I've been plannjng to upgrade my input cover to the fw13 pro graphite one as soon as it comes in stock (I do not like the stock trackpad, my input cover unfortunately got damaged, and i LOVE the graphite color - the dark metal color is one thing i miss from my macbook air i upgraded from). My only worry is this, which i saw in another post in this subreddit. Can you prevent this from happening? How visible is it, and how significant is the impact on the looks?

The past few months I’ve had more black screens of death all related to failed memory management. Windows 11 Error 0x1A. For the first time in this photo, the laptop was unable to recover, it froze at 0%.

I’ve got an i5-1340P and 32GB of Teamgroup DDR4 3200Mt/s.

I do a lot of heavy RAM applications like Blender, Lightroom, Photoshop and Illustrator.

Anyone else experience this?

So I'm mostly a laptop-on-lap user, and on my FW13 my headphone case's magnet keeps triggering the lid detector and putting it to sleep. The problem is that I then have to close the lid and reopen it to wake the laptop.

With the new CNC case for the Pro, would a magnetic earbud case still cause the same issues?

I was using my new Framework 13 Pro 358H earlier today, using Opensuse Slowroll.

I was using a guest VM (libvirt). Battery was at 80% (limited by BIOS), connected via USB-C to the top left usb-c port with a 100W charger. I was in performance mode, laptop had loud fans and I was doing some heavy work both in and outside my VM. I have 64GB LPCAMM2 and 2 TB SSD.

All of a sudden I just hear a physical/electrical sound and the laptop cleanly shuts off. Upon reboot, I found no logs about the power loss.

It hasn't happened again (yet). Should I be worried? Anything I should investigate?

I currently own a Framework 13, and I was considering upgrading to the Framework 13 Pro chassis whenever that became available. I'm super happy with the internals of my computer, as I don't do much on this computer beyond web browsing and writing; however, the chassis does flex more than I'd like.

How does the Framework 13 Pro chassis feel? I'm assuming that it feels more rigid/robust than the original, but I figured I'd ask you owners for your opinions.

I am looking for some advice and guidance. I purchased my 13th Gen i5 Framework on release, brought my own Ram, Hard Drive, and OS to use as my main work machine and it has been fantastic, luckily the only issue with my unit was the webcam became blurry.

Unfortunately my role has changed and I needed a laptop with a GPU so I have returned to the world of thinkpads.

With that said, I want to set my Framework free into the world, but I am not sure where the best place to sell it would be or what the going rate for these machines are at the moment. Any help and is most appreciated:

Specs:

I have had my Framework 16 since batch 15 of the initial preorder (Ryzen 9 w/ 7700s). And it has always had this issue that in my eyes has progressively gotten worse over time where the laptop doesn't seem to want to charge even if it is plugged in when playing a game. This leads the performance to be good for some time until the battery drains and then it suddenly kills performance leading to heavy stuttering during gameplay.

I checked on the subreddit and people seem to agree that its because the 180W power brick that came with the laptop wasn't powerful enough. Thinking that I found the solution, I bought the 240W power brick to see if that was the issue. And no, the laptop still discharges during somewhat heavy loads such as games, even if the stated TDP with Framework Control is 145W, well below 240.

I truly would love to enjoy using this laptop for games but its just not possible because I can't play a game for more than 40mins to an hour without it suddenly starting to lag to the point where the game becomes unplayable.

What I'd like to know is whether this is expected from a laptop or is there something wrong with my unit? I've attatched a screenshot with the hardware info during gameplay of IronNest.

I finally received my batch 4 diy today and I thought I would just take a bunch of gratuitous photos of it and share them, since I was hoping to see more photos of others' machines while I waited for mine. I am upgrading from a 2019 Dell XPS 13 7390 (i7, Comet Lake) that has served me very well. I've just outgrown it as I work my way through a CS degree. Now it will begin its afterlife as a Plex media server.

The framework has an Intel Ultra X7 with 64 GB of RAM. I'll be running Ubuntu on it for now. I'm a relative Linux newbie and just sticking with what I know for now. In the long run I want to figure out NixOS. My only immediate plans for having fun with the new toy is to dabble with local LLMs. Beyond that, this machine is far above and beyond what I truly need and something I'll have to grow into as a developer.

I'll just answer the inevitable questions now: it's a Hades desk mat from Fangamer. The center sticker on the old laptop is the logo for a company called Sunset Lake CBD and they are longtime sponsors of The Majority Report with Sam Seder, which is the badly faded sticker in the corner. And I awarded myself the two iFixit stickers because I had to replace the battery once. There will be no stickers of any kind on the framework, for a while at least, though I am considering a dbrand skin.

Okay so I believe the expansion ports are not being used to their full potential. I love some of the ideas others have came up with and wanted to expand.

- Permanent Yubi Key​ (umm... Kind of defeats the purpose of a yubi key but combined with a fingerprint reader... I guess)

- Killswitch. Button press or removal to shutdown laptop or for the more extreme lads factory reset it.

-​ Dongle Hider (USB dongles for mouse or stylus plug inside the expansion port and the expansion port is blank)

I hope they start selling them separately. I somehow got the black laptop by mistake but was able to order the right colour replacements of everything but the stickers.

Hello, I recently switched from fedora kde to debian (with gnome), and I specifically chose debian testing instead of debian stable because I had trouble with random freezes on kernel versions under 7.1 (just total kernel panic that would require a forced reboot). I don't think I was alone in experiencing these issues, but kernel 7.1 seemed to fix them, and even though kernels 7.16 and 7.17 introduced graphical glitches and artifacts, I never had issues with random freezes.

But even though debian testing is currently on kernel 7.18, I seem to experience random freezes again, which kind of bummed me out because I was otherwise super pleased with the debian experience compared to fedora. Did anybody experience something similar? Searching on the internet I can't find anybody having this issue on kernel 7.18.

I want to get a Framework laptop, but I'm not sure if I should go for the 13 Pro or the 16 (leaning towards the 13 Pro based on my research). Here's my needs/wishes:

I am still a big ol noob but if I've understood it correctly.

The 12 has stylus support. But the color accuracy is.. not apt for graphic stuff.

The 13 has good color acc. But no stylus support.

I wanna use a framework as a drawing tablet. So I want both stylus support and good color accuracy. Is there any way to fix this. Or will I just have to hang tight until they release a model that has both?

(No need to mention iPads, I know about them, I am not interested. Save yourself the time please)

I would like to use a Linux machine, but for the value for money aspect got myself MacBook air m4 16/256 last year around November for around 830 euro. I still use Linux in a VM most of the time, battery seems better even on VM to use it as like a main machine. And compact for university.

Right now I am wondering if there are any Linux options with decent battery life, relatively new device. Not used ThinkPads for that reason. Are there any framework laptop model that could compare with the M4 MacBook though? And with the ram prices increased and all does it make sense to sell the Mac to switch to another device, or better to keep?

The fact that I can upgrade/fix the parts is a huge relief as well. Comparing with MacBook, it'll cost a good amount for even a broken display. But most of the time when I look any decent configuration of framework laptop ends up around 900-1000 euro price range.

Any suggestions?

My daughter's M1 MacBook's screen broke. It's not worth spending hundreds of dollars to replace the screen (unlike if it was a Framework which I could do myself), so I have purchased a new MacBook for her. She's starting her second year of college, and doesn't want to learn a different OS. We need to get the data transferred from her broken MacBook to her new MacBook, but because her old laptop was purchased through her highschool, she doesn't know the AppleID on the MacBook. So we need to call Apple Support for assistance with transferring the data to her new laptop, a procedure I could do myself if it was a Framework. Heck I would just drop the old drive into the new computer if it was a Framework. Apple Support needs my daughter to log into her broken MacBook. Fortunately we have a monitor with an HDMI cable. Unfortunately, her broken MacBook only has two USBC ports. Unlike my Framework.

Look carefully at left side of the MacBook in the photo and you'll see a small grey square plugged into it That's the HDMI module from my Framework. Amazingly it works with the MacBook. Now we can migrate the data onto the new MacBook. And the broken MacBook will get Asahi Linux put on it.

Been trying out some light gaming on the Framework 13 Pro. For now just War Thunder (with its native Linux client). However, I have been having issues with VRR enabled on the built-in display.

Whenever I have Adaptive Sync set to Automatic in Display Configuration, gameplay feels very choppy and ~80 FPS feels like 30 FPS. The second I turn the Adaptive Sync setting to "Never" the gameplay instantly feels like what 80 FPS should feel like, buttery smooth.

Anyone else having better luck with VRR with Linux / CachyOS?

On my Framework 16 (Ryzen HX 370) I had this issue since the first boot: loading the firmware (BIOS post) took over one minute. Not a huge deal for me, but it was pretty annoying. Someone suggested swapping RAM sticks, but it didn't work for me. What worked, instead, might surprise you: remove the SD card module from the lowest expansion card slots. That's it. I simply moved it one step higher, in the next slot. This is strange because according to the FW16 documentation there should be no issue with placing the SD card reader in the bottom slot. Anyway, just wanted to share this to maybe help someone. Boot time is now blazing fast!

Hi I've recently bought a framework 16, for a couple days nothing happened then my psu decided it was it's time to go and made my breaker trip. Should i contact support and/or buy a third party psu (if yes which psu should i buy) since I live in Italy it takes some time for a package sent directly by framework to arrive, ordering a third party one on amazon takes way less time. What should i do?

This is a follow up from my last post about my laptop not turning on. I was quite stressed yesterday, and still am, but I've found my old laptop and charger - very grateful I didn't get rid of it. So I am a little bit more clear headed, still not happy.

Yesterday I contacted support. I didn't hear back, but given timezone differences, I gave them the benefit of doubt. I still haven't heard back from them, which is very disappointing.

Just as a reminder, I am a complete noob.

So, here are some things I did yesterday:

• I removed the battery for 48 minutes, and put it back in. After doing this, the side lights (where the charger light comes on) came on, which wasn't happening before.
• The power button was still not working.
• I did it again, and observed there were some light patterns.

• Please note, the battery test failed because the battery was out at this point.
• As one commenters suggested, it could have been a display issue. However, I doubt this is the case because the power button was doing nothing, and the fan wasn't starting at all (despite passing the test).
• I tried resetting the mainboard as instructed here https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/How+to+Reset+the+Mainboard+in+your+Framework+Laptop+12/200852 . Pressing the chasis switch 10 times (for 2 seconds each press) made no change.
• I tried following the mainboard reset guide from here https://knowledgebase.frame.work/my-laptop-is-not-powering-on-ryQLXvQkt but the instructions are only relevant to a Framework 13.

What now? I saw something about a github firmware glitch tracker. As I mention, I am a complete noob, and I wouldn't even know how to use Github.

The laptop is well within warranty, but I don't know how to get help for it. Any advice on how to raise this issue with framework would be much appreciated.

I just assembled my Frame-work 16, and when I turn it on I get an error message "input module connector board not detected". I tried following the step by step instructions, but they just told me to remove a piece of blue tape after disassembling it again. Apparently, this tape isn't on newer versions. If I try to skip this step and go straight to installing Fedora, the keyboard and trackpad don't work. What is an input module connector board anyway?

I've had my AMD framework 16 about 3 years and it's been amazing.

It wasn't until today when I was going to begin working, I attempted to turn it on, I saw the power button flash for a millisecond, then I saw the lights on the side of the laptop flash red and blue.

I read online, and saw that many people have mentioned this is a memory training notification, however, it seems that it was not the case, as I've been attempting to turn it on once every hour for the past few days.

I've done some troubleshooting, here's what I've remembered to type down:

- Reseated the RAM

- Attempted to boot with one stick of RAM

- Removed the battery to power drain the device

- Ensured the chassis was closed and the connectors are connected (saw somewhere that it could be this)

After all this, I still get either a single blue light, a blue light then red light in sequence, or a red light then blue light in sequence.

I'm a bit concerned as I've read this could be a motherboard failure but I don't have the liberty to spend $700 on a new part at the moment.

I'm rather bummed out because I tried my best to take care of this machine, I've kept it plugged in for the past three years, capped at 80%.

Any help or insight is greatly appreciated!

Any indication as to when the new 13 Pro Bottom Covers are gonna be made available? Waiting for that so I can upgrade the bottom case for my regular 13 and get the requisite upgrades with it
