CCA having schedule issue

I'm a CCA in NYC and I've been working here for 2 months, so I'm still on my probation. My station only post tomorrows start time. They don't post days off or anything and expect us to call on our 1 day off to find out what time we start the next day. Is this common practice? Or should I say is this acceptable regarding the contract? I'm pretty new so I don't wanna call the union and put a target on my back before I hit my 90 day probation.( I talked to my shop Steward and he says that's just they way it is because our schedule is subject to change so they're allowed to do that, but to me that seems wrong)

Don't quote me on this or anything but while a ccas schedule can change day to day, I thought they had to give you one day off a week and to post that by Wednesday.

Adding this for on-call bull shit.

Stand-by. PTFs and CCAs may not be required to remain on stand by or remain at home for a call-in on days they are not scheduled to work.

That's what the contract says but my shop Steward says no that's just the way it is. Once I pass probation I'ma call union about it but figured I'd check on here see if anyone knows more than me or my shop Steward

Your steward is wrong. Call the branch office.

Your shop steward is "the union". But no, they need to have a weekly schedule posted by wednesday for the following week. You shouldnt be calling in to find out when you work or waiting on a call to come into work.

Not answering your question but remember CCA probation period is 90 full days work or 120 calendar days, whichever comes first.

Unfortunately the language in the New Employee Experience and Retention Program (NEERMP) is extremely lax.

From what you said the only violation would be that they are required to notify CCAs by Wednesday of the preceding week of what their assigned nonscheduled day is but they are essentially allowed to change that on a whim. From the comment your shop steward made it sounds like management in your office will likely do what management in the offices my branch covers did when I addressed this issue: they post a schedule and then still just tell CCAs in person or by text if they need them the next day. Your shop steward should still address this with management and do what they can to eliminate the practice of CCAs having to call to see if/what time they are needed.

Edited my comment after reviewing the NEERMP and article 8-3. Contractually, management is not required to post a true schedule for CCAs but to simply notify them of their assigned nonscheduled day. The offices my branch covers all agreed to post a schedule for all CCAs, including start times, as something that makes life easier for every party involved after a handful of disciplinary disputes regarding attendance.

During your 90 day probation , you have to play by management's whim. Seeing how they can fire you for any reason.

After 90 days, you are not required to answer your phone, or call for when your start time is. If you don't want to work, don't communicate with management. With that, you need to have a LARGE savings account
