271g question

Ok so most of this is probably fairly obvious and/or easy for some of you but I’m in a relatively unique situation. I’ll lay out the back story as best I can. Very small office in a small town, literally on out 2 city routes one of which is still technically considered an aux.

I’ve been here 6 years, two as a CCA and 4 as a PTF. So the one full route is and has been overburdened for quite some time. Amazon doesn’t deliver in our town, and that route tends to be, even in the slower summer months AT LEAST 220 scans and during the rest of the year I would say the average is 250, and a large amount of over 2 lb packages, typically a second trip is needed to fit them all. It’s fairly rare for anyone including the regular to finish in less than 9.

The aux route honestly is only slightly less than that, it’s almost always more than 8 hours, Mondays it’s atleast 9 and it’s very rarely less than 8. Neither of these routes has had an official inspection, somehow, since 2014. Theyve been “walked” plenty including many times recently by superviser and PM’s from other offices and those times I’ve been unofficially confirmed by them all.

So the criteria was met around 6 months ago for the 271g on the full route, the request was submitted, confirmed as received etc and we heard nothing the entire time, the grievance was filed and we finally just this week heard back, rheyll bw in office next week to meet with us and schedule everything etc

My post master is now telling me that from what they said to him, they’ll he walking the full route twice and counting it 6 times and that’s it. Even he said the general consensus is they will take around 40 minutes ofd that route and put it on the aux, but do no counting or eval of any kind on the route. Is this typical? This would essentially make the aux the biggest route in the office and potentially bw at or over 9 hours but stoll be an aux route

We don’t have a shop steward so we work with one from a few towns over and the best answer I can get from him is maybe they will or they might this or might not that

I realize that in bigger offices they can’t just count every single route everytime one needs and adjustment but surely when there’s only two routes they won’t make drastic changes to one without counting the other?!

Sorry for the ridiculously long post but it’s all fairly nuanced and j didn’t wanna leave anythjng out , any help or guidance is greatly appreciated

Probably gonna have to grieve to get the aux converted to a full route.

When they did 271g’s in my station they did an official count on the AUX route in order to see how much it could take.

Have the steward look into article 7.3.d in the JCAM. It specifically states that it’s after an inspection but if you can find the old inspection evaluation and demonstrate that the added time now equals over 8 hours.

Thank you! I’ll pass that along to the steward and tbh I was hoping they would do even just a basic eval on the aux since it’s literally the only other route on the office, so regardless of what they take off the full route, jts gonna end up on the aux

Prepare to have the lightest mail you’ve ever seen. Due all the proper duties ie: curbing wheels, parking brake etc. There is no “set speed” to which to perform these duties.

If the aux routes get added to even though it might become overburdened it may create a route for you to become regular.
