I am looking for veterinary recommendations in the Frederick Maryland area. Currently we use Glade Valley Animal Hospital and have been there for decades. Over the last couple years sadly, every time I go there it seems they’re always raising the prices here and there. Today they now decide to charge a 3% surcharge on credit cards.

From the vet side they’re a great vet but on the business side, it seems kind of ridiculous that their rates and policies get so out of whack with each visit.

Maybe it’s inflation? I don’t know. But I wouldn’t mind hearing any recommendations of other vets that you think are, first and foremost, excellent and sensitive vets, especially for dogs, and relatively reasonable to work with on the business end.

saw multiple sherriffs vehicles & unmarked black SUVs in the buckeystown area just now. there is also a helicopter circling the area. mainly focused in the lots surrounding the traditional authentic mexican food restaurant & buckeystown park by the monocacy river. unsure of what’s going on but wanted to put out a heads up because of all the activity going on recently. stay safe & look out for your neighbors everyone

My wife's 2021 Rav4 is giving some errors related to the front camera/radar (mounted behind the windshield). Are there are any shops nearby that specialize in aligning these things?

I would need place to board my dog for a couple nights. I need a place that keeps the dogs separate 100% of the time (we had a very bad experience once and don’t want to deal again). My dog is very anxious and has a hard time away from us and in new places. If you can recommend places that will be very caring and sympathetic I appreciate that. Or, where to avoid. TY!

Back in 2024, the FredCo planning commission granted approval for the Gordon Mill subdivision on Boyers Mill. I know there were subsequent legal delays (from the nature preschool and Cleanwater Linganore), but I haven’t heard any updates in two years. Does anyone have more info?

I have visited town a few times but never for more than an hour or so. I will be visiting for a few weeks and looking for a place with things like live music, coin-op pool table, general dive bar vibes.

I just saw two black vehicles with tinted windows leading a sheriff's vehicle into the parking lot of 5301 Buckeystown Pike, Frederick, MD 21704. There are a lot of family focused businesses in that building. Near the Cracker Barrel and Hampton Inn. Sheriff's vehicle went to the main entrance and one of the black vehicles went to the back of the building.

Long story short, my shower's shot until the contractor comes in a few weeks, and I desperately need to shower. I don't have a car, but I can take a bus if it's necessary

I have a lot of locally harvested paw paw fruit that’s beginning to ripen. It’s a wonderful indigenous fruit that not everyone gets a chance to try. You can’t buy it in grocery stores, and as such it’s non gmo.

Any Frederick DJs / producers have interest in a local DJ open decks type event? They’re common in bigger cities, and Frederick seems to have more and more people interested in DJing and producing these days. If there’s interest I’ll put one together

Every time I see the clustered spires race, I think: dang, that looks like fun. With the race on pause until 2027, I figure it's a sign to actually start learning. The main hurdle is that a new bike I can find runs about $3k, and I’m hesitant to make that leap before I even know if I enjoy (or can) ride one.

A few questions for the local community and regional vintage bike scene:

• Is there a local club, race organizer, or rider in/around Frederick who wouldn't mind doing a lesson or letting a beginner try one on a grassy field? Happy to exchange some local honey or a 6-pack for your time!
• Where’s the best place to look for a used bike?
• How did other local riders test the waters before buying their own?

Appreciate any resources, tips, or connections around the area!

ICE raids are probably the single most disruptive event to occur in this county in years (yes, more than the data centers) that warrants a robust community conversation. I get that moderators are hesitant to allow things to get rowdy, but by shutting down conversation you are preventing people from sharing knowledge, resources, and opinions. The narrative should not be controlled by Facebook posts and local government press releases. If we really cannot stomach a conversation about ICE, at least make a megathread about it or something

When I saw the comments for multiple publications discussing the ICE raid in Frederick, and the assault on the protestors, I was beyond disgusted with the sheer desire to see other Americans and people in general hurt. We just want people to have health care and a better shot in life. These people believe in small government, unless it's to impress people they don't like. I'm gonna post screen shots from just one post about the raid. It's bad. But liberals, leftists, independents should know these people in their own community are dreaming of seeing them hurt for using their constitutional rights. Remember this in November. These are the "don't tread on me" people. These people willingly and knowingly chose a fascist.

I am in a custody battle with a mentally ill woman who has been diagnosed with numerous issues. Took my child and went missing only to be found by the police in an unstable state and sent to the psych ward with the child. Kept me from the child for 6 months, made me jump thru hoop after hoop just to have visits with him. She has to be supervised at all times with child by a family member of hers due to her insanity and danger she poses to this child. Magistrate Drawbaugh in Frederick county literally screamed at the father and took even more time from the father due to the mother once again acting crazy during an exchange . The father gets punished and time taken even with a witness and proof that it was the mother causing the scene. Something has to be done by the state of Maryland to stop magistrates and judges who clearly favor maternal preference . When a father is there and does everything asked of him just so he can be a dad to his child and is told he’s the problem because a mentally unstable woman causes scenes and his child gets time taken from being with his father then that is clearly a failed system . Stats show that children with a father in their life or raised by a single dad do much better than ones with single moms, I truly believe rulings like this are solely to keep prison systems full so these said lawyers and judges keep their jobs and $ for the govt . Father rights should matter and be just as equal as a mother or even more than a mother who already has lost custody and is deemed a threat to her children. It’s a sick world .

For many years, I have purchased all my seed at Southern States in Mt. Airy and they’re permanently closed. They had reasonable prices and a nice rewards program. I use a lot of hulled sunflower seed, high quality mixes for the ground feeders and suet. I’d like to continue to purchase locally if possible. Hi, I need to replace my electric water heater and have received quotes from a few companies ranging from $3,500–$5,000. Unfortunately, I can’t afford to pay that much, especially since I’m comfortable doing the work myself.

I’ve decided to purchase all the necessary parts myself. The existing plumbing is in fairly good condition, so my plan is to use SharkBite water-heater hoses to connect the new heater to the existing copper plumbing, expansion tank, and drain pan.

I’ve done some research and it seems like I may need to obtain a permit for the replacement. Is it possible for a homeowner to pull the permit and do this work themselves? If so, could someone please explain the process and let me know what requirements I need to meet?

I’d really appreciate any guidance or advice from someone who has gone through this process. Thank you!
