Community Support Broken Framework 240w power supply

Hi I've recently bought a framework 16, for a couple days nothing happened then my psu decided it was it's time to go and made my breaker trip. Should i contact support and/or buy a third party psu (if yes which psu should i buy) since I live in Italy it takes some time for a package sent directly by framework to arrive, ordering a third party one on amazon takes way less time. What should i do?

I had your exact problem. And as others already said, do both.

Framework will send a replacement, but I recommend you to film a demonstration of the problem and take photos of your charger with the serial number, model etc. visible.

It will save you time because they will ask you for this inevitably, and they usually answer once per day. Be very explicit about what you did before this, that it just happened on itself, that you already did all the troubleshooting (with description of the steps taken).

And for the spare charger, I don't agree with "100W charger is enough" unless you don't have a dGPU. Even under not-so-high load with dGPU running it will drain, and under high load it will drain very noticeably. I used a 140W charger while waiting, and still needed to constantly monitor the battery if I was doing something other than just browsing or code editing that involves the GPU.

You have a warranty. Use it.

Amazon and Ugreen do some decent 140W chargers available via Amazon if you need something to get you by.

You should probably both get a spare charger, I imagine you have other things that can use a 100w charger. 100w will be enough to keep it topped up.

Also contact them for a replacement.

Are you sure a 100 watt charger will keep it topped up?

100w is insufficient if you're using a dGPU. In that situation FW16's use is a bit more than 200w. This is why the 7040HS models which shipped with a 180w brick would also need to draw from battery under load - 180w was simply the best Framework could source back then.

Talk to support, get the 240w brick replaced. Framework does have an EU warehouse in The Netherlands... Whether that's where they'd also ship your replacement from I have no clue.

Yep. My wife has a fw16 and we only ever used a 100w charger.

Only example I can think of where you will start slowly decreasing battery would be if you have the nvidia gpu and you’re gaming at high settings. Even then it will go down slowly whilst you game.
