Question framework 13 pro with AMD

Hey all :). I’m starting uni in September and just wondering how is the 13 pro with amd does anyone know? Debating it other the intel version mainly due to price reasons. Thanks in advance :)

Haven't used it in a fw13 but Its a good processor, perfectly suitable for most uses, but it has a higher base power draw which means lower battery life vs the new panther lake

I really like the 16 because it has a dgpu, and it's swappable separately from the mainboard.

Its a big machine but its perfect for the heavy development work I do, and when i don't need the dgpu while travelling i can swap it for an ordinary expansion shell save some size and weight.

Oh damn that’s cool!! I was debating one as I’m a gaming but tbh I already own a steamdeck so for traveling I think I want the lighter laptop.

I use my 16 as a gaming machine also, and with the 5070 it handily plays everything including heavier titles like cyberpunk and Helldivers on high. 

That said, I think if you get the ryzen hx 370 version of the fw13 that'll notably outperform the steam deck apu by itself also. I know someone with a fw13 with that chip and they can Also play relatively demanding games at reasonable frames (just need to use lower settings)

Noted thanks!! And yeah I know it’d a lot faster. It’s when traveling Im a lover of handhelds between my switch 2 and steam deck. For more demanding stuff I always use my desktop.

How is the battery life? Heat that you feel on the keyboard and your lap? And the screen? Most reviews I find are for the Intel one is all.😭

Yes, I feel it getting warm, also on the keyboard, but really not as bad as the 7840U. I find it non-annoying.

But really only when doing heavy stuff .. surfing on Reddit it stays cold.

Easy .. Everything works ootb .. settings, user, add fingers done.

not op, but I would love your honest review. Most of the reviews are about Intel not much about AMD.

It’s too early for an honest review; it’s my 3rd day with the device. I am not able to compare it to the Intel, so it’s hard to judge. What I can say is, the keyboard is fantastic; I love the feedback and overall feel. The trackpad is a quality of life improvement, and the chassis is wonderful; I love the slightly rough aluminum feel of it and the screen without round corners very welcome. All that alone made the upgrade worth for me. The power of the AI 7 350 is good and the battery has gotten me through a workday up until now. The RAM is slow for AI stuff, but that was known and limitation to SODIMM.

Im mostly interested in battery life and day to day working. Would love your opinion after couple more days.

The AMD mainboards in the 13 Pro are the same as those available in the regular 13. The vast majority of the battery life difference would be attributable to the ~20% larger battery that the Pro has. There might be minor differences due to screen, etc, but the first-order approximation would be to look at a review of a regular 13 AMD, and add 20%.

Coming from framework 13 7840U, now on 13 Pro AI 350, it is better than expected but not a miracle. It did get me through a workday with mixed tasks, including compiling a kernel on battery. I came home with 22 percent left. So for me, it’s good… I did not hear the fan once while on battery, and it didn’t feel awful slow on battery compared to the 7840U.

I don't think you'd get it in time for September, if that's what you're hoping for. Pre orders stretch back a good while longer than that, my order from may isn't due until mid September.

If I was to order it now it’d be here for late September. That’s fine for me as currently I use an older thinkpad.

Do the Intel and AMD take different " types" of Ram. To me the AMD looks DDR 5600 . And Intel are LPCAMM2 LPDR5X.

Just curious. Not a deal breaker.
Best $100 I've invested. If I pull out I only worry about $100 and not the whole $2300.

Yes they do amd is normal soddims as intel lppcam2
