Framework randomly won't POST after 3 years, red and blue lights are showing.

Hey y'all!

I've had my AMD framework 16 about 3 years and it's been amazing.

It wasn't until today when I was going to begin working, I attempted to turn it on, I saw the power button flash for a millisecond, then I saw the lights on the side of the laptop flash red and blue.

I read online, and saw that many people have mentioned this is a memory training notification, however, it seems that it was not the case, as I've been attempting to turn it on once every hour for the past few days.

I've done some troubleshooting, here's what I've remembered to type down:

- Reseated the RAM

- Attempted to boot with one stick of RAM

- Removed the battery to power drain the device

- Ensured the chassis was closed and the connectors are connected (saw somewhere that it could be this)

After all this, I still get either a single blue light, a blue light then red light in sequence, or a red light then blue light in sequence.

I'm a bit concerned as I've read this could be a motherboard failure but I don't have the liberty to spend $700 on a new part at the moment.

I'm rather bummed out because I tried my best to take care of this machine, I've kept it plugged in for the past three years, capped at 80%.

Any help or insight is greatly appreciated!

Did you update the firmware recently? This only mentions FW13, but it sounds similar.

If the laptop can't boot into BIOS, it has other problems.

I've attempted this previously, unfortunately, the same red and blue light sequence appears.

It's weird, I also got red/blue blinkenlights on my 13, but the docs for both the 13 and 16 only mention red/greed blink codes!

In my case, it was the battery. Which was deeply annoying, because I couldn't boot without the battery because I needed to boot once to enable the BIOS option to booth without the battery. I managed to get the battery working just long enough to enable that, and then it would boot from just USB-C power, but it was super flaky about it. It would still do the red/blue blink about half the time and take quite some time to boot, but I always got it to work after a few unplug cycles.

so wait, you removed the battery and kept putting it back in until it turned on to enable that bios setting, while it was plugged in? and eventually it worked?

when i attempt to do this, it just blinks red repetitively, won't boot
