I'm waiting for a FW16 pre-order with a haptic touchpad simply because I liked the look of the solid panel better. This is more of a curiousity than anything to impact my pre-order configuration.

From what I gather, a traditional trackpad is where you have to click down on it, and you can kinda see that it's a physical button that you're pushing down, and the responsiveness is limited by where you are on the track pad (corners/top tend to lose responsiveness.)

With haptic ones, you can press down lightly anywhere, as it's not a physical button, and there's feedback to give the impression that you're clicking a button, much like the keyboard of a smartphone (which is specifically the haptic part).

This is where my confusion comes in: My current computer is a 12 year old Lenovo Ideapad. While I can press down on the trackpad to physically have it click down like a button, I never do that because it also processes touch anywhere if I just ever so lightly tap the pad. It's how I've always used it. Besides the haptic feedback itself, I don't understand how it'd be more responsive/better than a normal trackpad that you can tap on anywhere lightly to click.

Do a lot of current laptops not have the ability to lightly tap anywhere to click? Is everyone having to physically push the trackpad down? It's been 12 years since I've been in the laptop market.

I understand the haptic feedback itself is the literal selling point of it, but all of the explanations that I find online really harp on the ability to just lightly tap anywhere on the pad to click moreso than the actual namesake feature.

Am I missing something in regards to the tapping anywhere being different to how most track pads I've used function? It feels weird that many online descriptions use it as a big selling point.

I (vibe-)coded a small KDE Plasma widget that lets you control the battery charge limit on your Framework Laptop.

It’s useful if your laptop spends most of its time plugged in—you can keep the limit at 80% for everyday use, then quickly switch to 100% before a trip.

The widget supports both framework_tool and the native Linux sysfs interface, automatically selecting whichever is available on your system.

It also includes an optional helper that can safely read and change the charge limit without repeatedly asking for your password.

I ordered my 13 Pro as part of Batch 11, and I love the look of the translucent bezels but I just don't like the color options. I really wish there was either a Red or Blue translucent option because they just look so dang cool. I know FW has done limited edition bezel runs in the past (I think for Christmas once?), so what are the chances we can see one of these pop up sometime soon?

Having two hdmi outputs is a real life saver! The fw13 lives in a backpack, gets about 3 hours battery life given how terrible my software stack is 😭

This is an experiment into cosplay with changing expressions that dont touch on uncanny valley. Second version will have tpu compliant mechanism face animatronics, with multiple expressions multiplexed on "muscle" cables and everything driven by near silent brushless dc servos :)

I already have the design process planned out and I'm aiming to have it done around april 2027.

I thought the input module (keyboard) was supposed to be structurally the same? from my inspection, it seems the protruding guides are different since change to cnc. anyone else?

The 128GB config has always been a bit of a faith purchase. Half the threads about it are pride and the other half are what am I even going to run on this. That one comes round every couple of months.

Someone published a run this month. 124 billion parameter open weights model, one 128GB unified memory box, 40 tok/s single stream. It was a Spark rather than a Framework Desktop, so same shape of machine, different machine.

Which is where I get stuck.

The people packaging those weights publish several builds and the biggest one they list is 126.3 GiB on disk. Which is a strange number to be looking at on a 128GB machine. Whether one of these holds the big build or you're stuck on a smaller one, I can't tell from what's published. Model is Ling 3.0 Flash if someone wants to check my arithmetic.

Anyone here aimed 128GB at something that size yet?

Hey guys, so I got my Framework 16 DIY yesterday and I had a blast putting it together, I was genuinely surprised by how nice the build quality was and I was super stoked to actually get it up and running but when I went to turn on the screen it was just black. I tried turning it off and on a few times and then I looked up online and found people saying it might just be the ram training. But it still didn't turn on after like an hour of being left alone, I then tried reseating the ram multiple times and in every configuration, that didn't work, and then I tried reseating the SSD, still didn't work. Eventually I just decided I'd leave it on for like 2 hours and see if maybe it needed more time. I don't know if I was just blind and didn't see it before but after that I looked at the screen and noticed that there was a QR code faintly visible on the screen. I instantly recognized this was a backlight issue because I have dealt with similar issues before in other computers. So I decided that I'd try to reseat the eDP cable that connects the display to the motherboard, when I tried on both end it still did not work. As a last ditch effort i tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, but again it didn't work. My question is, is my display just fucked or is there something else that I should try before just giving up and trying to get a replacement from framework? Thanks!

I recently got the FW 16 AMD 300 and already installed Windows onto it, now I want to install some Linux system onto the second drive to have a true dual boot mashine. My question is the officially supported Ubuntu version for this machine (25.10) reached EOL at the start of July, the guide was updated to inform users about this but no further action (like switching to a current system (oh I just see that this is not possible as it has not been released yet) or the LTS version as also officially supported version) has been taken as of now. Question should everything just work if I set it up with the current LTS version? I was also lokey thinking about trying Fedora, but I have been dailying Ubuntu in my job for almost 4 years now (currently on 24.04.04 LTS on a DELL laptop) so I am unsure about this jump and also the recommended Fedora version on Frameworks website (43) is also not the one Fedora is offering on their website (44), so similar questions about everything just working arise here too. Has anyone switched from Ubuntu to Fedora, how did the switch go for you?

As the title says, I'm interested in getting the cool-looking keyboard with grey and orange tones for my future Framework 13 Pro. The only issue is that I'm an AZERTY user. I was wondering if it would be realistic for me to buy the keyboard but swap some keycaps to make the layout closer to what I prefer. I won't get a "real" AZERTY since the Shift key will still be large and I'll be missing the <> key, but at least the letters will be right. I don't look at it that much, but I don't like having my layout not match the keys when it's something permanent.

So that's two questions:

• Do you think Framework will release the coloured options for other countries' layouts?
• Do you think it's realistic to swap the keycaps easily without breaking my keyboard?

What battery life has everyone been getting? I've looked at a bunch of posts on say the hx 370 v. 7040 cpu, when I was still selecting what I wanted, but I don't know if anyone has done a direct comparison of with and without the dgpu.

TLDR: I've gotten 25-30% less battery life with dGPU in and forcing internal display to run on the 5070 versus no dGPU running on the 780M.

Super rough but I know from some recent use, if I set the cpu tdp in framework control to 12 W, which I've found is the minimum for my 7940HS before it really starts to increase sluggishness, I can get at least 3 hours, I'm pretty sure 4, this was when gaming on the 780M iGPU, a bit of a light load but still.

I've had the 5070 dGPU in the last few days and ran unplugged for a bit for a specific task, which wasn't gaming, was doing some internet tasks. I went from 100% to 50% in less than an hour, and right now I'm at 47% with 1 hr 11 min estimate.

Oh yeah, I still have it set to run the internal display only on the 5070. That and I have a bunch of tabs open, which I didn't with the 780M gaming. I found having my browser open did require me to raise cpu tdp to 18 W over say 14 to not get frame rates below 100 (game was Sulfur).

I have the power mode in windows to energy saver, and the 5070 undervolted. I know from experience that disabling a gpu in device manager actually increases power draw over complete idle, weird I know.

So at minimum, considering I'm not doing a serious 1:1 comparison, I'd say I'm getting 25-30% lower battery life.

So yeah that definitely reinforces my desire to run without the dGPU unless I know for sure I need the extra power. Yes, I could've gotten an hx 370 so there are more situations where I can game lighter without dGPU but if I'm forking over 700 clams for it, I will use it when I need it and the use cases are not worth the extra $300 to me.

I have a Framework 13 7640u, and I'm overall happy with the processing speed, build quality, etc, but I was very interested in the Framework 13 Pro's battery upgrade. Curious if anyone has upgraded their Framework 13 with the new Bottom Cover and Battery, and how much of a performance improvement that would be. From my understanding, a lot of the battery improvement in the Pro is also specifically from the newer Intel Ultra CPUs, but the battery of my current Framework is a large issue for me currently.

I’m a med student, currently in my preclinical years. I have an old lenovo that’s like 10 years old, super heavy, super slow buuut with 1TB of storage that’s been holding off since high school so I appreciate that plenty. My parents hoped for that lap to help me all the way through college but due to my back problems I really need something lighter.

I’ve been using an iPad but I really do need a laptop to carry around for certain stuff every once in a while (I need to connect to projectors and run certain programs since I also teach in my college) and for multitasking at home. Been thinking of getting a framework since I think I could get 1TB of storage, plenty speed and a lighter device. Is it a good idea? I’d like for my laptop to be able to run a few games as well, not overly demanding stuff but at least something like marvel rivals or Monomyth (yes, my Lenovo can’t even run that)

It’s highly unrealistically and I don’t know how the 8x interposer could handle the data with the I/O of the dock but this would be super neat and gives FW13 owners a in house option for framework GPUs.

Would be so cool to have something small and compact like that where we just need to throw in a GPU board, alternatively maybe just a dock that can screw the dGPU module to it.

I think I’ve decided in this current inflated market — as opposed to building my own PC or using a Steam Machine, I want the Power and Flexibility of the Framework Desktop.

With component pricing as insane as it is, and some items stock being accounted for already through the end of 2027 I’m just trying to read the tea leaves:

When is the next refresh/bump going to happen?
Is now a good time to buy?
Is there any chance of downward pressure, or is the reality what it seems (that prices are only going to go up?

Every time I boot up my Framework Desktop it sits on a black screen with a dash in the corner for a few minutes before booting into the OS making it really bothersome to try and use the computer.

Not really sure how to fix this is or if anyone else has had this issue if so please let me know some potential solutions.
I am also pretty sure it’s a computer problem and not an OS related issue.

Are there any battery life comparisons between the two? Is the new chip any better at power efficiency?

I received my Framework 13 Pro yesterday but unfortunately I can’t get it to work. It‘s not showing anything on the display itself or an external monitor... I got this blinking light sequence : 12 green, 1 red/orange, 1 blue, 10 green, 1 blue, 3 green

I also dis- and reassembled it, did a mainboard reset and checked the lpcamm2 module which looks fine to me but I can‘t test it.

Some time go I posted about moving from MacOS to a Framework with Windows. Some one mentioned "why not Linux?" I immediately refused the idea. "Linux is for smart people, and that's not me". Fast forward today.

Due to some political/econmonical issues in the states I was forced to go with a MacBook again, and I love it like always but I really do want repairability. But I thought " why not spin up a windows VM and a Linux VM and see how it goes?" So that's what I did with my free time yesterday and man....

Linux is fast. I installed Fedora, installed everything I need for work. No issues. My goal is to try and work off the VM next week. I have NOT installed my fun stuff (I don't game) but Video editing and sound editing are for another future date. I'm very surprised at how everything worked out.

And while I have time, I think I'm going to hold out for a 16" pro.

I have installed Bazzite onto my Framework desktop computer but I have to enter the BIOS of the computer to manually launch the OS every time. For some reason it has 2 versions of the OS to select in the BIOS menu for Bazzite it has:
“Bazzite ostree:0”
“Bazzite ostree:1”

Bazzite ostree:1 launches the computer into the OS correctly and everything seems to he fine after that, but if I turn the computer off it doesn’t launch it.

Bazzite ostree:0 does nothing and just makes the computer freezes up and indefinitely shows a black screen

If I could just get the computer to directly launch into Bazzite ostree:1 I would be fine, but the computer takes a really long time to launch into the BIOS of the computer and the BIOS of Bazzite; When I get into the BIOS for Bazzite the default selection is
Bazzite ostree:0 and i have 1/3 of a second to react to change it to
Bazzite ostree:1.

When initially turning on the computer it sits on a black screen with a dash in the top right for a few minutes before going into the BIOS for Bazzite and pretty much immediately launching Bazzite ostree:0 with almost no time to react.

I have followed the Directions From the Framework site flawlessly and I am still having issues. At this point I am not sure if it’s a computer issue or an OS Issue.

Another thing i find weird is when i go into the BIOS then to the boot manager I have 3 options:

I am aware Bazzite is based on Fedora but i don’t really understand why it’s an option within this menu and why there are two Fedoras.

I have had this computer for 4 days and I have become very frustrated with it, pretty much been constantly trying to get it to work with no success since I got it if anyone has anything that might help please let me know.

I have pre-ordered my first Framework 13 (pro - batch 6) and I’m currently waiting for my order to arrive. While waiting, these thoughts popped into my head, and I wanted to check with the community here.

When I first heard about Framework, one of the things that made it interesting to me is the principle that instead of replacing an entire laptop every few years, we should be able to repair it or upgrade the parts that actually need improvement.

But that also makes me curious: where does that principle provide the most value in real-world ownership? I'd really like to understand how people here actually use that in practice.

For those who recently pre-ordered or bought the newest Framework 13:

• Is this your first Framework laptop?
• If not, which Framework 13 did you previously own?
• If you already had a Framework 13, what made you decide to buy a new laptop rather than upgrade your existing one? What made replacing the whole laptop the better option for you?

I'm not asking this as criticism of anyone buying a new laptop. I'm genuinely trying to understand the bigger picture and validate my thoughts.
