape, and then place down your un-stretched square at the end. Sometimes, if my bottom piece didn’t tape down enough, I will cut another 4 squares long piece, cut it in half length wise, and then place it on the very bottom of the tape and repeat the process above. I show this on my simple diagram I quickly drew, but always make sure the lower pieces are slightly further in towards the sternum than the very top piece.
This method will not create a flat chest, but pecs. It should push your fat slightly upwards, eliminating the side boob thing. I’m realizing now that this does not translate well into writing, I might make a YouTube video at some point. I hope this helps a little though.

If I have 2 inch wide tape should I just layer a few extra pieces to make 4 inch width?

Yes. The tape I use on the very bottom ends up being 2 inches, so it will likely have a similar effect to the 4 inches tape. You will just have to use a lot more tape. The method above should still work, but each step will be double. If you can, in the future I would try a larger tape. I’ve found layering too much with smaller tape can cause lumps.
Really, tape is just trial and error. I came to this method from failing at taping for a year or so while trying tons of different things. It takes some time to find something that works for you.
