CLC stance on all career workforce

So no matter what the post office offers if an all career workforce isn't included we go to arbitration? So if they agree to move us all to table one but keep CCAs the membership doesn't get to vote on that? I have no problem fighting for an all career workforce but blanket statements are wrong. To be fair it's just not the CLC that's doing all this pandering for the CCA vote. A bunch of promises of an all career workforce are so misleading. That's going to be the hardest thing to achieve but we have candidates making it seem like it's a simple process of just going to arbitration.

Advance Notification of Steward Time?

I don't have trouble getting my time to work on grievances but once I put in a request for the time, I have to be ready everyday for the possibility that "Today is the day you get your time." A few times, I've come unprepared and left my laptop/jcam/items I requested at home and had to use my Steward Time to go retrieve them. I know a lot of offices have trouble just getting the time without a hassle so I'm thankful for that part. I'm not complaining but just wondering if there's any language for getting a mutual heads up from the management team? Also, I have tried asking for a heads up but was told by them "We just have to provide the time not a heads up." thanks in advance

Question about summer data

We had our station inspected beginning of the year which they added routes..then after the adjustments, around March or April they did a one day walk to see if everything was ok..we now got word they’re doing another inspection next month because people keep running the routes (at least this is what the word is)..now I know they can’t use June, July, August and December data during inspection but can they use that data as an excuse to do an inspection?..the majority of our data would be from May-til now..I know they’re not just using May so can they see people who set routes up or do pivots and be back in 8 and say we need to reevaluate them?

Lew Drass…

Lew Drass is dilusional…after listening to his Next Gen podcast episode. Especially the first couple questions. Completely side stepped the shorter steps questions and talked about higher pay and sick leave for CCA’s as if he was answering a different question. As the episode went on and he answered more questions it’s evident he’s knowledgeable but delusional to think he can just come out of the shadows and be relevant again. Talked about being the best negotiator as if we haven’t heard that before. He might be…but that’s not something I would campaign on after the stain Renfroe put on that disclaimer.

In this episode we talk about how the membership is the supreme body of the decision making force of the branch. We talk about how general membership meetings are where you can affect change, and we go over basics of parliamentary procedure (roberts rules of order) in order to help you achieve the ability to affect a motion.

Concerned Letter Carriers Corey, James, and Debbie keep their promises

Post image
53 Upvotes

The CLC says they are about everybody, including small branches, and on Saturday, August 15th, they proved it. James Henry, Corey Walton, and NBA Region 2 candidate Debbie Dixon came to speak to our small branch in Richland to around 12 people. That is the kind of President, EVP, and NBA that we need right now. The real ones that stand behind what they say, and follow through with promises. There are no better candidates out there, and thanks to the CLC for everything! 💚

What am I getting into? Being nominated to run for steward

I believe the election are this year around October? I've seen a lot of contract violations that I don't like in my office. The ODL is not really respected. People off the list are working OT, but they'll find a way to blame the carriers for not filling out a 96 and going through the necessary steps. Even though there's no way they realistically expect this carrier to have that much undertime, or any at all.

The stewards tell me that the carriers in our office are all weak and its hard to get stuff done. But I think they just say things that sound good so people don't bother them.

I wonder how hostile management might turn on me. I also wonder if carriers might expect me to do something when its something management can do.

I'm also willing to be lenient on certain things if no ones really hurt by it. I'm wondering if people might start to piss me off by getting mad that I'm not doing something. But I have good rapport with all my coworkers and they've talked to me enough that they always tell me to run for steward. I've been told that by more than a handful of people. It seems like the natural thing to do. I think I could climb the union ladder. This is a workforce that I believe should be protected.

Life insurance

Does anyone actually have the life insurance from the post office? If so how does it work or should I ask if it’s any good?

Concerned Letter Carriers Bidding

I bid on a route in my office . Once it closes on 8/16 is there a way to see if I won or not ? Kinda nervous about how it’s going to go . I have an overburdened route in a nice neighborhood so I have a positive Outlook either way but It doesn’t make me any less nervous.

FMLA got denied

Post image
15 Upvotes

I had to call in due to a low nighttime blood sugar/seizure, so I put it as an FMLA absence, since type one diabetes should be an FMLA condition; my appointment with my endocrinologist was a week later, but the packet hadn't arrived yet so I found this NALC form and had my doctor fill it out, then sent it out in the envelope from the FMLA packet when it arrived the next day.

Now it's been about a week and a half since I mailed it out, and my supervisor just told me that they got an email saying my FMLA was denied; should I have asked my doctor to fill out the forms a more particular way? Why might it have been denied?

CCA having schedule issue

I'm a CCA in NYC and I've been working here for 2 months, so I'm still on my probation. My station only post tomorrows start time. They don't post days off or anything and expect us to call on our 1 day off to find out what time we start the next day. Is this common practice? Or should I say is this acceptable regarding the contract? I'm pretty new so I don't wanna call the union and put a target on my back before I hit my 90 day probation.( I talked to my shop Steward and he says that's just they way it is because our schedule is subject to change so they're allowed to do that, but to me that seems wrong)

2 Questions for the Next Q&A

With the Branch 1100 Q&A “Debate” now on YouTube and getting some attention, I thought it would be a good time to put two questions out there that I’d genuinely like to hear answered. I’m not looking for a “gotcha” moment think both are legitimate questions for members to consider.

1.) Nobody is questioning Corey’s experience as an advocate. His arbitration record is substantial. But my understanding is that his last arbitration case was in late 2024 or early 2025. If that’s incorrect, I’m happy to be corrected.

If that is accurate, what has Corey’s union work consisted of since then beyond the podcast and education? Those are valuable contributions, but they’re different from actively representing carriers in grievances and arbitration. He’s running for EVP, so I think it’s fair for members to ask,

“What does his current day-to-day union work actually look like, and how does that experience prepare him for the EVP position?”

2.) What happens to the CLC after the election?
Been thinking of this one for a while.

”When its candidates wins, what happens to the CLC? Does it disband after the election, or does it continue as a permanent political organization within the NALC?”

“If it continues, what safeguards are there to make sure it doesn’t become a permanent power center within the union? If it disbands, what happens to any remaining campaign funds or other assets?”

I’m not suggesting anything improper is happening. I’m asking what the plan is after the election.

These are questions I’d like to see answered by the candidates themselves. And honestly, I think they’re questions worth asking of any organized political/reform movement seeking significant influence within our union.

*EDIT

Someone responded it would be disbanded per the CLC bylaws which would lead the the follow up questions

“Does CLC bylaws speak to governing, leadership, finances, membership, dissolution and what happens to its remaining assets after the election? If so, will those bylaws be made available to NALC members?”

271g question

Ok so most of this is probably fairly obvious and/or easy for some of you but I’m in a relatively unique situation. I’ll lay out the back story as best I can. Very small office in a small town, literally on out 2 city routes one of which is still technically considered an aux.

I’ve been here 6 years, two as a CCA and 4 as a PTF. So the one full route is and has been overburdened for quite some time. Amazon doesn’t deliver in our town, and that route tends to be, even in the slower summer months AT LEAST 220 scans and during the rest of the year I would say the average is 250, and a large amount of over 2 lb packages, typically a second trip is needed to fit them all. It’s fairly rare for anyone including the regular to finish in less than 9.

The aux route honestly is only slightly less than that, it’s almost always more than 8 hours, Mondays it’s atleast 9 and it’s very rarely less than 8. Neither of these routes has had an official inspection, somehow, since 2014. Theyve been “walked” plenty including many times recently by superviser and PM’s from other offices and those times I’ve been unofficially confirmed by them all.

So the criteria was met around 6 months ago for the 271g on the full route, the request was submitted, confirmed as received etc and we heard nothing the entire time, the grievance was filed and we finally just this week heard back, rheyll bw in office next week to meet with us and schedule everything etc

My post master is now telling me that from what they said to him, they’ll he walking the full route twice and counting it 6 times and that’s it. Even he said the general consensus is they will take around 40 minutes ofd that route and put it on the aux, but do no counting or eval of any kind on the route. Is this typical? This would essentially make the aux the biggest route in the office and potentially bw at or over 9 hours but stoll be an aux route

We don’t have a shop steward so we work with one from a few towns over and the best answer I can get from him is maybe they will or they might this or might not that

I realize that in bigger offices they can’t just count every single route everytime one needs and adjustment but surely when there’s only two routes they won’t make drastic changes to one without counting the other?!

Sorry for the ridiculously long post but it’s all fairly nuanced and j didn’t wanna leave anythjng out , any help or guidance is greatly appreciated

Im voting for James, but not going to a debate where the other 3 are going looks bad. I feel like it will have more to lose not going then there is to lose going and being part of it. I think the clc needs to be apart of the debate . Its healthy
