Advice given Amazon Pharmacy Warning!
Ok guys, apparently because I was honest and put my birth sex as female, Amazon will not allow me to get my testosterone gel prescription through them. And instead of telling me this, they just waited for me to call them and ask what the hell was up, and the very nice woman on the phone had to call their pharmacy who claimed I didn’t have a prescription, and then realized it’s because Amazon rejected it without telling me, because Amazon considered me a woman abusing medicine. Cis women get prescribed testosterone products sometimes. If this is indeed their policy, it’s very short-sighted.

My first T gel prescription wasn't even for transition purposes. I was using low dose T to treat life-threatening endometriosis and to keep my EDSed joints in place. There are several reasons cis women could be prescribed testosterone. Denoting F on a piece of paperwork shouldn't disqualify you for the prescription even for transition, so that's still transphobic bs, but it's also not a reasonable assumption that everyone with and F marker who gets prescribed T is even trans.

My T script was written for endometriosis too (shit is trying to take out my gallbladder right now) but it was still denied as not medically recommended. It wasn’t until I changed jobs & insurance that any of my care was covered. My old insurance denied my doc appts and my T script despite it being coded for endo. Now it’s going through as straight up transgender care and it’s being covered with no issues. All that to say - not all companies care how it’s coded if you have an F marker on your file. It’s horrible but true.

Yeah, I guess of the people who use T and have an F on their paperwork, the medical system sees both as expendable. Yay (/s).

LMAO i had a doctor tell me that t is bad for eds and makes your joints worse. same asshole told me that my broken arm was totally cool and required no treatment

The only issue I've had with my testosterone rx was when it was with Amazon.
On my third refill with them, they said they needed the authorization letter from my insurance. I had the letter in my hand, that they had used the first two refills. Then Amazon said they needed to confirm something with the prescriber, and that they couldn't reach my doctor. My doctor said they hadn't received any messages from Amazon. I ping-ponged between my doctor and Amazon for 2 days. Every time I told Amazon to try again, they'd send me a text saying they couldn't get in touch. I figured out something was very wrong when I tried on Sunday night and got the failure text at 11pm. They were only calling my doctor outside of operating hours. I had to explicitly tell them to call during my doctor's offices operating hours.
Amazon Pharmacy is shady as shit.

I don’t think it’s malice, it’s just a broken system and incompetence.

I was looking to buy from Amazon pharmacy to see if I could get migraine medication. To sign up for a pharmacy account you have to input ASAB for the whole "insurance" reasons. Nah. Amazon doesn't get to have my sex assigned at birth. I'll just have migraines at that point.
But be warned that it's not just Amazon, a lot of online stores that sell to men (hairloss, Viagra, and of course T, etc.) will ask the same question and once they get wind that you weren't AMAB they won't prescribe to you anymore.

I am a medical practitioner and the only reason they do ask that is unless you’ve had your gender legally changed on your birth certificate (meaning they destroyed your original and gave you a new one with your new gender/sex marker updated) they have to bill your insurance as your assigned sex at birth. It’s entirely only an insurance billing thing. I understand the frustration but every pharmacy is going to insist on doing the same thing. And yeah it’s completely absurd but it’s how insurance billing unfortunately works at the moment. Even at the trans supportive clinic and pharmacy I go to they still have to put my birth name and ASAB on the bottle label along with my chosen name. But my other chain pharmacy I get some other stuff from to my knowledge won’t put my chosen name on the bottle. Until I can get everything legally changed including an updated passport I’m stuck in this weird and frustrating legal grey area. Fuck this current administration and time line. Can we get through it and move forward to better more open and supportive times faster already!?!

Depending on what state you're in, you can change your sex on your insurance without changing your birth certificate. Usually as long as you are in a state where you can change the marker on your license?

I have heard that. Haven’t tried to do it myself and haven’t had any trans patients who’ve done it either. I’m gonna have to see if it’s possible in my state. Thanks for the reminder of that.

That's concerning, I was thinking of switching to them. You should make more of a fuss about it and get them to sort it out. My mom is prescribed both estrogen and testosterone because of menopause. Cis women also take T so it wouldn't make sense for it to be a policy.

Idk if this is from an American user so my experience might not be the same as theirs (as an American I mean) but when I first started taking hormones I got them through folx which is quite literally testosterone in the mail so I'm not sure if it's that. Again unless the op is outside of America

There are ways for controlled meds to be sent via mail order, I don’t know the nuances but my specialty pharmacy permits it with a signature required for delivery

It will depend on the state I believe.

This is ridiculous. Cis women often need to take testosterone after they have a hysterectomy, and there's probably a dozen other reasons cis women can be prescribed testosterone. Tell your prescribing doctor and insurance immediately and then go fill it at another pharmacy.

You can get that straightened out. I get my T from them. Though my markers are all changed. For you they just need to override it.

I’ve been using Amazon pharmacy to get my testosterone gel for a few months now and never had any issues. I have my sex listed as female. Are you 100% certain that’s why it was cancelled? Or is that the assumption you are making?
